00:00Hey-o! I'm Randy Pitchford, founder of Gearbox Entertainment.
00:07Today, we're giving you our deepest look yet at Borderlands 4.
00:12All the excitement, loot, and gnarly carnage all running on PlayStation 5 Pro.
00:22Since creating the looter-shooter genre nearly 16 years ago,
00:25we've continued to refine the formula delivering better loot,
00:28greater freedom, and endless mayhem.
00:31And with Borderlands 4, we've pushed things even further.
00:34This is hands down our best Borderlands ever.
00:37All new movement, abilities, bigger and badder enemies,
00:40and a brand new planet, all in service of making you feel like a total badass.
00:44It's the perfect entry point for new players with incredible new places and a great story.
00:49And for our long-time Borderlands fans, we're throwing back to our more grounded tone
00:55while pushing gameplay ahead further than ever before.
00:59This is the culmination of years of hard work from my teammates across the Gearbox Studios.
01:05So enough talk, let's get it!
01:07This is Borderlands 4.

01:25Borderlands is an unforgiving sci-fi universe where life is cheap and guns are plentiful.
01:34You play as a vault hunter, a badass mercenary with powerful abilities called action skills.
01:40Today I'm playing as Vex, our new siren.
01:43She wields supernatural phase energy to devastating effect.
01:48She can use that energy to empower herself or channel it to conjure deadly minions that
01:54fight alongside her.
01:57And because everything's better in co-op, I'm joining as Rafa, a former TDR soldier who wears
02:02an experimental exosuit.
02:05He can destruct an arsenal of weapons, like the razor-sharp Arknives.
02:10These are two of our four new vault hunters that you can play at launch.
02:15Borderlands 4 takes place on Kairos, an all-new planet steeped in conflict.
02:21For thousands of years, the Timekeeper kept the planet hidden.
02:25Controlling its inhabitants with bolts, cybernetic implants fused to their spots.
02:31Anyone who stepped out of line was brutally crushed by his army of synthetic soldiers known
02:36as the Order.
02:37That is until six years ago when Alpa showed up.
02:42This rogue moon was teleported away from Pandora at the end of Borderlands 3 by the legendary
02:47vault hunter Lilith.
02:48When it reappeared across the galaxy, it crashed into the protective veil around Kairos.
02:55The results were devastating.
02:56A planet-wide cataclysmic event that disrupted the Timekeeper's perfect order.
03:03Now people all across Kairos have started rising up.
03:07Some even ripping out their bolts.
03:09And chunks of their brain along with it.
03:11Here it comes!
03:13That's the situation our vault hunters have crash-landed into.
03:17A planet ready to explode, and you're the spark.
03:24As you explore, you'll meet a cast of incredible characters.
03:29Fan favorites return, like Zane and Moxie.
03:34You'll also meet new friends like Rush.
03:38And as always, Claptrap is along for the ride.
03:41Last but not least is Echo 4.
03:47This helpful drone follows you everywhere.
03:50Hacking order tech, scanning the environment, and helping guide you to objectives.
03:56But enough of all that.
03:58Let's get into the game.
04:04Thanks to our improved lobby system,
04:06it's easier than ever to join up with your friends on the fly.
04:10And with full cross-play at launch, you can play with your friends on any platform.
04:15Today, we're venturing into Terminus Range.
04:18A frigid, mountainous region.
04:20This is just one of the four zones on Kairos that you can seamlessly explore.
04:25There's next to no loading time.
04:27Just endless looting and shooting mayhem.
04:31For our current mission, we need to break into a secret black site
04:34located deep in the mountains.
04:37One of the Timekeeper's Generals, Vile Lichter,
04:39has been conducting grotesque experiments on locals.
04:43It's up to us to stop him.
04:47All right, let's get moving.
04:50Here, I'm using Glide, one of our new movement abilities.
04:54Along with Dash, Double Jump, Climbing, and Point Grapple,
04:57these make getting around more fun and add a ton of utility to combat.
05:05As you traverse, you'll uncover a vast and beautiful world.
05:10And to bring Kairos to life, we've introduced dynamic weather and events,
05:14so you constantly have new things to discover.
05:17There's also plenty of local wildlife to contend with,
05:19like these crotch, flying bees who attack and flocks.
05:23Here we've come across a silo,
05:32one of several new activities in Borderlands 4.
05:36You'll naturally discover short gameplay experiences like this all across Kairos.
05:41There's no need to pick up a mission first.
05:43These are auto-granted and tracked on your hut.
05:46Silos house old, decommissioned order tech
05:48that you can hijack for the Crimson Resistance.
05:50With the help of Echo 4, we'll hack into their network and release the communications balloon.
05:55Now that we're in charge, we can fast travel to the silo.
05:59And as a bonus, it's revealed the approximate location of a Vault Key fragment.
06:05We can collect these fragments to unlock a hidden vault,
06:08a high-level dungeon with challenging combat and serious loot.

06:46Another nice thing about silos is you can zip line up and take off.
06:57And if that's not fast enough for you, you can always pull out your personal vehicle,
07:02the DigiRunner.
07:03Just hop on, hit boost, and get rolling.
07:06You can customize the body, paint job, and even how it handles.
07:10And because this is Borderlands, you best believe it has guns.
07:19As you traverse, you'll encounter a host of dynamic events.
07:22From order patrols to world bosses, there's always something to shoot and loot.
07:27All right, we're coming up on an order outpost.
07:41Let's see the new movement abilities in action.
07:44Chaining our new traversal abilities together makes combat more dynamic than ever.
08:01You can dash in and out of melee attacks, dodge projectiles, or quickly reposition to gain an advantage.

08:57We're meeting up with none other than the tiger of Partali herself, Amara.
09:02She's a former vault hunter and exotic pet sitter from Borderlands 3.
09:06She came to Kairos in search of Lilith, and is now helping us take down the timekeeper.

09:20Ugh, you agreed to pet sit for a few weeks, and the next thing you know you're having
09:24all conversations with animals.
09:29You don't use security like that unless you've got something to hide.
09:32This must be the path to the Blacksite.

09:36But if Lilith is on the other side, I don't mind some property destruction.

09:58This place is crawling with creeps.
10:00Clear them out.
10:02Co-op has always been at the heart of Borderlands, and we've put a ton of work into making it
10:07better than ever.
10:08Our improved lobby was just the start.
10:10You can also set your own campaign difficulty independently of the rest of the party.
10:14This way, everyone can tune the experience to their liking.
10:17And you don't have to worry about looting and just stealing your drops, as loot is always
10:22instanced for each player.
10:23Plus, if you ever get split up, it can easily fast travel to your friends.
10:27And two-player split-screen returns so you can enjoy couch co-op.
10:31Regardless of how you play, we just want you to be able to hang with your buddies and have
10:35a great time.

11:34Now that we're in the black side, let's take a moment to talk about Lilith.
11:41In Borderlands 4, each piece of gear comes from one of eight manufacturers with their own
11:46characteristics and trademarks.
11:48There's Jacobs, with crit-friendly black powder weapons.
11:52The elemental expertise of Maliwan.
11:55Vladov, who solved lower accuracy with more bullets.
11:59The Toss to Reload TD ore.
12:04Or Tord with explosions!
12:07We also have three new ones.
12:09The Order, with powerful charge and release blasts.
12:12Fully auto rippers.
12:14And the reliable, easy to use Daedalus, which can use multiple ammo types.
12:19But that's just the start.
12:22We've introduced an all-new licensed parts system.
12:25This allows for behaviors and abilities from multiple manufacturers to spawn in a single
12:29weapon.
12:30For instance, this flat-off assault rifle features a Torg Mag, Hyperion Shield, and a Maliwan
12:35Elemental Switch.
12:37Meaning it shoots fast and explodes things.
12:40The higher the rarity, the more parts that can randomly spawn, creating wilder and wilder
12:45loot.
12:46And that's before even getting into alt-fire modes, under barrels, and elemental damage.
12:53The possibilities are truly endless.
12:57To support playing with your favorite manufacturer, we've added enhancements.
13:02This new type of gear replaces artifacts and provides bonuses to specific manufacturers.
13:09Take my current enhancement.
13:11It adds a kill bonus to all guns with Daedalus parts.
13:14Along with more reload speed and critical damage.
13:19This lets you min-max your build around your favorite manufacturer, immediately turning
13:24just-okay guns into amazing weapons.
13:27Finally, we've heard your feedback, and we've overhauled our drop rates and loot across the game.
13:32We've worked hard to make sure all our gear feels better than ever, while also making rarity
13:37matter again.
13:38This makes for our most satisfying loot chase ever.
13:40And at the top of everything are legendaries.
13:43These have always had unique effects that you won't find on any other piece of gear.
13:47But in Borderlands 3, they drop too often.
13:50This not only devalued legendaries, it made everything feel less valuable.
13:54In our new system, not only do all guns feel great, but now legendaries will truly be special events.
14:01We've added the magic back to our loot chase, and we know you'll love grinding all that great gear on Kairos.
14:07But let's get back to combat, so I can show you my favorite thing, Ordnance.
14:12This is the new gear slot for grenades and heavy weapons, like rocket launchers.
14:22Instead of taking up a gun slot and ammo, Ordnance now has cooldown timers.
14:26No more saving the big guns for boss fights.
14:29Now you can blow stuff up as often as you want.
14:32Before we go further, let's talk a little bit about action skills.
14:47Every Vault Hunter has a set of three unique action skills.
14:51These are class-defining abilities with devastating effects.
14:54Up until now, I'd been using Incarnate to deliver powerful phase blasts.
14:59But let's switch it up to phase familiar and pull out trouble.
15:02As you can see, each action skill has its own branching skill tree, giving you more build freedom than ever before.
15:09On top of passive skills, you can further customize action skills with augments and capstones.
15:14These are socketed enhancements that add new behaviors and functions to your action skill.
15:19Different builds completely change how combat plays out, resulting in near endless freedom to experiment.
15:25You can swap unlock augments or capstones on the fly, or completely respec your skill trees at hubs around Kairos.
15:32This gives us a chance to talk about traits.
15:35Each Vault Hunter has a unique passive ability called a trait.
15:38For Vex, her action skills attune to the element of her equipped weapon.
15:42So by swapping guns, I can change trouble's damage from kinetic to shock, fire, or any other elemental type.
15:50And also, you can pet the cat.
15:53Ah, dead end.
15:55Or is it?
15:57Let's see where this vent takes us.

16:56Of course, I could have avoided it in the first place if I had just used my ref kit.
17:00This new piece of gear provides health and other buffs, like temporarily boosting my elemental damage, rate of fire, or movement speed.
17:12I'm almost afraid to ask what's in the tube.
17:15Oh, look at these guys. Are those crystals growing out of them?
17:20By the way, if you're looking to experience the story again or just grind for loot, we've added full mission and boss replay.
17:30That's right. No more save loading to run bosses.
17:34Now you can return to the arena and use Moxie's big encore machine to spawn another run.
17:39But we'll talk more about Endgame later.
17:42For now, let's jump ahead and show you something truly badass.
17:49In Borderlands 4, our bosses are bigger and better than ever, putting all your new skills, gear, and abilities to the ultimate test.
