URBAN EXPLORER FINDS ABANDONED BUS GRAVEYARD
WITH PIX AND VID
By Shuk Yee Tsang
This urban explorer told how she explored a bus graveyard, uncovering rows of retro vehicles.
Urban explorer, Tokyo Matilda, 22, from Sheffield, UK, captured this eerie site in Somerset, UK, uncovering rows of vintage London buses, derelict Stagecoach coaches, slowly being reclaimed by nature.
Among the relics, an old petrol station once famous for its 99p fuel and also a coach garage adds a haunting touch to the collection.
Tokyo has been uncovering hidden places like this since the age of 14 and as a full-time Urban explorer, she documents her discoveries online.
Over her years of urban exploring, she estimates she’s come across at least 10,000 abandoned vehicles in various graveyards, from cars and buses, with an estimated total value of over a million pounds.
Tokyo always takes precautions exploring with a partner, letting others know her location, and carrying essentials like a torch, first aid kit, and fully charged phone.
Her passion for vehicle explorations comes from her family her dad, grandad, and brother all love cars.
Tokyo said: “It was crazy how long they’d been left therethat’s what surprised me the most.
"How they could just be dumped and abandoned with no one interested in them.
“The thrill of finding a vintage London buses.
“Some people think trespassing shouldn’t be allowed, but others see that I’m showcasing abandoned places that would otherwise never be seen.
“For me, it’s about preserving a piece of history before it’s gone for good.”

00:00This explore surprised us like no other. Welcome to the famous 99p petrol station
00:06where we found hidden vintage cars. Not only was this a petrol station back in the day
00:11but a garage specialising in coaches. Once a booming business but as time went on the owner
00:18struggled with a hoarding problem which left him bankrupt. These have been left ever since.
00:24As you can see how long they've been here for quite some time which is really really cool to see
00:32but sadly a lot of them are here because they've suffered some kind of
00:38I'm trying to think of the word catastrophe. Oh my god I hope you know that little five
00:43second that I was thinking about how to say it. Wow these are the old toilets. This place definitely
00:50need to revisit. This has been one that stayed in my heart a little bit. Again this is a school bus.
00:55Look at the moss. You can see how overgrown these places are. I believe this is an office.
01:05No way! How did you get inside? Let's go in. Oh look at the postcards. Oh my god.
01:14You can see what I mean with the old type buses. I love the cover of them seats. The seats
01:20should have been half peak periods. This has been abandoned for quite some time. As you can tell.
01:26Which is a shame I need to watch that as I step round. I think that has been stripped for some parts
01:32but you can see the amount of algae and white moulds. Let me just try and avoid breathing that mould in. Oh my god.
01:43Look at nature reclaiming them. So there is some as you can see on the drone footage
01:47which is all the way back there but I don't think I'm actually going to be able to reach them
01:53because they're too much in the wilderness. Look it just goes on and on and on. I don't know how many
01:59of these you can actually get on. No you can't get on there. Let's go down here. See what's further down here.
02:06I don't know where the boys have gone. Oh my god. I'm going to struggle to get through there.
02:13This is what I mean. It's just trees and trees of coaches. It is one that's been around I think for
02:23quite a while and it's so cool I think to see and actually checking back on the video and people
02:29checking the number plates and stuff and you can see how long they've actually been left.
02:36Wow. Why would someone do that? You can see though how long and how quick the decay has taken
02:45a hold. It's destroyed everything. It really has. Oh there's just loads. I couldn't, I can't remember
02:55there being this many. Oh that one's been, I think that one's got something inside. The problem is
03:02I know some of these aren't, oh god. So I mean, but this one, look at the windows, all gone
03:09and nature is just coming through here. It's just, I don't, I thought that was a gas canister there.
03:18Some of them where you can see where they were just used for storage, which is a shame. Like I was
03:23saying to them, imagine having that much money to use coaches for storage. But some of them were also
03:30burnt out and given to the keeper and he was meant to be renovating these, getting them back in the road
03:36or strapping them and using for parts, which he did do for quite some time. But sadly, um, that's, that was solid.
03:45Jesus. Um, but sadly, uh, he wasn't able to do it after so many years of doing it. Wow. What's a Porsche?
03:54Porsche 912 car. I, um, a bit ago did a, um, detail on a Porsche 911. So are they just going,
04:02is it going up each one or is there just no correlation? Is it? Um, I don't know what this
04:09one is to be honest with you. It looks like a taxi. It's an Austin. An Austin Martin or just an Austin?
04:15It's definitely an Austin. An Austin, sorry. It's an Austin.
04:19CB9 new model coming out this year. Look at it. You can't get, oh you can get the bike.
04:25Hit the vinyl. Blackout TV. That's crazy. Look at that. Look at that.
04:34Is it one of them windy windows? Oh yeah, windows now. Oh my god. That's just so you can like prop it.
04:41Isn't that, oh no. Oh god, I nearly dropped the light. Yeah, because that's how you open the door, isn't it?
04:46I remember in my dad's Mondeo, back in the day, we used to have to wind them down. I don't think people
04:51understand the absolute pain that used to be to wind a window down. Yeah, just a little bit.
05:00Air conditioning, was that a thing with some of these cars? It's a good old-fashioned, as my dad says,
05:05just put window down. Which is right though, isn't it? Wow. Oh yeah, and Austin, I can see it on here.
05:12On the engine and compartments. Wow, the Porsche is so much bigger compared to the, that one.
05:21This is a good one.
05:23Okay.
05:24I'll be right back.
05:26Oh yeah, good fight.
05:27Oh yeah.
05:27I feel like this here's a good one.
05:30Okay, guys, we're going to find out.
05:32That's okay.
05:32All right.
05:33Go, go.
05:34Bye, go.
05:35All right.
05:36Our time is that we're all right here.
05:37Yeah, I know.
05:38We're going to be in some place where we're going.
05:40How are you.
05:40I know that you're going to be there.
05:41Yeah, I've got to go.
05:43You know, I know.
05:44I know you're going to be on the main stage right now.
05:45So what I'm going to be in here, that's good.
05:47We'll be in here to do it.
05:49Yeah.
