00:12:16Just from a centre-half point of view, how difficult are long throws to defend?

00:12:20It is weirdly difficult.

00:12:21I think I put it down to, you know, the day before a game, you always practice attacking corners,

00:12:27free kicks, defending corners, free kicks.

00:12:29Not often do you practice defending a long throw.

00:12:31So it seems simple as a goalkeeper, as a defender, just go and head it.

00:12:35But I think because it's coming in from a different angle, it creates a lot of chaos, as we're seeing here.

00:12:39And it's something that probably teams should be working on a little bit more, especially if you're playing against Brentford.

00:12:44Well, do you feel more panic as a goalkeeper from a long throw than a corner?

00:12:48Well, he used to have nightmares.

00:12:49He'd already had a lap at Stoke, that's for sure.

00:12:51Yeah, yeah.

00:12:52No, because that was a real rocket.

00:12:53And Robert Hoof and Ryan, you know, Shawcross would come up and pile over the keeper and get in.

00:12:58But again, they were sometimes scored direct from that first, which I talked about and sort of contradicting myself.

00:13:06It's lots of times the second connection and the guys around the back, you know, people switching off, watching the ball.

00:13:56He started to get in between the lines of the midfield and the defensive line.

00:37:40And if we're all at the front post and they're loaded at the back, why don't you make an adjustment?

00:37:45Tottenham's strength in depth, particularly in the forward areas, has all of a sudden become quite frightening.

00:37:51I mean, often managers talk about wanting to have two players per position. Spurs, you could argue, have three.

00:37:58Yeah, really strong squad, especially in those attacking areas, as you said.

00:38:01I think they've got a serious argument to say they're going to be in the top four.

00:38:23So they're looking strong. I think if you're a Tottenham fan, you've got to be a little bit excited.

00:38:37It's a mess. And I think the problem for Potter is he finished last season very poorly as well.

00:57:11I think the game went some moments for us, some moments for them and it was not clear what was going to happen at the end and to win this kind of games is always very good.

00:57:25If you lose, of course, you can't say that we did enough.

00:57:29But I think we had chances, we controlled the game, we had the momentum and like I said, small margins made a difference today and the small margins weren't on our side.

00:57:38We didn't make them right, so we can't say that we did enough.

00:57:43It was pretty ugly. The manager did say at half time that just gets stuck into them.

00:57:47It's going to be ugly, but make sure when we get our chances we finish.

00:57:50So we've done that today and three points.

00:57:51For me, watching back on the replay, it looked as though Semenyo, it was a needless shove on De Kaipa as he went into the advertising hoardings.

00:58:33Anton Semenyo, who normally plays on the left, was on the right today, and he was a real focal point for them.

00:58:40Now they're missing out the press, but what they're also doing is getting bodies around for if they do win the first ball or they don't win the first ball, they can pick up the second ball.

00:58:49So every time the ball goes long and wide and high, they get bodies around it. Here we're going to show you how they outnumber Brighton.

00:58:59In that little space there, it's a four against three, so it's likely that they're going to pick up the ball in the second ball, and actually they're just playing for territory.

01:25:01I think it's normal here at home and we showed a good character, good resilience to defend together.

01:25:07And your goalkeeper in particular Robin Roofs has had a very good game.

01:25:11Yeah, he's a really good goalkeeper.

01:25:14We need good players in the squad to be efficient and competitive in that league and it was the case today.

01:25:20I'm really happy with the performance I put on today and I'm also really happy that we could take one point.

01:25:27And I heard the Sunderland fans at the end getting their chance out that the Roofs is on fire.

01:25:32Does that translate for you? Are you aware what road they're walking down there?

01:25:36Well, it's always really nice when they chant your name or when they're happy with you.

01:25:58It's these type of performances they need. You can see them all springing out, getting up to the ball,

01:26:03doing the dirty work, the work that normally doesn't get highlighted.

01:26:07We showed ten players back in the box there defending the goal at all costs,

01:26:12getting themselves behind the ball. Here we see the shape of 4-3-3, but very deep.

01:26:18Their priority is to not concede. They work within that shape.

01:26:22They get pressure on the ball all the time, even when the cross does come in.

01:26:29I like this one because look at the desire and the work rate to stop the break, the Crystal Palace break.

01:26:34Now you've got Xhaka, who I think is a really clever sign and he's going to be a big player for them

01:27:35I think that's important because you've seen promoted sides in the past come up.

01:27:40Labrice has given them a real platform, really defensive, away from home as well.
