00:00A website is going viral where people can draw anywhere on a world map.
00:03This is WPlace, a website inspired by Reddit's r slash place subreddit
00:07that's gaining steam on social media as players share their art.
00:10WPlace follows the same premise as r slash place.
00:13The site offers a large canvas that anyone can place pixels on to create art,
00:16either by themselves or with the help of others.
00:19But WPlace has some key differences from r slash place.
00:22Other than the fact that it's permanent, the canvas itself is different.
00:25Rather than offering a simple blank canvas,
00:27WPlace gives you an entire map of the world to draw on.
00:30That's 4 trillion pixels worth of space.
00:32With the addition of leaderboards tracking which country has the most pixels on it,
00:35it's quickly becoming a competitive and popular site.
00:38People are sharing their art and others' art on social media.
00:40There are truly impressive pieces, many of which are based on video games like Deltarune.
00:44Some of the best art examples interact with the details of the map,
00:47like drawing trees in a field or adding ducks to rivers.
00:50The website was designed by Murillo Matsubara and launched this year.
00:53It went viral in late July 2025, with substantial numbers of users from around the world.
00:57With over 4 trillion pixels available,
00:59people are rushing to claim their real estate on the digital world.
01:02Why is this character everywhere? And what is it?
01:06The meme is known as IFO, and it's a reference to a member of the prominent
01:09Minecraft server and content creation group Hermitcraft named Ethos Lab.
01:13The IFO meme originates from a video by YouTuber and Hermitcraft member Gryan posted on May 2017, 2024.
01:19In the video, members of Hermitcraft play Guess the Build,
01:22a game where one player builds something in Minecraft and the others try to guess what it is.
01:26At the 7.55 timestamp, Hermitcraft member Skiz is tasked with building fellow member Ethos Lab, also known as Etho.
01:32Ethos' Minecraft skin is inspired by Kakashi from Naruto, featuring white hair, a mask, a red eye, and a gray and white color scheme.
01:39Skiz's build incorporated these colors and features, including the red eye and white hair,
01:43but rendered them in the shape of an Among Us crewmate, echoing the Amogus meme.
01:47Viewers found the build humorous and began calling it EFO, a nickname some Hermitcraft fans already used for Etho.
01:53EFO quickly became a running joke in the Hermitcraft community after the video was posted.
01:57On the same day, Reddit user u slash FluffySparks shared sketches of the build to the slash r slash Hermitcraft subreddit,
02:04gaining over 1,300 upvotes in a year.
02:07Over the following months, fans created a variety of EFO-themed works, including wooden block sculptures,
02:11crocheted dolls, clay models, and even Minecraft habitats, styled like hamster cages.
02:16Some recreated EFO in other games, such as Terraria.
02:19Until mid-2025, EFO memes largely stayed within Hermitcraft-specific spaces, like the subreddit and Discord servers.
02:25WPlace is an interactive website modeled after Reddit's slash r slash place, but set on a pixelated world map where users can create art collaboratively.
02:32It went viral in late July 2025, attracting fandoms from across the internet.
02:36In early August 2025, Hermitcraft fans began drawing EFO on the WPlace map.
02:41On August 7th, ex-user at vovodeer underscore posted a screenshot showing a massive EFO being built in Newfoundland, Canada as part of a coordinated fan effort.
02:49Other notable EFO art on WPlace includes EFO Henge, a Stonehenge recreation made entirely of EFOs, and an EFO rendition of the lost meme.
02:56On August 8th, Reddit user Iamatomato posted an everywhere I go I see his face meme about EFO's prevalence on WPlace, earning over 350 upvotes in under a day.
03:05There are lots of people that are online talking about EFOs, and we've been searching for and in a way, the east side of the world, even though it is a huge deal.
03:14They are also known to have a whole year, but the east side of the world moved away from the world.
03:19Now that you haven't been to the public, that I've been to the public for the most part of a world.
03:23So let's look around, so let's come back.
