00:01Eleven weeks ago...
00:03I need to see who's got a good business brand.
00:07Lord Sugar began his search for a brand new business partner.
00:12I feel so angry that not one of you geniuses ran this thing properly.
00:16Eighteen hopefuls...
00:18I'm not getting angry, I'm just telling you my point because you're not listening to my point.
00:21Please stop talking, please, for the love of God.
00:23Eleven testing tasks...
00:25We're meant to be grown up women, we're talking like little schoolgirls.
00:28So that's not cool, that's not cool.
00:30Now for one candidate.
00:32Your best hope for 250 grand is to buy yourself a scratch card.
00:36A quarter of a million pound investment.
00:39You're fired, you're fired.
00:41You are a loose cannon, you're fired.
00:49Previously on The Apprentice...
00:51You are going to present to my trusted advisers.
00:55Business plans...
00:57I have a lot more outgoons than ingoons.
00:59I was a little bit spendy happy on that.
01:01You can't be running a business and be spendy happy.
01:04And candidates...
01:05When I've asked you just the simplest question, you don't know.
01:09...got picked apart.
01:11I've wanted to smack you over the face to wake you up.
01:13Where's the passion? Come on.
01:15This is actually worse than childbirth.
01:16In the boardroom...
01:17I'm only interested in a big business.
01:20Grania's make-up school...
01:22Oh, you're not even qualified yet.
01:23No.
01:24...didn't make the grade.
01:26I just can't see this.
01:27You're fired.
01:28Jessica's clothing company was out of fashion...
01:31It's a very, very risky idea.
01:33You're fired.
01:34...and Francis...
01:35All your invoices and bills going to your handbag.
01:38...ran out of chances.
01:39You're fired.
01:40I knew it was two.
01:42Now it's Alana versus Courtney.
01:45You're the one person standing in my way of £250,000.
01:48This investment is mine.
01:50One will become Lord Sugar's business partner.
01:536am.
02:05Good morning.
02:08Lord Sugar will meet you at City Hall.
02:10The cars will be leaving in 20 minutes.
02:12Cheers, thank you.
02:14For the finalists...
02:16We're going to City Hall.
02:18It's head to head.
02:20Quick slash and dash.
02:22I'm slightly apprehensive going into the pitch.
02:24It's something I do get nervous doing.
02:26However, I want Lord Sugar to be my business partner...
02:29...because I believe he can help take me to that next level.
02:31Throughout the process, I've struggled...
02:34...because people have put me down.
02:36This is all about me and I know my stuff...
02:39...so I think it will be all right.
02:52Thank you, Mary.
02:53Good morning.
02:54Good morning.
02:55Good morning, Lord Sugar.
02:58Good morning.
02:59Good morning.
03:00Good morning, Lord Sugar.
03:01political powerhouse, and location for Lord Sugar's final showdown.
03:18Good morning. Good morning, Lord Sugar.
03:21Welcome to City Hall.
03:24As you are aware, a lot of big decisions are made in this hall.
03:27I've got to make a very big decision.
03:29I've got to decide which one of you is going to win my £250,000 investment.
03:36This is your last opportunity to convince me it should be you.
03:41So for your final task, I want you to launch your businesses.
03:45You need to brand your company, and then in a few days' time,
03:48you're going to be coming back in here,
03:50and you're going to be pitching to me and 200 industry experts.
03:54Now, I've got a lot to do, so I've arranged a few people to come and help you.
04:08So, ladies first, why don't you choose one of these ex-candidates?
04:13I'd like Gráinne, please.
04:18Jessica, please.
04:21Frances, please.
04:24Karthik.
04:25I'd like Rebecca, please.
04:28Sofiane.
04:34And Oliver, please.
04:35Paul, I was going to choose you anyway, mate.
04:42Dream team.
04:45Now, Alana, you already run a small bakery company.
04:49Well, I will need convincing that your new business can grow into a giant brand.
04:55And, Courtney, you're going to need to convince me
04:57that you can design and sell novelty stuff in very big volume
05:02if you want me to invest £250,000.
05:06So, I'll see you in a few days' time.
05:09Good luck, and off you go.
05:13Good luck, Alana.
05:16Two days to prove plans can become profitable partnerships.
05:20I'm so glad you guys are back.
05:26I'm so glad you chose us.
05:27Yeah.
05:29I'm aware that I've chosen very big personalities and characters as well.
05:33So, I think that could play into my advantage
05:35if I can show Lord Sugar that I can lead.
05:38I'm just wondering how many people saw their friends
05:41and just started picking their friends.
05:43We know that Courtney and Jessica were quite close
05:45and that was his first decision.
05:46Is that a business decision or is that a personal decision?
05:48First, for both finalists, put their plans to the troops.
05:54For those of you who don't know, it's a cake manufacturing business.
05:58Where is it produced, Alana?
05:59It's in West Wales, so it's like a very country kitchen.
06:02Can we taste some?
06:03Help yourself, guys.
06:04What would you recommend?
06:05Oh, my gosh.
06:07Alana, the quality is...
06:08No, amazing, Alana.
06:09Wow.
06:09I feel like there's a lot to do, but I've managed to get everyone I wanted.
06:13I've got branding, I've got food, I've got organisation, and I've got Grosje.
06:22Briefing his team...
06:23So, these are my own products.
06:24Yours.
06:25Oh, this is so cool.
06:26...novelty gift designer, Courtney.
06:28The ice cream scoop was my first product.
06:31This is the idea that you could, yeah, melt hearts with ice cream on Valentine's Day.
06:37So, Lord Sugar's set me the task to show him I can sell huge volumes of each product.
06:42Do you want to set up your own online store?
06:45That's definitely an area that we want to push.
06:48Lord Sugar will want to be looking to make money fast and quickly.
06:53Next, a big company.
06:54The brand name needs to be fun, cheeky.
06:58Needs a bold new name.
07:00I can give you some ideas that I've just had Bingo Bongo or Ringo Dingo.
07:06I mean, are these items all pocket-sized?
07:09Small...
07:09Yeah, the small bag.
07:10Pocket pleasers or...
07:11Pocket pleasures.
07:13I'm not feeling it.
07:14I'm like, I'm trying to listen to what's being said, and I'm like, I just don't like anything that's being said.
07:19I'm going to drop some of the names, and then we can try and brainstorming.
07:22I just had the idea of Bonkers Conkers.
07:25No.
07:25I don't want to sound like the fun police, but maybe I need to be a little bit.
07:30Genuinely, I think Courtney really needs to up his game now.
07:34Bingo Bongo, Billy Bingo, whatever.
07:36They're rubbish.
07:37They're complete rubbish, and he really needs...
07:39I want him to really grab a hold of it and win.
07:41I do.
07:42I do.
07:42Do you honestly believe that there's a global brand sitting on that wall?
07:46Because I don't.
07:46Aiming for a distinctive brand name.
07:52Gooey's a really nice word.
07:54It gets across the feeling you're getting when you're eating those cakes.
07:57Alana's team.
07:58Looking at that, it's quite rich, isn't it?
07:59It's ridiculously rich, yeah.
08:01Ridiculously rich.
08:02I'm not quite out of the way you said that.
08:03Ridiculously rich.
08:05Ridiculously rich.
08:05When you said it, it sounded really cute.
08:08Why would you want your brand to be Ridiculously?
08:10What about Oh My Bake?
08:13Oh, I like that.
08:14You know your USPs?
08:15That you are quality and luxury.
08:19Ridiculously rich has that in it.
08:22Next, assign roles.
08:25There's the logo.
08:26Obviously, Rebecca's going to be coming along to that.
08:28Absolutely.
08:29As regards to a sub team, I'd want to put Jessica in charge of that.
08:34And then Paul and Sofiane will be with you.
08:37Okay, brilliant.
08:37So you're happy to get on with that and then call me once you've got some more information.
08:41Courtney's put Jessica as sub team leader in charge of Paul and Sofiane.
08:44Well, the last time I saw them work together, it was a disaster.
08:47Neither would listen to the other and ended up in a huge row.
08:50Let's hope for Courtney's sake, they don't play those games.
08:5411am.
08:56Good luck.
08:57See you later.
08:57Half the team head off to create a digital sign.
09:01We need to get this really, really eye-catching and different.
09:06I think, you know, between me and you, we can be eye-catching.
09:10Soho.
09:14For Courtney's team, a novel approach.
09:18This 10-second video needs to be really, really fun, so...
09:21Yeah.
09:21You've got costumes.
09:22Banana costume, burger costume, there's sausage costume.
09:25I think if we get dressed, being fancy dressed, it's going to be a job.
09:27I think it's going to novelty.
09:28Yeah, I do.
09:28I think we should have us messing about with a lot of different things.
09:30Yeah.
09:31Give us the footage to edit.
09:32Yeah, I agree.
09:32So, how's our messing around going?
09:34Right, so this is just random and stuff.
09:35Just random, I don't want it to be constructed, because then it looks wrong.
09:38I don't like the idea of fancy dress.
09:40I understand what you're saying, but we're not going for it.
09:41We've got limited time.
09:42Let's just get on with it.
09:43Obviously, Paul and Sofiane, very big personalities.
09:47They both like to bicker.
09:48I've got vision.
09:49I'm visualising this as a video.
09:50Yeah, I mean, you've been asked to do something.
09:52You're not even doing that.
09:53My strategy is to manage Paul and Sofiane.
09:56I'm going to try to rein it in, and we're going to...
09:59Here you go.
10:00Right, Sofiane, look, you're distracting.
10:01It's going off course.
10:02I think I'm doing a good job of it.
10:03I'm managing two idiots now.
10:05Of course I am.
10:07OK, so cut.
10:08I think we'll make quite a vibrant, colourful video.
10:10You know the Alana, me and you know?
10:17Yeah.
10:17How do you think she's going to get on with Rebecca?
10:20Sometimes Rebecca's very good at going off track.
10:23I'm thinking something's great when it's not.
10:25Yeah.
10:27Back at base...
10:28The way you go, they're ridiculously rich, they're tasty, they're gooey.
10:32When you said it, I went, oh.
10:34Alana's team cook up her cake brand.
10:37You were describing your cake.
10:38And those are the kind of words that really engage people.
10:42Ridiculously rich is quite good.
10:43I'm going to go with ridiculously rich.
10:45The problem about the name they've chosen, ridiculously rich,
10:48is it has no unique selling point.
10:50What Lord Sugar is looking for is something that really stands out,
10:54is going to make really big sales.
10:56And at the moment, I can't see how Lord Sugar's going to be able to invest in her.
10:59Can we put the cake stand underneath the writing?
11:02I think that looks really nice.
11:06Mid-afternoon.
11:08What time do you have to go home?
11:13Still with no name for his novelty business, Courtney.
11:18You know, I like the idea of light bulb.
11:20I don't think light bulb sounds a bit obvious.
11:22Maybe bright bulb or bright bulb moments.
11:26Bright bulb moments.
11:29Courtney hasn't been particularly decisive.
11:31He's very focused on the name.
11:32He's not actually thinking about the overall task and what needs to be done.
11:36Cheeky moments?
11:37Instead of saying the word cheeky, I'd rather use a character that is regarded as cheeky,
11:41like a monkey or a llama.
11:44He needs to prove that he can design great products and he can sell them in huge volumes.
11:49All God help him at the presentation.
11:51What's your favourite animal?
11:53Whale.
11:53And what's your favourite colour?
11:54Purple.
11:55There we go.
11:56Well, you decide, right?
11:57Yeah.
11:58Purple whale.
12:00In a short space of time, I don't know if you're able to draw like a little whale.
12:05It shouldn't be too ambitious.
12:07Something like that?
12:08You know what?
12:09I just have to go with it.
12:11It's what it is.
12:12Can you sell it?
12:13You're a bitch.
12:13I'm going to need to sell it.
12:15OK.
12:16Next into the studio...
12:18Hello.
12:19How are you?
12:19How are you?
12:19How are you doing?
12:20Very well.
12:21Ridiculously rich.
12:23The main products are these.
12:25Alana doesn't make cupcakes, so she's dressed as a cupcake.
12:28Chef Grania comes in and doesn't approve.
12:29I'm going to throw this over her.
12:32Do I scream luxury?
12:34Definitely not.
12:35I know it's luxury, but we're trying to put a little bit of fun element into this.
12:39Mmm.
12:39No time for cupcakes.
12:40Come try our ridiculously rich cakes.
12:44Mmm.
12:496.30pm.
12:51Hiya.
12:51Hi there.
12:52To help pitch Purple Whale, Courtney seeks out coaching.
12:57I'd say I'm a confident person.
12:59However, when put in the limelight, I get a bit nervous.
13:03So what we're going to do is just try and get you to let go a little bit.
13:08I've seen Courtney pitch, and it's not a pretty sight, because he's incredibly nervous, and he has no presence.
13:14He really needs this coaching, because he really needs the pitch to go well.
13:18We're going to do one thing now, which might be a bit weird.
13:25Energetically, how does this change you?
13:27I feel more open.
13:28I feel that I can see more.
13:30So just explore a little humming sound.
13:36The worst thing for me to have in that pitch is to get nervous and start hesitating.
13:41Just warn you, I'm going to put my hands around your waist.
13:43Off you go.
13:44Hopefully I can come across a lot better to the audience, the business advisors, and Lord Sugar.
13:49Hello, ladies and gentlemen.
13:51My name is Courtney Wood, and now sell my product range into 17 different countries through a network of five distributors.
13:57OK, excellent. Go back to that point again.
14:02Who wouldn't want to stop to see what's going on? I'm throwing flour in your face, for God's sake.
14:07Finishing off their digital sign...
14:09I like it.
14:10...Grania and Frances.
14:11You've got the logo, so can we have a look?
14:17That is not Alana.
14:19Oh, I don't know who's come up with this.
14:20It's like the Women's Institute or something.
14:22Ridiculously shite.
14:23Well, if they wanted to get ridiculously into it, they've definitely done that.
14:26Yeah.
14:27But this, to me, is Rebecca's influence. This is not Alana's personality, to me.
14:30She is going to have to change this.
14:33Phone her.
14:33Hi, Alana.
14:38Hi, you all right?
14:40So, we've just seen your logo.
14:42What do you think, Alana? What do you think? What do you think?
14:45What do you mean, what do I think? It was my decision.
14:48OK, we just...
14:50I just, I just, I hope, I hope it does work out. I just, I just had me doubts about it, to be honest.
14:55What are you feeling that you are going to achieve by digging something out that we've already created?
15:00What are you, what are you hoping to achieve?
15:02This is why, in the past, things have failed, because people do not get behind something.
15:06Guys, we've got to be behind Alana on this. This is her, you know, bread and butter of a business.
15:10We just wanted to tell you, OK, you've gone with your brand. Fair enough. OK.
15:15What have you guys been up to?
15:17We have come up with a concept on the interactive board.
15:20There is Francis standing in a cupcake outfit, first of all, right?
15:24Did you say something about cupcakes?
15:27No, we're trying to, we're saying we don't have time for cupcakes.
15:29We don't have time for cupcakes?
15:31And then we're introducing your ridiculously rich...
15:33Homemade luxury cakes.
15:35So there's no one in a cupcake outfit?
15:37Fran is in a cupcake outfit, but then she's put out of shot.
15:39We have to go. Bye, bye, bye, bye, bye.
15:42She didn't take that well, did she?
15:44No. No, she didn't take that well at all.
15:49She's going to hate this, you know, I have a feeling.
15:51I know.
15:5410pm.
15:55That's the logo.
15:56Oh, I love the logo. I think they've done a good job, haven't they?
15:59Just 15 minutes before work must stop.
16:02What was the strap line?
16:03Want a little gift. Make a big impression.
16:06Small, like a small text. Yeah, let's go for that.
16:08Yeah.
16:09I look at that and I'm bored.
16:11Right, you're really missing the point, Safia.
16:12No, I think you're missing the point, trust me.
16:14I'm not, but trust me.
16:15We're going to place this in a shop in a popular area, aren't we?
16:18This is getting really, really childish now.
16:21I think we're overcomplicating.
16:22I agree with Paul.
16:23Is this campaign going to wow some people that really know what business is all about?
16:28Oh, God, it just looks really bare.
16:30It is where it is, isn't it?
16:32God, I'm mortified.
16:34I actually don't think we've helped him.
16:36I'm just pissed off.
16:38Bottom line, I'm pissed off.
16:399am.
16:49Good morning, guys.
16:50How did yesterday go?
16:53Yeah, it went all right, didn't it?
16:56Yeah, it was good.
16:57Stressful?
16:58Yeah, it was kind of like agree and disagree.
17:02You know, we came out of something at the end.
17:05Do you want to show me it?
17:07Let's have a look.
17:09And that's the back.
17:18You've just made it clear, clean, simple, and I'm really pleased that you guys have done that.
17:23Oh, I'm glad you like that.
17:25Right, really want to see what you've made.
17:28No time for cupcakes.
17:30Come try our ridiculously rich cakes.
17:35You goons.
17:36Oh, I like it.
17:38Well done.
17:38I'd just like to say, if I came across like, I wasn't keen yesterday, I'm very sorry, it's really good.
17:46But when you're describing someone dressed in a cupcake suit with a flower being chucked in their face, your mind wanders a little.
17:53Today, both teams must create TV ads.
17:57Right, so the advert is, it's a lady coming into a cafe, every day she's buying one of my cakes, but what we need to put across is cakes that people come back for time and time again.
18:08The TV advert needs to be fun.
18:09The TV advert needs to be fun.
18:11It's all about keeping it cheeky.
18:13Are you guys happy working together on the advert again?
18:17I'd like to swap if I could.
18:18I can.
18:19I'm cool with that.
18:20Sofiane, I know you're good at directing, so that's what I want you to focus on.
18:25However, Jessica will be in charge and she has the final sound in it.
18:30It's happening again, he wants Jessica to lead the whole advert, so I'm going to make it very clear that today is my day, let me give you my best ideas and we need to use them and it's for courting his best interest.
18:47So I'm excited to have the dream team.
18:50I think we can have loads of them today.
18:52One thing I'm really conscious of, we've literally got about three hours to shoot this video.
18:56We've got plenty of time, we just need to have the idea very straight.
19:00We've got an idea and it's not going to take 20 minutes talking about that, is it?
19:03No, it wouldn't, it wouldn't.
19:04Let's try that, boom, done.
19:05Do you know what, right?
19:06If you think we should do it and it just rolls off the camera really easy, do it.
19:10Farringdon.
19:11Hi Maureen, lovely to see you again.
19:13Don't say Maureen.
19:14Why?
19:15It's totally unnecessary.
19:16Bringing character to Alana's cakes.
19:18Who do you know that is my age and called Maureen?
19:21I know people your age and my age that are called like Pink's Like Carol.
19:24First time director, Frances.
19:27It just sounds like we're making a joke of it.
19:29This isn't a joke for Alana.
19:30Oh my God, are we honestly standing here arguing over a meeting?
19:32Yeah, we are genuinely are.
19:33Be that Maureen.
19:35Smile.
19:36That's Maureen.
19:38Hi Maureen.
19:39Hey.
19:40How are you?
19:41I'm here to collect the cakes.
19:42And cut.
19:43There's something missing compared to yesterday that we had that you can't even word.
19:46Do you know what I mean?
19:47Did you see it?
19:48You saw it on camera, do you know what I mean?
19:50Honestly, truly, I feel like her brief was her cakes need to be luxury.
19:53They need to be high-end and bring a story round it.
19:55How do we make that story have more?
19:57Everyone needs to have more energy on camera.
19:59Really more.
20:00Ah!
20:01Today, it seems any sort of cheesiness or funness we try to put into it, it's very dampened by
20:06Rebecca.
20:07Just because it's luxurious doesn't mean it has to be dull.
20:09Right, I want personality.
20:11Be Maureen.
20:12I am Maureen.
20:13Action.
20:14What are you fancying today?
20:15Can I have a quick Rocky Road, please?
20:16Of course you can.
20:18Go, my dear.
20:19I'm sure I'll see you again soon.
20:20Oh, you will.
20:21I'll be back next week.
20:22See you later.
20:23Bye.
20:24I loved that.
20:28North London.
20:29So you've got husband and wife, it's their anniversary.
20:32Location for Purple Whale's epic tale.
20:35The husband's forgot the anniversary.
20:37What he does, he orders some love heart ice cream scoops and then he presents them to
20:42his wife.
20:43Everything's happy.
20:44That's the basic concept.
20:45So you walk in and you shut up the door.
20:49So you just walked home?
20:50That's it.
20:51Okay, sure, let's go on with it then, yeah?
20:52Yeah?
20:53Do it for you, go on.
20:54It's fine, it's fine, it's fine, it's fine.
20:55Sof, listen, do you remember what we said about?
20:56Let's not get the perfect.
20:57No, quickly, quickly.
20:58This is one second.
20:59Three, two, one, action!
21:00Sofian, I know, will think he's in charge of this TV advert.
21:04However, I'm going to take charge and I'm going to make sure that Courtney is
21:08going to be proud of the video.
21:09All we want to shut off, Alex, is me passing Karthik the card.
21:13Do you want to say to him, do you know what day it is?
21:15No, I don't want to say it.
21:16He wants it to be cheeky.
21:17I'll tell you what, I'll say it.
21:18Remember, he wants it to be cheeky.
21:19I'll say it.
21:20He said cheeky.
21:21So what do you do?
21:22You go from smiling into like a shocked face.
21:23You go...
21:24I think he knows what he's doing.
21:25Yeah?
21:26Happy anniversary, honey bun.
21:28OK, right, next scene, Sofian.
21:31One's going to be on his phone ordering from Purple Whale.
21:34Action.
21:35Hello, Purple Whale.
21:36Could I order something really quickly, please?
21:39Action.
21:40You melt my heart just like this ice cream is melting.
21:44Happy anniversary.
21:46Lunchtime.
21:47Packaging brainstorm.
21:49Lacking a little bit about your USP behind your brand.
21:53What's going to really make you stand out?
21:55For Alana, a branding rethink.
21:58I'm trying to dig into something to make you different.
22:00Gluten free or it's...
22:02It's not gluten free.
22:03I know it's not gluten free.
22:04Maybe having, you know, the Welsh flag or something.
22:08To go, I don't know.
22:10All I'm suggesting is just about what is, yeah,
22:13the uniqueness of you and your humble beginnings
22:17and where it all began.
22:18You could have on the box, you could have, like, my signature.
22:23It's your seal of approval.
22:25Yeah.
22:26Yeah.
22:27I like that.
22:28The penny has finally dropped and Alana has recognised
22:30that what is unique about her product is her.
22:33It's Alana.
22:34But given that the pitch is tomorrow,
22:35they are beginning to run out of time.
22:37They've got an awful lot of work to do today
22:39in order to put it all together and make it great.
22:41We want to redesign the logo.
22:43Ridiculously rich by Alana.
22:45Get rid of the cake stand and put in a bit of ownership.
22:51God, it is a bit better, isn't it?
22:56South London.
22:57Aiming to pitch a new novelty gift tomorrow, Courtney.
23:01The product that I'm thinking of doing is like a baby sippy cup.
23:05Yeah.
23:06A bit like a beaker.
23:07It's got two handles and it looks like a little trophy or a cup
23:10so that the kid's a winner.
23:11So it looks like he's lifting it up and going, yeah, yeah,
23:13but then he can go...
23:14Oh, I like it.
23:15And also I feel like it has an underlying message of maybe
23:17that I'm wanting to be the winner.
23:19Yeah, I'm a winner, yeah.
23:20Why not?
23:21I'm going to create a winning baby product.
23:23Yeah.
23:24Next up, a leading design and prototype agency.
23:28Maybe we can have a little base that you can store little snacks in there
23:32and then we can also add it so that you can put football badges on that
23:36and then we can sell them to football teams
23:38and just another commercial side of the product.
23:42This prototype has to convince Alan that he has ideas that will sell.
23:46But this is a flooded market.
23:48He's come up with a sippy cup idea.
23:50Is that original enough?
23:51Is that unique enough?
23:53Does it make this business investable enough?
23:56I don't know.
23:57Okay, that's looking great.
23:58I'm really pleased with how that's come out.
24:00What do you think, Paul?
24:01Yeah, I like it, I like it.
24:021.30pm.
24:07Deadline for cake packaging looming.
24:09Let's go with description.
24:11Chocolatey biscuit fudge filling and a chocolatey topping.
24:13A last-minute change of plan.
24:16I'm going to leave it in Oliver's capable hands.
24:19Thank you very much.
24:20Oliver, is everything all right?
24:21I'm going to give you one quick question.
24:23What do you think of the Welsh dragon with handmade...
24:26No, because I'm putting some text on the back that says about
24:29it being made in Wales.
24:31Anything of that?
24:32No.
24:33Okay.
24:34Packaging handed over.
24:36Alana's next stop, the TV advert.
24:39I mean, it's a tough decision I need to make.
24:42I was thinking, because the USP, I was thinking of having maybe
24:45the Welsh dragon on the back, on the front with dragon,
24:48then handmade in Wales to the left.
24:50If that could be encompassed on...
24:53Okay, I mean, did she want that?
24:57Well, I think at the end of the customer, I'm just trying,
24:59because not all of the customers will see it.
25:01And if somebody sees handmade in Wales, it could go...
25:05Yeah.
25:06It's quite important.
25:07Well, we could go with that, then, if that's what you think.
25:09It's quite a bit.
25:10Yeah.
25:114pm.
25:12Happy anniversary, honey bun.
25:14Editing their TV ad, Courtney's team.
25:20Hello, is it Bobby Wayne?
25:22I need something amazing for my anniversary right now.
25:25I thought Courtney's business was an online shop,
25:30not a phone-up, mail-order business.
25:32Why isn't he ordering it online?
25:37I think the thought process behind it, a lot of people,
25:39they order things now on the phone rather than the laptop, really.
25:47Hi.
25:48Hi, Courtney, are you okay?
25:49Yeah, good, thank you. How's it going your end?
25:52Yeah, it's going really good.
25:53Pretty much exactly what you wanted.
25:55Well, actually, yeah, it's like 95% exactly what you wanted.
25:58What's the other 5% that's different?
26:00I'm just going to put you on to Safian.
26:02Courtney?
26:03So, basically, the initial idea was...
26:06Someone makes a phone call and he's talking to your company.
26:10There was no point where this was ever a mail-order,
26:12phone-order product.
26:13It's always been an online product from the concept.
26:16Okay, can you just say order online?
26:19And then do it tapping the phone.
26:20All right, mate.
26:21Perfect.
26:22Thanks a lot.
26:23Cheers, bye.
26:24Bye, bye, bye.
26:25Bye.
26:26I know you can't do nothing now, so, you know, don't focus on it,
26:28but obviously...
26:30Yeah.
26:31...you didn't need that.
26:32I feel a bit for Courtney.
26:33He's given complete trust to the sub-team to produce the advert.
26:36He's relied on them, and I think in some respects they've let him down.
26:40Show me typing into the phone and show me saying yes.
26:43Yes.
26:44So I have done it online.
26:45Perfect, yeah.
26:46Movie magic.
26:48Just one hour left...
26:50Hi, Laurie!
26:51How are you?
26:52...to add Alana's signature approach to Ridiculously Rich.
26:56Hello.
26:57Hi!
26:58Oh, my God!
26:59Okay, so, brand change, logo's changed.
27:03I've put my name in it.
27:05Addiculously Rich by Alana, and it's signed by me.
27:08Well done, Alana.
27:09Right decision.
27:10Well done.
27:11We need to do a little bit of filming here now with me,
27:14and you need to edit that in.
27:15I know it's loads of stress.
27:16Maybe have me at the beginning as a voiceover,
27:18and then at the end...
27:19Okay.
27:20...me speaking straight into the camera.
27:21Right, so let's get this done then.
27:23I need to shoot off.
27:24Okay, yeah.
27:25We can create cakes for your cafes and your delis.
27:28We concentrate on making our products homemade and luxury,
27:31and we use the finest Belgian chocolate in all our products.
27:34Perfect.
27:35Yeah?
27:36Okay.
27:37Gotta go.
27:38Right, let's start editing.
27:39Bye.
27:40Good luck.
27:41Bye.
27:42I'm so glad she's changed that logo.
27:43Me and you made it clear to her yesterday that we didn't like it.
27:468pm.
27:47Do you think that would work?
27:49This sort of orangey?
27:50Left in sole charge of Alana's packaging.
27:53There's so much choice as well.
27:55Erm...
27:56Oliver.
27:57Erm...
27:58Right.
27:59I feel, Adam, that we should...
28:01Erm...
28:02Yeah.
28:03Let's see what we've got here.
28:05Let's see...
28:06I am slightly...
28:07I'm not going to lie, I am a bit panicked.
28:10You know, this is almost...
28:12My time...
28:13My time to shine.
28:15But I'm also now on the centre stage, and I'm feeling a little bit...
28:20A little bit concerned.
28:28Here we go.
28:299am.
28:30Wow, guys.
28:31Here it is.
28:32Here it is.
28:33Today, the finalists present their companies to Lord Sugar.
28:37Oh, my gosh!
28:38I love it!
28:39That is incredible.
28:41I love it.
28:42I love it.
28:43Works well with the orange.
28:44It's so good!
28:45I wanted to go for the Providence.
28:47Overruled!
28:48And I thought, you know, you're from Wales, it's home, you know.
28:50That's what they love.
28:51Pretty, isn't it?
28:52Well done.
28:53I think you've done a really good job.
28:54I think it works well.
28:55Well done, Oliver.
28:56But first, a chance to test their new brands on the public.
29:01I want you to do the consumer testing, and then feed me back any information.
29:05And then, yeah, I can try and put that into my pitch this afternoon.
29:08And then hopefully be crowned the winner.
29:11Yeah!
29:12Teams dispatched...
29:14Pitching has to be two things.
29:15It has to be educational, and it has to be entertaining.
29:17For the finalists, last-minute pitch preparation.
29:21The only thing that makes me real nervous is that I'm pitching
29:25250 people and the what is at stake.
29:31Talk like you're talking to me.
29:32OK.
29:33Right.
29:3417 years...
29:35Hold on.
29:36OK.
29:37Breathe.
29:38Start again.
29:39Hello, everyone.
29:40I'm Alana, and I'm the founder of Ridiculously Rich.
29:42It's so hard.
29:43It's so hard.
29:44It's so hard.
29:45Back to the start.
29:49East London.
29:50Time to see if Purple Whale makes a splash.
29:55What sort of company would you say this is?
29:58Photographic company.
29:59If you were to just see this on its own, does that pass the message?
30:02The actual name of it doesn't tell you what you do.
30:05OK.
30:06Purple Whale, I don't get it.
30:07OK.
30:08And now I have to read the small print.
30:10I think it should be a little bit more bigger.
30:12What do you think in the colour?
30:13It stands out there.
30:14If you look around here, there's not much purple, so I'd say...
30:17...probably a good colour.
30:2012 o'clock.
30:22For the finalists, pitch pending.
30:25The biggest worry for me is that I go on in front of them all and just go blank.
30:32No, you're not going to go blank.
30:33And you're going to nail it.
30:34Yeah.
30:35You are.
30:36Aren't you?
30:37I'm going to nail it.
30:38You'll be fine.
30:39You'll be absolutely fine.
30:40And you know what?
30:41I'm there next to you.
30:42I may be on the laptop, but at least you have a friend next to you there.
30:45You have already won this task by preparing that amazing product with your history, your business
30:50plan and, you know, the video.
30:52So I think you've already won it.
30:53This is just the culmination of it.
30:55Go in with that and the fact that you just have to be better than Alana.
30:58You will get it.
30:59You will win it.
31:01West London.
31:06Oh, that's amazing.
31:07Guys, this is excellent.
31:08So funny.
31:09Alana's team seek feedback for the pitch.
31:14If there are two words to sum up how that looked.
31:17Tasty.
31:18Yeah.
31:19That's expensive.
31:20Oh, right.
31:21Pitch.
31:22Sounds out.
31:23Yeah.
31:24Busy, though.
31:25It's a lot on one circle.
31:26Okay.
31:27Could you see that on a supermarket shelf?
31:28I can, but I wouldn't really look twice at that.
31:31Right, guys.
31:32I think that that was really positive feedback.
31:34There's been some good constructive criticism as well.
31:41City Hall.
31:44Landmark for London.
31:47Today, pitch location for Lord Sugar's finalists.
31:51This is where you're going to win it.
31:54How are you feeling?
31:55Are you feeling nervous?
31:56You wouldn't be human if you wasn't nervous at the thought of giving a pitch.
32:00You know, the fight's not one in the ring.
32:01It's one way before.
32:02And you won it.
32:03Yeah.
32:04My God, my heart's racing already.
32:05I am so passionate about the products that I create that when people ask, what's your
32:20USP?
32:21Me.
32:22I say, me.
32:27I'm sorry.
32:28I'm really, like, getting over panicking.
32:31Here they are.
32:32First, a chance to filter through the feedback.
32:36I'm fully prepared.
32:37I just want to try and get some information from you guys.
32:39See if I can add that in.
32:40Yeah.
32:41Did you find out much this morning?
32:42Yeah, we did.
32:43We found out that everyone liked the colour purple.
32:45They said it was different.
32:46There's not really many brands out there using that colour purple.
32:49In terms of reading the logo, Purple Whale, they didn't understand what it is, but then
32:53the tagline, so little gifts, big impressions, that kind of gives them a little idea of what
32:58industry is in.
32:59But the only thing they said on that is the tagline could have been slightly bigger.
33:02With Purple Whale, you wanted to do something that people didn't really get.
33:05They'd look into it more.
33:06And I felt from today's research, that's what you've done.
33:09Well, thanks for the info.
33:10That's what's hopefully going to win you that investment.
33:11It is.
33:12Hopefully it is.
33:13I think what's really important is that we've stressed out that the core of the
33:16consumers loved it.
33:17Obviously there were negatives in them, but I just think it's just now about building
33:22her up.
33:23Hi.
33:24Hi there.
33:25Hi you.
33:26How did it go?
33:27Loved it.
33:28Fantastic.
33:29Really good.
33:30They loved it.
33:31They loved the packaging.
33:32Really?
33:33Yeah.
33:34And it hit the luxury market, so that's covered.
33:35Brilliant.
33:36I know this sounds really bad, but anything bad?
33:38It was just all positive.
33:394pm.
33:53Settling in.
33:56Top names from British industry.
33:59Including experts from the worlds of giftware.
34:02And baking.
34:04I started in my brand's little country kitchen in West Wales.
34:14Hello ladies and gentlemen.
34:15My name is Courtney Wood, and today I'd like to present to you Purple Whale.
34:20Good.
34:21We're in place.
34:34Hoping to treat the experts to a tasty pitch, Alana Spencer.
34:39This literally means everything to me now.
34:46Everything I've done since I was 17 has been leading up to this one huge moment.
34:54Hello everyone.
34:55I'd like to introduce you to my brand, Ridiculously Rich.
34:59I started when I was 17 years old in my parents' little country kitchen in Wales.
35:05But this business can be a huge, nationwide business.
35:13I've got six core products that I think you've all had a selection to taste.
35:22So these aren't in no way limiting me, but these are the ones that I've worked on and absolutely perfected.
35:30They are luxury and they're homemade.
35:33And my secret recipes are, well they're just that, they're secret recipes.
35:40So what makes me different to all of the other people out there?
35:44And I genuinely believe that that is, that's me.
35:47So how do I see the business growing?
35:50It's a three pronged attack essentially.
35:52There's the food festival and the event side, which is the side of my business that I know like the back of my hand.
35:58Then there is the cafes, delis, anywhere that sells a coffee will also be selling Ridiculously Rich cakes.
36:05Finally, I propose the same products to go into retail in individual portions.
36:12And this is what you've got in front of you here.
36:14So how do I see the growth of production itself?
36:18I propose to outsource the production of my products.
36:22Okay, so I'd like to show you the little ads that I've worked on now.
36:25I'm Alana and I established my company Ridiculously Rich.
36:29We concentrate on making our products homemade and luxury and we use the finest Belgian chocolate in all our products.
36:36Ridiculously Rich, cakes so good they'll keep your customers coming back for more.
36:40I'd just like to say this is something that I know 100% I can make a success.
36:55Thank you for listening to me and I would like to open the floor to questions.
36:59As an owner of a retail outlet, what's very important to me is to understand the price that I can buy these things for and the price that I can sell them for.
37:09They would be a pound per unit, you know, they retail at three pounds a slice.
37:13So it's a nice bit of money to be made.
37:15How will your brownies stand out from the crowd?
37:17The personal touch, you know, I think if I can grow this brand so people know the brand is me, you stand out amongst the competition.
37:23The packaging is obviously very important because they need to, they need to be instantly grabbed by that.
37:29Alana, you take great pride in saying that you're made in Wales.
37:34So would this manufacturing plant be in Wales and will Wales still be part of your selling point?
37:41I mean, the Welsh thing, it's so important and I would propose to keep the production in Wales.
37:49Thank you all so much for your time. Thank you.
37:52APPLAUSE
37:59You were brilliant. Buzzing. Buzzing.
38:02You were amazing. Yeah.
38:04For Lord Sugar, expert feedback.
38:08I think artisan, handmade, luxury, Wales, I think it's a terrific story.
38:13But if you went to outsourcing, you lose a sense of the personality behind it all.
38:19And the personality also sells stuff.
38:21They tasted really nice.
38:23You know, it's nice with the kind of handmade in Wales, but is she going to be able to find someone that can do it in Wales?
38:28As long as she can prove that the quality is maintained, I don't think there is a major issue.
38:32In fact, I think it's probably more of a positive from my side.
38:36With designs on giving the perfect pitch, Courtney Wood.
38:41APPLAUSE
38:44Lord Sugar's posed the question, can I build a scalable business?
38:48I hope that I can eliminate all doubt from his mind.
38:52You don't get many opportunities in life to shine.
38:55And I feel that I've got this opportunity to show Lord Sugar what I'm made of.
39:00Wow.
39:01Er...
39:02Wow.
39:03So, er, hello ladies and gentlemen.
39:14I'm here today to present to you a new brand of novelty gifts, Purple Whale.
39:19I chose the name as I want it to stand out for the crowd and I wanted to make it sound a little random.
39:24The tagline, Little Gifts, Big Impressions, that relates to the unique and quirky gifts that I've created.
39:31We've also created a television advert.
39:38Happy Anniversary!
39:41Happy Anniversary Honeybun.
39:44Honey, I'm just going to get changed, huh?
39:48I'll just order something online.
39:53Hi honey.
39:54Hi.
39:55This ice cream is melting, just like you melt my heart.
39:58Happy Anniversary.
40:00Purple Whale.
40:01Little Gifts, Big Impressions.
40:05Well I'm pleased to hear that some of you enjoyed that.
40:08Er...
40:09The pricing for the products that I create, er, is usually between the £5 and £15 mark.
40:15Now I can achieve high volumes of sales by successfully getting my products in with high street retailers.
40:21And I'd be very confident I could sell 10,000 units.
40:25I also need to sell through my own website.
40:27As I am the manufacturer of my products, I'll earn very large profit margins.
40:33I believe the key to the success of me moving forward is building great products.
40:37And I've been busy over the past 24 hours creating a trophy baby beaker that was, well, created since yesterday morning.
40:44It's designed so babies can take a sip of success with each mouthful, really.
40:49There are many options that we're looking to do with this product.
40:53Now, I know there's quite a few football fans in the room here today.
40:56I've put one of the beakers in Claret and Blue of West Ham for Karen.
41:01And then the other one we've got in Blue and White for who I think are the best team, South End United.
41:08As you can see, that's the product that I've been able to create in a short amount of time.
41:13But I believe I've got the potential to create an even bigger range.
41:17Is there any questions anyone would like to ask?
41:20How do you plan to stop other people copying your products and taking away your identity?
41:24That is a concern, but the way to eliminate that is to actually successfully make that product for a good price.
41:32Being a product designer, but also managing this company, that's a lot of hats to wear. How are you going to manage that?
41:38I'd always be open to the idea of having someone running the business side of things for me,
41:43because I do know that my core strength is actually on the creative side.
41:47Courtney, high volume comes through big retailers.
41:51I'm just wondering as to why they would be buying off of you.
41:56Retailers will be buying into the brand.
41:58They'll be buying into a trusted brand that they know create quality products and continue to bring out good, innovative ideas.
42:06I believe that's the main key to my success, is that I build unique and original products.
42:11Well done, dude. Well done. You've got it.
42:12My concerns are, he's talking about £10 items. You've got to sell a hell of a load of those to run a business.
42:30The particular product he showed us was great. It was terrific. It was really well thought through.
42:35He needs a lot more of those, because it's a horribly competitive, very fickle market.
42:39Novelty Gifts already is anchoring yourself in a throwaway niche market.
42:43His ideas are the currency of what he trades in, clearly. His ideas are fantastic.
42:47I think he's a really exciting talent. You know, he needs a guiding hand.
42:50After pitching to 250 people and the pressures of today, I'm feeling good, to be honest. Yeah, it went well.
43:02Thinking going into that ballroom, I've got a very good chance of being Lord Sugar's business partner.
43:07I've shown Lord Sugar, if he goes into business with me, what I have to offer.
43:11I think it could make us both potentially ridiculously rich.
43:15Tonight, there's nothing more the candidates can do. Tomorrow, the final boardroom.
43:31You can go through to the boardroom now.
43:45Well, past candidates, welcome back.
43:52Thank you for assisting the two finalists. I'm sure that you're happy to see them through to the final.
43:58We'll start off with Courtney's team.
44:01As a matter of interest, it's always intriguing for me to understand why you chose this particular team.
44:08Yeah, I wanted everyone in my team to have strong personalities.
44:11Oh, you got that. Yeah.
44:12I chose Karthik due to his pitching capabilities. I thought he could help me.
44:17Also, Paul brings that kind of devil's advocate. He's critical, but it's constructive criticism.
44:23We don't charge for smiling in here, Paul, you know.
44:26So, the first thing you had to do was come up with a name.
44:30Yeah, we came up with quite a few names.
44:32I just wanted it to be different and sound random and so it would stand out because I make quirky, unusual gifts.
44:36Bingo Bongo, Ringo Dingo, Bonkers. Is that yours, Karthik Bonkers?
44:43At one point we had Pocket Pleasures, which would have conjured up a whole different type of business.
44:48Yeah. And you ended up with?
44:50Purple Whale.
44:51Purple Whale.
44:52Okay. So, we've got her name. I asked you to produce billboards.
44:57Yeah, I sent the sub-team off to create the digital screen. Jessica was in charge of Paul and Sofiane.
45:04So, Paul and Sofiane. It's not a sub-team name, more like a rematch of Rumble in the Jungle, the YouTube, wasn't it?
45:09I think all three of us, it was quite interesting.
45:12Yeah, it was an interesting day.
45:13To be fair, I think we all pulled together and we managed to get lots of different small video clips
45:17and then we had a puppet in there just to make it a little bit more fun.
45:20Okay. Did the actual screen itself show your products?
45:23No, it didn't.
45:24No, it didn't.
45:25Right.
45:27This reminds me sometimes of when creative people get carried away making television adverts
45:32and we watch them and my wife turns to me and says,
45:35what was that about? Or what are they selling?
45:38So, go on, we've got this purple well, yeah?
45:41So, with the tagline, what we make is little products for around £10.
45:45So, little gifts, big impressions being that if you give someone a small gift,
45:48we want it to have a big impression in their life.
45:50It's a shame you couldn't read that strapline on the billboard very well.
45:53It was quite small, wasn't it?
45:55Erm, yeah.
45:56Okay. So, we move on to the television advert.
45:59I wanted to make sure that Karthik was in there.
46:01And so, as well as his acting skills, that's why I wanted to...
46:03These acting skills.
46:05Might be a new career.
46:07Yeah.
46:08I wouldn't hold your breath, Simon.
46:10Yes.
46:11You'd forgotten the anniversary.
46:13To be honest, she probably doesn't want to be reminded of being married to you, no doubt,
46:16but you were happy with it being a bit...
46:18Yeah, I thought that would help follow the brand and what we're trying to create.
46:22Yeah. What did we do after that?
46:23On the second day, me and Paul went to a design studio
46:26to create an idea I had for a new product, which was a trophy baby beaker
46:31so kids can pick it up and look like a winner.
46:33Yeah.
46:34I wanted to show you that we can create a product that we could sell to a high street retailer.
46:38I mean, that product there is made in 12 hours. That's just stunning.
46:42And I can see that selling straight away.
46:44It would. I agree.
46:45Let's move on to the presentation. How do you think he did?
46:48It seemed like the presentation went really well.
46:50The evening before, I went and met a pitching expert and he gave me some advice.
46:54Really helped you, didn't it?
46:55It looked good. It looked all right to me.
46:57You didn't see Courtney when he presented the astro version when he stood on stage
47:01looking like he was about to be sick.
47:03And the difference between that and your pitch at the final, I thought, was remarkable.
47:08So very well done.
47:10So, you're very pleased to help represent him.
47:12Yeah, definitely.
47:13And surprised that he's got to this far?
47:15Not surprised.
47:16Not surprised at all.
47:17Not too much.
47:18Not too much?
47:19Well, a little.
47:20Well, I'm not there. I'm not here as well.
47:23No, no. We know you're not there. Let's be sure.
47:26Blatantly clear.
47:27Now, Alana, why did you choose this group of people?
47:31I got everyone I wanted in my team.
47:33Rebecca is in marketing and I needed someone that did that on my team.
47:37The two ladies, Francis and Gonya, they're just strong women.
47:41And Oliver is in the food industry, which is exactly what I want to go into.
47:44So that's a good choice, right?
47:45Absolute wealth of knowledge, yes.
47:46Absolute wealth of knowledge, yes.
47:47So we've got Ridiculously Rich by Alana.
47:50Yeah.
47:51That's your brand name.
47:52Yeah.
47:53We went to create the first logo after that.
47:55And, yeah, it wasn't amazing.
48:00But we decided to change it the next day so everything was okay.
48:05You just brushed over that.
48:08Yeah.
48:09Why did you change it the next day?
48:10Because I realised I wanted to be the driving force of my brand,
48:13so I wanted to actually put my name on it.
48:15And that name also is the assurance to the customer.
48:17Good idea.
48:18Yeah, I like that.
48:19And Lucha Guy wanted to...
48:20Which includes Alan.
48:21Yeah.
48:22That's my cross-dressing alter ego, I think.
48:23Really?
48:24Yeah.
48:25Yeah.
48:26Right.
48:27Good.
48:28So let's move on to the television advert.
48:30Can I perhaps just introduce you to...
48:32Maureen.
48:33Maureen.
48:34Maureen.
48:35Right.
48:36My instruction, that was something they took upon themselves.
48:38Yeah.
48:39The advert concept that we came up with was if you take our cakes on board in your cafe,
48:44you'll get repeat custom.
48:46So that's why we had the same person coming back a few times.
48:49Okay, so it was deliberate then, was it?
48:50Yes.
48:51Then halfway through the day when that brand got changed, put my name in it.
48:54I thought it was really important that I move myself over.
48:56I saw you featuring quite a lot in the advert to show that this is my company.
49:00And I think it was a good idea.
49:01Okay, so while all this was going on, you trusted young Oliver here to deal with the packaging.
49:07Yeah.
49:08I told Oliver, don't make any drastic changes beside the colouring.
49:11You informed him, don't talk about Wells, but he couldn't resist it and he put the dragon on them.
49:16I wanted a strong marketing message for Alana and I think we should concentrate on the provenance of her brand.
49:22Yeah, he did a good job, didn't he?
49:23He did a very good job, yeah.
49:24Okay, so presentation-wise, was you nervous?
49:27I was, yeah, I was incredibly nervous.
49:30It's the longest walk down those steps.
49:32Did you think you did okay?
49:34Yeah, I do.
49:35And I think all the questions that got thrown at me, I managed to answer well.
49:40Incredible winner?
49:41Yes, definitely.
49:42Yeah, definitely.
49:43You can see the difference in Alana from the whole process, you know, from week one to now.
49:48And I think a lot of people would probably be shocked at the fact that she's in it.
49:51But she deserves to be here.
49:52Well, I mean, when she started off, she was very, very quiet.
49:54Yeah, that's true.
49:55If I didn't know better, I thought someone had taken a super injunction out.
49:58But, good.
49:59Well, look, thanks a lot.
50:00You've been very, very helpful to me and obviously been very helpful to the two finalists.
50:06So, thanks a lot.
50:07And, well, good luck to you all.
50:12so I now like to talk to you a little bit more about your individual businesses Alana it's day
50:35one you've got my turn of 50,000 pounds you're working in your little kitchen there yeah how
50:40you're gonna scale that up for me I would take myself out of the kitchen and I would be going
50:46and visiting not just the independents but larger retailers and cafes so mr. cafe on that why am I
50:53not going to say to you well you know get these brownies from anybody yeah I would absolutely try
50:59and grow the grow the brand brand recognition with the retail packs which are for snacking
51:04they're the yeah they're the ones that you would grab with your sandwich and they're just so you
51:11pack them up singly like that yeah and that in my view is how you would get your brand across if they
51:16were drop-dead delicious and someone came in and bought one goes back to the office and said you've
51:20got to try these they're great I understand that what I don't understand is when this is wide open
51:24sitting in a cafe somewhere how do I know it's ridiculously rich by Alana I would absolutely
51:29make sure that they had things to you know the the product list so that they can have that on their
51:35display to get the brand out that's a cake isn't it but you know a brownies a brownies a bit of a cake
51:41the brand that I want to put forward is exciting cakes they're different cakes I will be at the
51:45forefront of my brand and people will want to buy into my brand because they like what it's about
51:50all right well Courtney I heard you tell people yesterday that your pricing is between the five to ten to
51:56fifteen pound yeah you and I've got to sell a lot of items to turn this into a big business yeah it's
52:03about getting that one killer product to really bring in that money so I think this new product
52:07I've created has the potential to be a killer product yeah I think this is very good I think
52:11you'd have six months at this right before someone else knocks them off I've never been short of ideas
52:17I've got ten ideas ready for next year I've got that planned out because I know that's what my time
52:22constraints and my money constraints can allow me to do yeah there was talk of you branding
52:26this in current blue for example for West Ham or blue and white for Spurs it might show a little
52:31bit of naivety Karen would tell you that if you went to West Ham and said to them I want to make
52:36that in West Ham colors first thing West Ham would say to you is good how much are you going to pay me
52:42I don't know what would you say Karen 20 grand upfront license entry I mean you get some cheap clubs like
52:47Spurs and then you get some more expensive clubs like West Ham or Manchester United your 250,000
52:52wouldn't go very far okay well what you've highlighted there is actually having the
52:56official brand licenses however I could actually make that in claret and blue colors and then sell
53:02it as a generic trophy in their color schemes yeah okay so listen this is very very important decision
53:09for me to make now so I'm gonna ask you to step outside and when you come back in you're gonna be
53:14telling me why I should be choosing you as my business partner okay so off you go I'll see you soon
53:21well I've got a difficult task there for myself now both very credible candidates both very similar
53:41dilemmas really it's all to do with scaling up isn't it I mean what's true about Alana is she
53:46certainly knows her products where she struggles Alan is understanding how to run a business you need
53:53a completely different skill set to running something in your mother's kitchen to going
53:57out and being a big distributor but that's where you come in that's where you can really help her
54:02Courtney I think he's got a particular skill and that is in design he might just hit on one product
54:08just is a killer you ever come across a designer that's got any commercial sense few he may be one
54:15of them no in my case I was also a bit of a designer but fortunately I could design them and then get
54:22them into the marketplace perhaps he's someone else like me yes the sugar okay can you send the two of
54:30them in place well I had a talk with Karen and Claude it's a difficult decision for me to make because
54:53it's such a valuable price so Courtney I'd like you to tell me why you think you should be my business
54:59partner I've met with the biggest high street department store and then they actually placed a
55:05big order with me last year however I was too small to actually fulfill the order I believe that I'm a
55:09business now and it's just ready for that growth stage I believe that 250,000 pounds investment I can
55:14make it a big success and I think Alana she's a very creative Baker however she's not a businesswoman
55:20to say I'm just a Baker is absolutely a load of rubbish if you compared the two of our businesses
55:25I turnover a year less than you do however my profits are much higher and business in my opinion
55:32is all about making as much profit as you can so to say I'm not a businesswoman is is an absolute load
55:39of rubbish well I've already sold my products to five distributors across the world I've already got
55:46my products five distributors across the world whereas I sell events every weekend literally
55:51just one event a weekend and I turn over a profit of way more than your company does and the margins
55:58on my products are far greater than the margin on Courtney's product yeah maybe but every time I
56:04make 3,000 products I'd break even on the cost of development of that product so that we can recover
56:10your tooling costs yeah and so from that point on you've then got a lot higher gross profit margin
56:16then Alana he claims that my investments going to aid him to bring out more products and bigger volume
56:22and it could potentially be bigger volume but how many times is someone going to order a bunch of baby
56:28bottles you might buy one his products are very niche whereas cakes is something that people buy as a
56:33treat possibly every day 20 million people in the UK do buy novelty items so I believe the markets there
56:39okay listen this is very unusual situation I have here at the moment you're both one man bands you're
56:48both products are very low price you've both got a kind of scale up really I have a dilemma here at the
56:57moment Alana I fully get it that you make some great stuff I know the margins are good and I think this
57:07one's got a lot of potential but having said that Courtney manufacturing and all that type of stuff
57:15that you do is like nothing to me I mean I've done it all my life so I could certainly assist in your
57:22business no question of it it's a tough one Alana the cakes the advisors that I had yesterday said
57:36they were good stuff and maybe you can convince people that they've got to go and buy ridiculously rich
57:45by Alana but people say to me stick to what you know in fact I got as far as to say that when I didn't
57:57stick to stick to what I know I lost a lot of money and that's the gamble that I've got to take
58:03but I've got to make a decision I've got to go with my gut feeling so Alana you're gonna be my business
58:19partner oh my god I worked so hard I will 100% I'll make it work I'll make it happen thank you
58:29it's a very well done I'll catch up with you later
58:36well I've got myself a great winner but I think Courtney is a good lad and I admire what he's
58:51achieved so far but I think you know Alana's business was interesting she's grown throughout
58:56the process and I think that with my backing that we can turn this into a very big business
59:12I can't believe it I can't I can't believe I'm the winner it's mad
59:15this is definitely going to change my life if I can pull it off it's going to be an incredible business
59:25the future is looking bright 18 candidates one investment Lord Sugar's search for a new business partner is over
