Russian President Vladimir Putin spoke to North Korean leader Kim Jong Un ahead of the Alaska summit on August 15. The White House has described US President Donald Trump’s meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin as "a listening exercise for the president." The White House confirmed that the in-person meeting is scheduled at Putin's request. Trump also aims to meet with Putin to understand ways to end the war in Ukraine. This will be the first meeting between a sitting US and Russian president since 2021. Additionally, it will mark Putin’s first visit to the US in ten years. Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov spoke with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio regarding the preparations for the meeting. Meanwhile, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky stated that the summit in Alaska is a personal victory for Putin and that it will likely delay sanctions against Moscow. Trump is also scheduled to hold virtual talks with Zelensky on Wednesday ahead of the Alaska meeting. ---
