00:00Did you know that in Thai, one thing can have five different words?
00:04Today, I present to you a Thai language short crash course.
00:08The action eat has many levels and is used according to the person using it.
00:13The first one, กิน, which is used as an everyday word, polite and most common.
00:18You might hear a Thai auntie ask you กินอะไรมาได้ยัง?
00:22Which means, have you eaten yet?
00:24The second is แดก, this is more on the ruder side,
00:27often used among very close friends or probably mortal enemies.
00:31So remember, don't use it.
00:33Next is รับอาทาน, this is polite and often used in settings
00:37where you are speaking to someone older than you.
00:39There's also a different word for eating when it comes to monks.
00:42We do not say กิน for monks, but we say ฉัน.
00:45And side note, monks in Thailand are only allowed to eat from sunrise to 11 a.m.
00:51The last one is สวย, which is used exclusively for the royal family.
00:55And who said learning Thai was hard?
