Although there have only been five named storms in the Atlantic so far, the peak of hurricane season is still ahead. AccuWeather meteorologists are closely monitoring conditions for potential tropical storm development in the coming weeks.

00:00Andrea, Barry, Chantal, Dexter, now Aaron.
00:03That's the list so far.
00:05Of course, we still have more names to go,
00:06and we're not even ultimately halfway through the season,
00:09not by the curve standards.
00:11If you take a look at it, we're right about here.
00:14So you can see we're on the uphill slide as far as named storms.
00:17We're also on the uphill slide, too, as far as hurricanes.
00:20And it's a pretty quick rise through the latter half of August
00:23to the peak of hurricane season.
00:25September 10th is what we classify as the peak of hurricane season.
00:29So here we go.
00:30We look out into the Atlantic beyond Aaron,
00:32and we are tracking two tropical waves.
00:34One has just pushed off the coast of Africa,
00:37still low risk here for development.
00:39The other one is still over Africa.
00:41So we do have that low threat as well.
00:43So we're tracking those two tropical waves,
00:45plus something a little closer to home.
00:47Look at that.
00:47They're in the Gulf.
00:48You'll find a lot of rainfall just offshore of Texas.
00:53No real circulation to this,
00:54but this is going to march its way inland here.
00:57So we will have a little bit of wet weather to come
00:59with this through southern Texas today.
01:01By tonight, it just becomes a few sprinkles,
01:03maybe some drizzle tomorrow morning and some extra clouds.
01:07Taking a look elsewhere, though, again, in the Atlantic,
01:09those two tropical waves are out here,
01:11and they follow kind of a similar path to Aaron,
01:13which is much further to the west.
01:16What happens, though, is we do have some shear,
01:19but not a lot as these tropical waves move through.
01:22So does that mean they're going to take off?
01:23Well, the other thing that we've found is Aaron actually has kicked up
01:27some more dry air into the backside,
01:28and we might even see some more of that filter in from the north.
01:31So hopefully, as that tropical wave there pushes off of Africa,
01:34there'll be enough dry air to impede any significant development
01:38in the upcoming days.
01:40And luckily, if we're lucky, that would hold for the falling tropical wave
01:44that is still over the continent of Africa at this time.
