00:00You know, it was quite crazy, isn't it, sometimes when you switch on your TV and you see some images.
00:05And I saw the images of the National Guard arriving in Washington, D.C., full camo outfits.
00:13You know, this is something that's in place and it's definitely happening.
00:18But what are your thoughts on these troops in D.C.?
00:21Well, authoritarian push were exactly the words that we heard used in L.A. during the riots.
00:25It's there where we saw 4,000 troops, 700 Marines were sent in as well to control the rioting there as well.
00:31This is a highly political move on the part of the Trump administration.
00:35It is a very clear message from President Trump to say that he is taking direct control over someplace that is his stomping ground and that he can the Democratic-led city of D.C.
00:44Now, statistically speaking, crime is down.
00:47But however, it's been down year on year.
00:49So if we look back at 2024, down by 35 percent on violent crimes, 2025 year, mid-year review so far.
00:55It looks like it's down as well.
00:56Homicide is down by around 12 percent.
00:58So on the surface, you would think, is this really necessary?
01:01But this, as we said, is his stomping ground.
01:03And this is where he can really make a difference.
01:06Is it overkill?
01:06It's certainly nowhere near what we saw in L.A.
01:08But it's a worrying sight to see something like this and to see the Trump administration put that many troops on the ground is a bit of a concern.
01:16But I think he's trying to send a clear message.
