More than a thousand frustrated gun owners gathered outside Parliament House to support a motion to scrap the government's controversial new firearms regulations. The motion was dead in the water before it went to a vote and the government says the move could have resulted in "total firearm anarchy".
00:00Gun owners taking their anger straight to the source.
00:06Stand with us!
00:09Fed up with regulations they say are prohibiting their freedoms.
00:13I've been trying for three months to get a gun licence.
00:16I already have one.
00:18And it's expired.
00:20And you can't even, it's just ridiculous.
00:22It's not been an easy process.
00:24I don't think there's been a lot of thought put behind it.
00:26Legalised cannabis MLC Brian Walker moving a motion in the upper house to scrap firearms regulations that make it harder to get gun licences.
00:36Including requiring stronger evidence of why guns are needed and approval by a medical professional.
00:43Well I'm very happy to be standing here standing up for freedom and truth and indeed justice for the people.
00:48With a very important legislation which we all need but the current legislation we have is not fit for purpose.
00:55But the motion didn't get far.
00:57The Greens confirming their position.
00:59But this nuclear option left before Parliament today of literally blowing it all up is something that can't be supported so we won't be supporting that.
01:08Members the results of the division are ayes 17 nos 19.
01:14Although the motion fell over just like the previous disallowance motion in the lower house back in May.
01:21The government claims the move was reckless and could have led to total chaos if successful.
01:28Every firearm in the state would be prohibited if the disallowance motion was to succeed.
01:36That would lead to total firearm anarchy in Western Australia.
01:42He says disallowing the regulations would make the laws unenforceable but the opposition disagrees.
01:49We're not disallowing the 2024 act people.
01:52That act remains in place.
01:54Police will retain the power with the disallowance to seize firearms under the 2024 act.
02:02While the motion failed the debate is far from over.
02:09And so it should stop coming this way.
02:15A number of signals was grinding the power with the dam.
02:17Coloramour is burned on윈 25 blocks.
02:20Now I'm ready to control the ensignalance of this situation.
