00:57Good afternoon ladies and gentlemen, welcome to a very very special afternoon supporting
01:13our fabulous Worthing Veterans Association of course to mark VJ Day. So we're going to
01:19begin our proceedings if it's okay with you to read the official proclamation that we'll
01:24be reading throughout the country and throughout the world. We tell Brian's tomorrow. Oh yay!
01:31Oh yay! 80 years ago today, the UK and the world prepared to celebrate VJ Day, marking
01:45the end of World War II. Fighting in the Asia Pacific took place from Hawaii to North
01:54East India. Britain and the Commonwealth's principal fighting force, the 14th Army was one of the
02:03most diverse in history. More than 40 languages were spoken and all the world's major religions
02:13represented. The descendants of many of the Commonwealth veterans of that army are today part of a
02:22multicultural communities around the world. A lasting legacy to the success and comradeship
02:32of those who fought in the Asia Pacific. Ladies and gentlemen, please let us pause just to remember
02:39those we lost, were wounded, scarred and lives were changed forever by war. For the selflessness of those who gave up so much that we may enjoy the blessings of freedom,
02:47democracy and of peace. God save his majesty the King!
