00:00Take hold!
00:23Heaviness may endure for a night, but joy comes in the morning.
00:29God has been our refuge and our strength, a present help in time of trouble.
00:37Dear friends, we have come together on this day to commemorate the anniversary of the end of the Second World War.
00:47We celebrate the return to peace after years of war and are thankful for all the blessings that flow from peace.
00:58We come together conscious of our need for God's forgiveness for the sin that leads to conflict between people and war between nations.
01:40Glad of each other's company and grateful for the laughter and love that follows times of sadness and loss.
01:50It shall come to pass in the latter days that the mountain of the house of the Lord shall be established
02:01as the highest of the mountains and it shall be lifted up above the hills and peoples shall flow to it
02:10and many nations shall come and say, come let us go up to the mountain of the Lord, to the house of the God of Jacob that he may teach us his ways
02:23and that we may walk in his paths.
02:24For out of Zion shall go forth the law and the word of the Lord from Jerusalem.
02:34He shall judge between many peoples and shall decide for strong nations far away and they shall beat their swords into plowshares and their spears into pruning hooks.
02:54Nations shall not lift up sword against nation, neither shall they learn war any more, but they shall set every man under his vine and under his fig tree.
03:10And no one shall make them afraid, for the mouth of the Lord of hosts has spoken.
03:23Let us pray.
03:32God of the nations, our refuge and our dwelling place,
03:38we remember thanksgiving those whose service achieved allied victory in the Pacific
03:47and remember before you all those who suffered from the devastation and trauma of war.
03:57May their memory inspire us to learn from the atrocities of the past
04:04and to pursue peace, justice and reconciliation in our own generation through Christ our Lord.
04:17God of truth and justice, we give thanks for those men and women who have died in active service,
04:25particularly in the Second World War,
04:28as we honour their courage and cherish their memory.
04:32May we put our faith in your future,
04:37for you are the source of life and hope,
04:42now and forever.

05:07keep them safe from all evil,
05:11endure them with courage and loyalty
05:14and grant that in all things they may serve you
05:18without reproach through Christ our Lord.
05:21O God who would fold both heaven and earth in a single piece,
05:29that the design of your great love
05:32lighten upon the waste of our wraths and sorrows
05:37and give peace to your church,
05:41peace among nations,
05:44peace in our dwellings

05:49through Jesus Christ our Lord.
