00:00August 18th isn't just another day in Thailand's calendar, but it is a day to celebrate science.
00:07It honors King Mungkud, or King Lamar IV, who in 1868 amazed the world by predicting a total
00:13solar eclipse. Using his own calculations, he told the date, time and place of the eclipse,
00:19since he came to watch and his prediction was accurate. Sadly, the king caught malaria and
00:24passed away soon after. But his work inspired many people and in 1982, Thailand officially
00:31declared 18th of August National Science Day. Thanks to this, King Lamar IV has become the
00:37father of Thai science study. Every year, schools, museums, and science centers open the doors with
00:43hands-on experiments, robot challenges, and space talks. It's a day for everyone, even young and old,
00:50to ask questions, explore, and discover something new.
