00:00Call think about Jordan Birch
00:01take that call you just got a
00:02sack LJ Collier was in on that
00:04sack they did all that work just
00:06to get penalized that's what we
00:08talk about the front end and the
00:10back end Russian coverage have
00:12to work together in the good and
00:13the bad Mitchell looking for
00:19running room and it's not there
00:22Cardinals did a good job up front
00:23that's on PJ muster for another
00:25name to watch here in preseason
00:27on that defensive line.
00:30And to your point we talked a
00:31lot about pass rushers is
00:32positive yes to be able to stop
00:34the run as well so muster for did
00:35a great job on the inside Jordan
00:37Birch one Russian quarterback on
00:39that one but he did a great job
00:40setting the edge as well you
00:41cannot just be one dimensional
00:43if you want to have multiple reps
00:44on this team.
01:00Cardinals rush for Zappi chased by
01:04Thomas and his pass under thrown
01:06and intercepted.
01:07It's Darren Hall with the pick.
01:10The fourth year pro takes the ball
01:12away for the Cardinals at their 43
01:14three-yard line.
01:27Talk about Russian coverage working
01:29together.
01:30Xavier Thomas did a great job
01:32affecting the quarterback and there
01:34you see Hall not only great in
01:36coverage but great getting depth in
01:38football if you're a defender if
01:39you're a linebacker a nickel a
01:40corner playing zone depth is your
01:42friend so the rush is going to do a
01:46great job making the quarterback
01:47escape.
01:48See the inside move great job by
01:49Xavier Thomas blowing up the
01:50running back Bailey Zappi is
01:51fading away but look at the depth
01:52he's about 20 yards downfield
01:54unbelievable play listening to your
01:56coaches and getting depth when
01:57there's nobody in front of you.
01:59Show Kobe Brissett back in a
02:00quarterback hands it off for
02:01Benson who gets spilled at the
02:0248-yard line with that turnover
02:03some Burroughs is giving away a
02:05free bean and cheese burrow in
02:07any other Valley locations
02:08tomorrow only with a purchase of
02:10a 20-ounce straight some Burroughs
02:12family owned since 1986 here in
02:14Hall trying to make the ball
02:16and the ball and the ball and
02:17the ball and the ball and the
02:18ball and the ball and the ball
02:19and the ball and the ball and
02:20the ball and the ball and the
02:21ball and the ball and the ball
02:22trying to make the roster as
02:23that fifth safety slash special
02:26teamer obviously Jalen Thompson
02:28Buddha Baker daydream Taylor
02:30Demerson have the first three
02:32spots locked up Joey Blount who's
02:35been around Keaton Crawford a
02:36seventh round pick out of
02:37Nevada who's looked really good
02:39and Darren Hall also competing
02:41for positions on the 53 Benson
02:44ice moves in the hole flags down
02:47and so is Benson with Johnson
02:51making the tackle for Kansas
02:52City guilty party there for
03:07Kansas City.
03:10Sammy probably at some point in
03:11your career we're in this
03:12position we were talking
03:13earlier about guys like Darren
03:15Hall who've been around they've
03:16got four years of NFL
03:18experience the wall Nichols
03:19and other guys that you know
03:21may be bubble players how do you
03:23in a regular season game what's
03:25your mindset like in that
03:26situation as a veteran as opposed
03:29to a young guy trying to make
03:30the roster well there's two
03:31thought processes and I'll let
03:34this play run Benson try to bust
03:38it to the outside no running we
03:40didn't get much help and take it
03:41down for a long the first piece
03:42is if I'm a veteran how do I help
03:44this guy make the team talk to
03:46guys like Calais Campbell Buddha
03:47Baker they're trying to help the
03:49young guys make the team the
03:50second piece is I can only do so
03:52much you're the guy that has to
03:53make the play it's a production
03:55based business and so Darren
03:56Hall you're fighting for a
03:57roster spot even if you don't
03:58make the spot on this team
04:00interceptions like that 31 other
04:02teams are watching so you might
04:03be fighting fighting for a spot
04:05for a different team so veterans
04:06try to help but the rookies and
04:08younger players have to be the
04:09ones to make the plays
04:09themselves.
04:10Fence and again and immediately on
04:17the handoff there's a defender
04:19right in the space but he's able
04:20to actually get positive yardage
04:22a nice run that time take a look
04:23at our fight for fifty three
04:25sponsored by Desert Financial
04:27Credit Union.
04:32Talk about some of those guys
04:34fighting for spots the groups to
04:35watch O-line O.L.B. and D.
04:37line we've seen some of the
04:39offensive linemen been shuffled
04:40but outside linebackers Xavier
04:41Thomas Jordan Burch that's what
04:43you're watching defensive line
04:45as well there's so much depth
04:46there so you talk about fighting
04:48for a spot these are the
04:49opportunities for something good
04:50on tape there's a screen to
04:52D. Mercado and he's got running
04:53room inside the 30 D. Mercado
04:56still going inside the 10 it's a
04:58touchdown for D. Mercado
05:07great run after the catch by the
05:19third year pro on a TCU that's
05:23green game is looking mighty
05:25pretty true pretz Petsick love
05:28drawing it up percent does a great
05:29job with his eyes and Amari
05:31D. Mercado does the rest he sets
05:33up the safety sets up the
05:34defender hurdles through another
05:36one and finds it so did the same
05:38thing in college back at TCU he's
05:40great in space and that was
05:41making a name for himself in the
05:42NFL here too in the national
05:47championship game had a big play
05:49a couple of years ago when he
05:50was with the Horned Frogs extra
05:52point makes it 14 to 10 you
05:54showed position groups one that
05:56can't talk about obviously all
05:58of them at once but running back
05:59again is a big one and that will
06:01certainly help D. Mercado's
06:02cause who was the third down back
06:04a lot last year could also return
06:06kicks SRP touchdowns for teachers
06:08give teacher grants with every
06:09Cardinals touchdown learn more
06:11at srpnet.com slash teach and how
06:13do you earn more time not just to
06:15be a third down back in your
06:16plays like that if R.D.
06:17Mercado came to the game a lot
06:18last year on third down why he's
06:20great in pass protection and he's
06:22great catching the ball out of
06:23the backfield when you start
06:24making explosive plays you start
06:26giving your offense and your head
06:27coaches a reason to put you in
06:30the football game that's how you
06:31earn more playing time look at
06:32his eyes setting up the defender
06:34using his feet using his hands
06:35but this started because he earned
06:38an opportunity third down he did
06:40something little very well what
06:41is he what do you do you block
06:42well okay put him in the game
06:44he catches well okay now you do
06:45the extra thing you do the basic
06:47thing well but do the extra even
06:49better to earn more of an
06:50opportunity so it's now 14 to 10
06:55after the touchdown for D.
06:56Mercado he had a touchdown rushing
06:58last year also at 16 catches now you
07:07see him on special teams right
07:08here we call it the L2 position
07:09let's see if he go make a tackle
07:10and this one taken on the goal line
07:22by Williams and a nice tackle
07:25like Joey Blunt there's a flag
07:27down now Blunt is a very good
07:31special teams player has been
07:35that for a few years now fourth
07:39season and we've already seen that
07:49twice you see that a lot early in
07:51preseason games have been doing a
07:53lot of live special teams in
07:54practice Santan Ford scoring
07:56drive presented by Santan Ford
07:57and Gilbert Santan Ford and the
07:59Cardinals we are Santan Ford
08:02officially 43 yard touchdown
08:04catch for Imari Di Mercado
08:09talk about the why why you're seeing
08:11some of these penalties the reason
08:13why is that yes you don't get a lot
08:15of live reps but also you're going
08:16to get against a different look that
08:18you haven't seen and so you're a
08:19little bit nervous you think okay I
08:20missed my block can I go help
08:21someone else on their block so
08:23that's when those penalties will say
08:24penalties kill returns that's what
08:27you're seeing early on it's not just
08:28the fact that you're not going live
08:29it's the fact that you haven't seen
08:31these reps from a different team
08:32a little juice in the stadium right
08:34now after that touchdown by Di
08:36Mercado and this group stepped up
08:39defensively on the last possession
08:41with the Darren Hall interception
08:43let's see if they can get the ball
08:45back for the offense again 312 to go
08:48in the half and even if you don't
08:49get an interception pass one great
08:51thing the defense can do is keep
08:53them backed up we call this the
08:54black zone back up so the crowd
08:58gets loud you're closer to the end
09:00zone if you can keep them backed up
09:02all of a sudden you force them to
09:03punt you hit the ball at the 50
09:04yard line now 10 yards you're in
09:06field goal range it's a very
09:07critical drive for the Cardinals
09:09defense Cardinals obviously play
09:13their division foes here also we'll
09:15have Carolina Tennessee Green Bay
09:19coming to town in regular season
09:22action movement by just about
09:24everybody except the center
09:32Chiefs will march back five yards
09:34well sir offense on the 72 five
09:37yards penalty go first down Kansas
09:42City will operate now from inside
09:50its eight yard line Andy Reid one
09:52of the best coaches in football
09:55you're twenty seven as a head coach
09:57five Super Bowls the last six years
09:59with three victories 15 and two
10:02record for K.C. last year Mitchell
10:04about the eleven yard line Mike
10:11Walker is trying to make the team
10:12as a backup linebacker special
10:13team on the tackle do you think
10:15when Andy Reid was let go by
10:17Philadelphia a lot of Eagle fans
10:19were happy I wonder even though
10:21they won the Super Bowl last year
10:24he's got two more I wasn't happy
10:26man I grew up kind of rooting for
10:27the Eagles a little bit I know I
10:28grew up in Dallas I loved Andy
10:30Reid I'm like why are y'all getting
10:31rid of him and no I'm not a Chiefs
10:33fan but I am an Andy Reid fan he's
10:35a phenomenal football coach
10:36certainly one of the best to do it
10:40Zappi almost throws another pick
10:42to Darren Hall he jumps around
10:44but not secure that but helping is
10:48caused by at least getting to the
10:50football the interception would
10:54have helped even more and he's
10:55mad at himself but he doesn't he
10:56has great eyes he undercuts the
10:58route Scott Morris the intended
10:59receiver so great eyes in his own
11:01coverage undercutting the route
11:03the last piece that makes people
11:05special it's intercepted the
11:06football especially talking about
11:08black zone intercepted outside
11:09those automatic points we'll get
11:11it next time a third down and 12
11:13Cardinals defense trying to get
11:15off the field a rush for to Zappi
11:18climbs the pocket on loads and it's
11:21pulled in and now they say it
11:25completed hit the round Bradley you
11:27had a great catch on the touchdown
11:29and the first quarter had to reach
11:32back for that one could not bring it
11:34in so it's fourth down that was great
11:37ball placement by Bailey Zappi he was
11:39great and out of college what looks
11:45like his hands are under the ball
11:47looks like a catch to me and if it
11:48is a catch it's going to be a first
11:51down at this it's over turning he
11:54reads us through the challenge
11:55flag we're outside of two minutes so
11:57it has to be a coach's challenge
11:58looked like a catch from that angle
12:02it did you talk about the ball
12:04placement by a Zappi but he did a
12:06better job by Brownlee coming back
12:08to the play of incomplete pass is
12:10being challenged by Kansas City
12:11and will be reviewed yeah we saw
12:26Brownlee make a great play on the
12:27touchdown so he's certainly
12:28capable of making that catch even
12:29on a throw that's behind him he
12:30juggled it but it looked like his
12:32arms were under the ball and had
12:35possession it does looks like he
12:42has control and mind you we're
12:45seeing one angle the referees they
12:47have different angles that they
12:48see that we can't see but from our
12:51vantage point pass you said it even
12:52beforehand it looked like he had
12:53control that football
13:00we're going to have to take a look at
13:05our out of town score sponsored by
13:07York Valley Toyota dealers Giants
13:11with Jackson Dart beating the bills
13:15Minnesota over Houston the Rams
13:18expected to be a factor in the NFC
13:20West over the Cowboys Jackson Dart
13:27Jackson Dart had some people were
13:28excited about Jackson Dart him and
13:30Shadur had some pretty solid showings
13:32as rookies in their first opportunity
13:34NFL Sanders started for Cleveland
13:36last night
13:38to the ruling on the field stand
13:40wow
13:41so
13:43by the language of stands the
13:45assumption is they did not have
13:47enough video evidence to overturn the
13:50ruling appeal because the ball can
13:52touch the ground if you have
13:53possession and you've got control
13:55control and that's what maybe that's
13:57what they didn't see to your point
13:58back but you didn't see the control
14:00from our advantage point I thought he
14:02had control but needs to be
14:03inconclusive and it wasn't so the
14:06Cardinals will have an opportunity now
14:08with the two-minute warning and
14:09three timeouts and assuming they get
14:11good field position where the Chiefs
14:12backed up in their own end zone for
14:14the punt
14:15that Arisa about three yards deep to
14:19boot it away
14:21and this is a huge punt DJ Dallas
14:25racing backwards he must the punt
14:27at the 21 yard line he was able to
14:30pick it up though before the big hit
14:32he kept the ball but got laid out
14:35that time by Noel Williams a 67
14:38yard punt and the Cardinals will
14:40start around their 20 that was
14:43that was special like that that
14:45punt by Matt Arisa that was
14:46different I mean usually you're
14:47backed up in your own end zone
14:48get the ball around the 50 yard
14:49line maybe 45 that ball was about
14:5265 70 yards 80 I mean it was
14:55look this keeps on going back and
14:56then Noel Williams the rookie out
14:57of Cal who was phenomenal last
14:58year when it came to intercepting
14:59the football he's trying to earn a
15:02roster spot by making tackles like
15:03that on special teams so now the
15:05Cardinals have to start from
15:07their 21 they do have plenty of
15:09time to run their two minute
15:10offense with essentially four
15:12stoppages of the clock for a
15:15setting trouble steps up and
15:17throws complete to Higgins out
15:19to the 32 yard line a first down
15:21for Arizona that will take us to
15:23the two minute warning but we'll
15:25come back the Cardinals will have
15:27the Cardinals will have the ball
15:28at their 32 three timeouts look
15:30at it take the lead guys you
15:32don't hear that often from
15:33veterans he's special meanwhile the
15:37offense on the field with two
15:38minutes to work with trailing by
15:39four the second team offense on
15:41the field to Colby Brissette
15:43throws complete to Weaver's got
15:45really good speed and he gets a
15:46first down out to the 44 yard line
15:49so 12 more yards plenty of time
15:51here the Cardinals have all their
15:52timeouts but you love to see the
15:54operation right now so Xavier
15:56Weaver gets the ball and to the
15:58referee they're taking their time
16:00a little bit but this is that
16:01these are opportunities to
16:02practice your two minute
16:03operation we talked about backed
16:04up black zone talk about red zone
16:06now's a two minute different
16:08situational football period you
16:10get a chance to to attempt
16:13the Cardinals will use their first
16:15time out after the short game
16:16clock stop at 119 left though
16:20there's an injured chief so not
16:21sure if the Cardinals would get
16:22charged a timeout here or not
16:23because of the Kansas City
16:24injury that's Deion Bush Kansas
16:27City injury so Kansas City
16:29timeout the veteran Bush in year
16:44nine out of the U Miami I he was
16:48we played together in Chicago
16:49and he's a talk about leadership
16:51yes but he's another guy who
16:54players on the Kansas City
16:55Chiefs team look to that's why
16:56you see some of his guys Mike
16:57Edwards some of those guys
16:59around him he's a he's a locker
17:01room guy he's a glue guy and
17:03he's been that way since since
17:04he was a rookie even Patrick
17:07Mahomes coming out so that to
17:09your point tells you the respect
17:12they have in the locker room
17:13for Bush sometimes we get so
17:15focused on the star players but
17:18you don't always see the guys
17:20who keep the team together now
17:22we're seeing the card coming
17:23out which is not a good time
17:26all right we'll step away back to
17:31State Farm Cardinals have three
17:32timeouts they trail by four
17:34Jacoby percent operating the
17:36offense and his Cardinal debut
17:38tenth NFL season Brissette takes
17:41a shot downfield to Weaver and a
17:44lot of contact and there comes
17:45the flag Weaver got tangled up
17:47with Johnson and that will give
17:51the Cardinals good field position
17:53inside the Kansas City 30 pass
17:54interference defense number 13
17:58first down to follow the foul so
17:59does he Johnson the guilty man
18:00let's check in with Danny
18:01rookie Hayden Connor getting some
18:02snaps at center today not a
18:03position he had a lot of
18:04exposure with and college of
18:05the offensive line coach
18:06Justin Price says Connor can
18:09already mentally handle playing
18:10one handed for half the snap
18:12prices Connor has crossed on
18:13pretty well and is getting some
18:14good exposure with these live
18:15reps here tonight and Danny
18:16important if you can play two
18:17positions assuming the Cardinals
18:19keep seven eight offensive linemen
18:21after the penalty first down on the
18:3527 the Cardinals will keep it on
18:36the ground but no running room
18:37that time as Connor was out there
18:38in space trying to free up some
18:40running room for D Mercado but
18:42it was not to be that's a great
18:43point Danny and Dave hey Connor
18:45went to Texas he played good
18:47one of the best players for the
18:48majority of his career but he said
18:51he's practice snaps every day at
18:52practice so that was getting a
18:53chance not just to practice but
18:54to play center you saw Mary six
18:55six three fifteen but he's
18:57pulling so he's a big body but
18:59he's got quick feet Cardinals
19:02keeping all their timeouts 40
19:04seconds to go second down and
19:0610 for a set pitch the Mercado
19:09over the middle and it's another
19:11first down and Jonathan Gannon will
19:13call a timeout with thirty one
19:14seconds left Mercado very sure
19:17handed we also saw him earlier
19:18what he can do with the ball in
19:19his hands on the catch and run for
19:20a touchdown Jonathan Gannon year
19:25three as the head coach for the
19:26Cardinals very good last year with
19:28clock management so he's going to
19:30do it for a touchdown Jonathan Gannon
19:34year three as the head coach for
19:36the Cardinals very good last year
19:39with clock management situational
19:41football and talking with Monte
19:43Austin Ford before the year very
19:45happy with the culture and the
19:48foundation that's been laid here
19:49by Gannon and his staff a culture
19:51is a great word a majority of the
19:53players on this Arizona Cardinals
19:54football team stayed around the
19:56facility this offseason they didn't
19:58go and train other places they
20:00wanted to be inside the building
20:02most times you see guys go and
20:03train in Texas or Florida they
20:05stayed with the facility and that
20:07means culture is building from the
20:08inside out for a set everybody
20:13covered takes off inside the 10
20:16and close to the first down as he
20:18steps out of bounds with 23 seconds
20:21to go it's going to be first and
20:23goal for the Cardinals talk about
20:25that new technology spot of the
20:26ball this is where we may get a
20:27chance to see it so that
20:29technology it may or may not come
20:30out yet but it's not based off of
20:32a chip being in the football
20:34based off of where the referee
20:35spots the ball that they have
20:37cameras around that will
20:38essentially take away the chain
20:40game at that Hawkeye technology
20:42that can get the review and the
20:46spot much quicker than having the
20:48chain game come out I saw it as a
20:50first down the Mercado getting
20:52another touch pushing forward and
20:54down to the one yard line Cardinals
21:01call another timeout and we'll
21:04leave them with one so they can run
21:06the ball again here on the second
21:07down and goal at the one if you
21:09don't get in we'll have enough
21:10time to call at last time out
21:13pass I'm asking you a question
21:15put yourself in the analyst role
21:16it's you have the one yard line
21:18second and one do you run the ball
21:20now do you pass the ball you've
21:21covered the game for a long time
21:22what do you do well I'd love to
21:24get Imari de Mercado a second
21:26touchdown I think that's why they
21:27ran it to him there so I wouldn't
21:29be surprised just hand it off to
21:30him here you got plenty of time
21:31you don't get in all time out and
21:34then you got plenty of time for your
21:36third down play agree or disagree I
21:38agree but for different reason I
21:39want to see the big bad uglies on
21:42the inside be physical instead
21:45percent will throw fires back at the
21:49end zone and a flag down it was
21:52caught by Higgins but they're going
21:53to say he was out of bounds so
21:56incomplete pass Mike Edwards in
21:58coverage again multiple flags down
22:01it's going to be on Kansas City so
22:06it's going to be an automatic first
22:08down but no touchdown holding defense
22:23number 30 surely now they'll give
22:29it to de Mercado baby right
22:32because that was like yeah it was
22:33a penalty on the defense but you
22:35lost six seconds seconds the time
22:37it's valuable in the red zone you
22:39have a timeout maybe hand it off
22:40and call it then pass it but those
22:42six seconds could prove costly if
22:45they don't get in the end zone on
22:47this play they put percent and
22:48shotgun on first down and goal from
22:50the one there's several throw back
22:54shoulder fade and it's knocked
22:56away incomplete intended for Palmer
23:00and that was Williams who got the
23:03pass break up Tajon Palmer sixth round
23:08draft pick last year out of UAB the
23:10intended target but no Williams was
23:13right there and no Williams is a
23:15stud up the I mean I covered him a
23:17lot at Cal last year he is a
23:20playmaker did he get his jersey
23:23though he is back to the ball did
23:25he get his jersey before the ball
23:27arrived I don't think it was enough
23:28to cause a penalty it was a great
23:30job people call it face guarding
23:32face guarding the receiver and then
23:34as soon as that ball see the color
23:36that receivers hands up you got the
23:38ball out great job by Williams
23:39Christian Jones back up tackle
23:42shaken up on that play Cardinals
23:44Cardinals have seven seconds left
23:48second ago low snap reset fires into
23:50the end zone and it's called in for
23:52a touchdown by Weaver that was a
23:58bullet by Brissette right to Weaver
24:06talked about Shadur Sanders shining
24:08with other Colorado Buffalo showing
24:10his stuff Xavier Watt Xavier Weaver
24:13year two out of Colorado great job
24:15with that slant route better job by
24:17Jacoby Brissette fitting that ball
24:19in there unbelievable chemistry
24:22between the year two receiver and
24:24the year 10 QB Weaver definitely in
24:28the mix for a roster spot extra
24:32point gives the Cardinals a three
24:34point lead with four seconds to go
24:36in the half obviously you've got
24:38Marvin Harrison jr Michael Wilson
24:41Zay Jones and Greg George those are
24:43your top four in receiver one guy
24:45that's not playing today the
24:47Cardinals are very high on Simi
24:48Feihoko who could play special teams
24:50as well and Weaver in the mix also
24:52but I love it you go outside that
24:54you stem in beautiful route by
24:56Weaver and he did make the 53 man
24:58roster last year as an undrafted
25:00free agent very rare for undrafted
25:02free agents to make the team so he
25:03made the initial 53 last year 6-1
25:06185 out of Colorado with plays like
25:09that it helps you to make the team
25:11again why because if you get cut
25:13other teams are watching teams like
25:14Kansas City and say man maybe I want
25:16this guy on my team if you decide to
25:17cut him the danger in releasing any
25:20player is they have to clear waivers
25:22it's not as simple as you cut a guy
25:24because you want him on the practice
25:25squad he has to clear waivers every
25:27other team has a shot to sign him to
25:28their active roster after a player is
25:31released if the player clears waivers
25:34then you can get them on their
25:35practice squad but there's a good
25:36chance Weaver won't have to worry
25:37about that the way he's played the
25:40last year plus SRP touchdowns for
25:42teachers give teacher grants with
25:43every Arizona Cardinals touchdown
25:45learn more at SRP net.com slash
25:48teach and this is smoked through the
25:57end zone so this is a touchback and
26:00we'll come out to the 35 that is the
26:03new part of the dynamic kick rule on
26:06touchbacks in the end zone they used
26:08to come out the 30 and now it'll be
26:10the 35 Santan Ford scoring drive
26:12presented by Santan Ford and
26:13Gilbert Santan Ford of the Arizona
26:16Cardinals we are Santan Ford
26:18Jacobi Brissett engineering a nine
26:20play seventy nine yard drive and the
26:22one yard touchdown strike to Weaver
26:24Chiefs will take a knee and end the
26:27half.
26:29It did not start well for the
26:30Cardinals with the turnover on the
26:31opening kickoff but they bounce
26:33back and lead by three and here's
26:34Danny with Jonathan Gannon.
26:36Coach he's coach you saw your
26:37starters for a quarter what is
26:38the biggest takeaways from them.
26:39Yeah I liked our execution I like
26:43our mode of play we're obviously some
26:47things to clean up and you need some
26:48more points there with two long
26:49drives.
26:50I thought the defense did a good job
26:51after we got the short field they
26:52scored but then we settled in play
26:53pretty good.
26:54Two touchdowns by the second team on
26:55fast.
26:56What are they doing well.
26:57I think the offensive I think the
26:58offensive line is controlling the line
26:59of scrimmage.
27:00We've got to shore up the pass
27:01protection.
27:02But we're running it pretty good and
27:03there's some good pitches and
27:04catches right there.
27:05Thanks coach.
27:06Thank you coach.
27:07the lot of adore and he was talking
27:08about how man Calais is giving him
27:10coaching tips coach depot was 27
27:11claims this 38.
27:14Clay's sat in meeting rooms on the
27:16first day of otis and just took
27:19notes and gave coach depot tips on
27:20things he can do better as well.
27:22So he's talking the players and
27:23also the coaches line drive kit.
27:25In the first day of OTAs and just
27:27took notes and gave coach depot tips
27:30on things he could be better as
27:31well.
27:32So he's talking the players and
27:33also the coaches line drive kick into
27:35the stadium.
27:36Inside the target zone between the goal line of the 20s and Royals returns it out near the 34 yard line
27:45You played with Calais Campbell you got here in 2010
27:49Calais was in his third season what kind of an impact did he have on you as you look back tremendous Calais is
27:57Hero is a big word, but when you look at the landscape of the NFL many players look up to him not just on this team
28:03But on teams around the landscape of football. He was on the all-decade team in the 2010s
28:10But he also cares about his teammates and cares about the the longevity of the league
28:15So when I think about him for me, he helped me grow. I had seven sacks my rookie year
28:19A lot of them was coming here. They were double-teaming Calais
28:21So I got a lot of one-on-ones and he taught me how to have longevity in the NFL
28:26So when I think about Calais, I think about a legacy that he's leaving that he wants to cement here in Arizona
28:32I mean, I'm so old obviously I did his games when he was here the first time
28:36But I did his games in college and obviously he towered over everybody
28:39What was so interesting was there are a lot of people that's questioned his motor coming out of Miami
28:45And that's why he went in the second round as opposed to the first round and it was clear
28:48Maybe that motivated him as Zappi completes the pass out in space for a short game
28:53Maybe that motivated Campbell
28:55But it was obvious from the first practice of training camp that motor was non-stop
29:01You don't play 18 years in the NFL at any position, especially defensive line
29:05If you do not have a motor, he certainly proved those people wrong
29:08He's still driven. I talked to Calais yesterday and you could see the fire in his eyes
29:12There was no oh, this is my last leg and she's trying to make it make it by he wants to dominate if you actually talk to Calais
29:19You may not understand everything he says
29:22But he wants to go out there and dominate and that's not just him
29:26That's helping younger guys dominate as well
29:28Zappi's pass incomplete through the hands of Tanyan with Michael Walker in coverage
29:3460-year player
29:36To make the roster as a backup linebacker and special teamer
29:39We need to get Calais on the headset, you know, I can't do a wrong Wolfley impersonation, but
29:44Calais Campbell, you know, six, eight, three hundred pounds, what you do
29:48And, you know, I'm a big-time fan, all the fame, you know, Calais
29:51I love Calais
29:53Was on the Dolphins last year
29:5528 and a half career sacks at State Farm Stadium
29:59Many of those obviously here as a member of the party
30:01So
30:02We got the punt
30:04And we were not getting a chance to return it
30:06Perhaps it sails over his head into the end zone for a touchback
30:09And we'll see if it's Jacoby Brissett
30:12The quarterback
30:13For Clayton to get in in his career in Michigan
30:16Three for touchdown
30:17Three for touchdowns
30:18He only allowed two total touchdowns at his time
30:20So he had more pick sixes than touchdowns allowed
30:23He's a star
30:23Cardinals have lost two corners to injury
30:26Sean Murphy bunting and star Thomas
30:28But they're confident in their young guys
30:30Bokelec on the catch
30:31Bokelec's been a solid player
30:34Here's the number four tight end for the Cardinals and Clayton to getting some work now third year out of
30:40Houston fifth-round pick in 2023
30:45Just two passes last year as the backup to Kyla Murray Murray played almost every snap a year ago
30:51One thing to watch out for with Clayton toon is his legs
30:56I understand you know you might look at him as a pocket passer. No, he has elite quickness in the pocket
31:06Hands it off here to Carter
31:08And Carter lunges forward for an extra yard or two
31:11It'll be interesting to see as we've talked about a number of position battles and groupings
31:20If the Cardinals keep two quarterbacks or three and the danger of keeping only two is that
31:26You may not be able to get your third quarterback through waivers to try to get him on practice squad
31:31But you have to decide as a franchise if that's a risk you're willing to take depending on how confident you are in your backup and
31:38Obviously Jacoby percent is the solid number two
31:42It may just come down to a numbers game for Clayton two minutes all said and done is that passes high and picked off at the 40-yard line
31:51Roland Wallace on the return and gets out to the 48 that was a high pass
31:58An easy pit and I don't put that one on claim to he had pressure in the pocket right up the middle right at his face
32:04And so when you have that you're unable to follow through and finish your pass
32:09You're not gonna see it right here
32:10You're gonna see the interception on the overthrow
32:13But the reason that the ball was overthrown is that there was not an opportunity right there in the middle of the pocket
32:17There was not an opportunity to step up in the pocket
32:21That's more on the offensive line than it is on quarterback Clayton two
32:25Third turnover of the day for the Cardinals
32:29And the Chiefs take over near midfield
32:31Ailey Zappi still in a quarterback play action pass
32:36Zappi in trouble and sack back at the 40-yard line but flags
32:40Birch got there again
32:41Birch got there again
32:42As we see that speed off the edge
32:46Bars key on bars was in the backfield also see what the flag is
32:52But Birch is wearing out some of these tackles in this preseason opener
32:56That's what you have to do to make a name for yourself in a crowded outside linebacker room
33:03I understand you were drafted high
33:05But you still have to prove that you belong on the field on defense
33:07And also if you do earn a spot on special teams as well
33:10There are fouls by both teams and they will offset
33:15Personal foul tripping
33:17Offense number 60
33:18Illegal contact
33:20Defense
33:21Offsetting fouls
33:22First down
33:23Boy too bad on the illegal contact
33:24Otherwise
33:26That's the second Birch sack that's been wiped out
33:28But
33:31The numbers aren't what tells the story and it's clear just
33:35Put on the film Birch is a problem
33:37And the numbers still help though I ain't gonna lie to you
33:39You have an outside lot backer you want those sacks
33:42Passed by Zappi is caught for a first down a huge hit
33:46In the secondary
33:48By Jamie Robinson
33:49Holiday did well to hold it
33:51To the first down
33:52First down
33:53First down
33:54The secondary
33:56By Jamie Robinson
33:57Holiday did well to hold on to that
33:59After the contact
34:03Close to a first down for Kansas City
34:05These safeties
34:07Are putting great stuff on tape
34:09They are showing how physical they are
34:11We understand Jonathan Gannon
34:13Jonathan Gannon is a former defensive back
34:15He was a star in high school
34:16Had an injury in college
34:18But this is what you want to show on tape
34:19You want to put fear in the eyes of
34:22Of
34:23Slot receivers
34:25Wide receivers
34:26Tight ends
34:27That if they cross the middle
34:29They will get collided with
34:30Here is a situation where the ball is placed
34:32Where it would take a long time
34:33The chain game would have to go out there
34:35Set it up
34:36And then leave the field after
34:38Now because it's being done
34:40With cameras and virtual work
34:42They can tell relatively quickly
34:45Whether it's a first down or not
34:47Based on the new technology
34:49I want to brush your bubble Dave
34:50But this seems like it's taking a long time right now
34:52There it is
34:53It's virtual
34:54I'm like come on guys like
34:55Speed it up a little bit
34:57So nine inches short
35:00Based on the virtual measurement
35:03And so it'll be second down
35:04I understand that technology
35:06You know updates every 18 months
35:08But hey this virtual measurement
35:09I expect a little bit more
35:10Quickness
35:11Maybe it's preseason for them too
35:13Well I just know if it was the chain gang
35:15Those guys would still be walking
35:16Off the field
35:17There's Rashard Smith and he gets the first down
35:32Smith rushed for over 1,300 yards at SMU
35:36Helped them get to the college football playoff last year
35:39And now trying to make the Chiefs
35:41Roster and running back
35:42He was a really really high level wide receiver at Miami
35:47Then he transferred SMU
35:49They put him at running back and he showed off his quickness and his speed
35:52But also his toughness that helped SMU have one of their best years
35:55And again bars able to get off a block and make a play at the point of attack
36:11Keon bars has been in the backfield a bunch
36:14That was downfield a couple of yards but still nice play made
36:17By the defensive lineman
36:19Great play by Keon bars shedding the blocker using his hands getting off blocks
36:23A couple plays ago it didn't count because of penalty
36:26But to your point you're putting good stuff on tape
36:29Look at him right in the middle of the field
36:31Shedding the block using one hand avoiding the blocker and making the tackle
36:35So second and eight is where you want your off your offense in if your defense
36:39Because you know it's usually a passing down
36:41First year pro out of USC
36:42On second and eight Zappi with time in the pocket now steps up
36:48Hit
36:50And finally taken down back at the 43 yard line by L.J. Collier
36:55Who was third on the team in sacks a year ago with three and a half
36:59So that tackle by bars led to this second and eight you might call it an obvious passing down
37:07Great job by Collier using his hands and we call it working half of a man
37:11He extended and then he didn't just rush down the middle
37:14But he lifted the arm of the offensive lineman flipped his hips and got into the backfield
37:19So the play before by key on bar second and eight we call it second and obvious. It was like 80% pass
37:25Let's L.J. Collier. No, they didn't have to play the run. He could work on his pass rush quicker
37:33Cardinals rush four and third and 15 again Zappi asked to step up being chased and brought down at the 40 yard line by Denzel Burke
37:43Cardinals able to get pressure with four
37:45And it's fourth and 12 and the Chiefs will try a long field goal
37:50From Harrison Butker
37:53Sick Rallis had a press conference earlier the defense coordinator for the Arizona Cardinals and he talked about the value of preseason games
38:00Because in practice you don't know if
38:03They fall forward is it a tackle for loss but now you see second and eight they're not falling forward third and 15 we're getting tackles big-time play by the defense
38:1258-yard attempt
38:14And this kid has plenty of lag and it is good
38:18Harrison Butker one of the best in the NFL and he buried that one for the date to tie it up at 17
38:24I saw him on the field before the game he was good from 63 this was 58 Harrison Butker one of the best
38:36Out of Florida State
38:39Had eight sacks in the regular season last year two and a half sacks against these Chiefs in Philly's Super Bowl 59 win
38:47And he's a relentless pass thruster
38:50When you have a 3-4 defense your outside linebackers have to dominate
38:55So you bring in Josh Sweat in order for him to dominate the line of scrimmage in the run game but also as a pass
39:00André Bocelli on the return for the Cardinals
39:03And he has brought down short of the 30-yard line
39:09Sam Sweat got a nice contract in the offseason I don't know if those were already in place before the big deal but
39:14I'm guessing those are not cheap. How much do you think those cost?
39:18I mean I'm like don't ask me I had zero
39:21When will you get yours?
39:23Next week next month
39:26Well hopefully still trying to get me a tattoo
39:29But now he's out of the booth we don't have to worry about that anymore
39:31I couldn't take his place at no no
39:34Ron Wolfley done after 20 years in the booth
39:38Of course we tried to get rid of Wolf long before then but he made it 20 years before
39:42Stepping away of course we're kidding. Love Wolf and Miss Wolf
39:47Great to be with you Sam these two games and then once the regular season starts
39:52We'll have a Q. Shepard in the game
39:54We'll have a Q. Shepard in the game
39:56We'll have a Q. Shepard in the game
39:58We'll have a Q. Shipley
40:02As the new
40:04Analyst for Cardinals football a Q. Of course
40:07Featured on Pat McAfee show does a great job
40:11AQ calling the game tonight with Paul Calvisi Paul not pictured there's a Q on the left
40:19In his Cardinals broadcast debut
40:22Clayton Toon going downfield a Weaver and it's incomplete
40:25Hit the helmet of the DB Josh Williams
40:29I was saying I could take his place on recommending you getting that tattoo
40:32But I said let me slow down on that part of it
40:35Let me leave that to Wolf
40:40AQ has a lot of passion and
40:42You do as well Sam and that's something that
40:45Obviously been asked a lot about
40:47What it will be like to have a new partner in the booth and that
40:50Every good analyst I've worked with regardless of whether it's
40:53With the Cardinals college football NBA college basketball
40:57You got to have passion for the sport and what you do and you you and AQ both certainly bring that
41:03As tunes back to throw on third and seven
41:07Being chased and to the sack back at the 24 yard line
41:13Genarius Robinson with the takedown to force a punt
41:17We talked about the offensive line battles we saw Josh Fryer playing right tackle the rookie out of Ohio State
41:23Get beat on the edge
41:25So you think about it
41:27There's only limited spots when it comes to this roster at offensive line
41:30If you're one of the guys getting beat
41:32It's not going to be to your benefit
41:34So you see Fryer right there on the edge
41:36He turns his hips too quickly
41:38Anytime you turn your hips like that
41:40It's called like opening the door opening the window
41:42And a defensive edge is going to rush right around you
41:44You want to stay square a little bit longer
41:46To make it harder for the Cavs to go around
41:49Sky Moore from the 25 yard line on the return
41:52Brought down
41:56After minimal return and the Cardinals
41:59Back out there defensively Denzel Burke special teams tackle
42:03Killset it's obvious he's putting it on display
42:06We already touched on Josh Sweat
42:09Presumably Sweat and Zayvon Collins are the starters
42:13Baron Browning has had as good a camp as anybody
42:16Player the Cardinals traded for during the season last year
42:18And then you got Jordan Burch
42:21Xavier Thomas trying to make the roster as well
42:24Zappies pass is caught for a first down by Tunyon
42:27Out near midfield before
42:29He's dropped down by Jamie Robinson
42:3121 yard game
42:33Talk about some of that depth whether it's own coverage
42:35Those are opportunities to start getting to the twos and the threes
42:37If you don't get depth the ball gets thrown over your head
42:39The running back play action for Zappie
42:43And Zappie to the sideline
42:47And a sliding catch is made inbounds
42:49By
42:51Remedio
42:52First down Kansas City
42:53Let's check in with Danny
42:54Rookie cornerback Denzel Burke and Will Johnson have received high praise from cornerbacks coach Ryan Smith who says they don't play like rookies
42:57Mostly because of their preparations
43:00With their preparation
43:02They run the ball
43:23Because of their preparation.
43:24He says they actually both remind him of Garrett Williams.
43:28In terms of how they approach the game the right way and the love they have.
43:31Smith laughed when saying that Denzel Burke is often in the building.
43:35Before the coach is already watching film.
43:37And many times also the last to leave.
43:41Over the middle of the pass incomplete down the scene.
43:43Burke is from Phoenix.
43:46Went to Brophy and finished up at Saguaro before going to Columbus.
43:50Playing for Ohio State was a fifth round pick.
43:53And again with the injuries to Murphy Bunting and Thomas.
43:58An opportunity for Burke to get some time this year.
44:00Think about this.
44:01He's taking advantage of the opportunity.
44:03As a rookie he's one of the first ones in there as Danny said.
44:06One of the last to leave.
44:08So he's soaking it all in.
44:09He's learning as much as he can.
44:11That's very valuable to learn at such a young age.
44:14You got him.
44:15You got Max Melton.
44:16Will Johnson.
44:17Garrett Williams.
44:18Who's been very good.
44:20Be in the mix as a starter.
44:22Williams will be.
44:23And then you know Keith Troll Clark and Elijah Jones who was the third round pick last year
44:27out of Boston College but was hurt.
44:29He's vying for a spot on the roster as well.
44:33So even though you lost Murphy Bunting and Starling Thomas to injuries.
44:37The Cardinals do feel good about that cornerback room.
44:40There's a lot of depth.
44:41Garrett Williams.
44:42He's a smart football player.
44:43He's a talented football player.
44:45Melton as well.
44:46There's a lot of young talent on this team.
44:49So it gives you an opportunity to build more depth.
44:51And for the younger guys.
44:52Guys like Denzel Burke.
44:54To try and earn a roster spot.
44:58Third and six for Zappi and the Chiefs.
45:00Zappi leaves the pocket.
45:05And Tanya comes free to make the catch for a first down.
45:10You almost see the impact of Jordan Burch on that play because Zappi just got out of there
45:15and ran away from him.
45:17And he wasn't even pressured.
45:18But he's been hit by Burch several times tonight.
45:20Correct.
45:21He's been hit by Burch.
45:22But there's an inside pressure right here.
45:24And so that caused Zappi to escape the pocket.
45:27Now technically if you're an inside linebacker.
45:29You're rushing.
45:30You have to be able to win against the running back.
45:32That's why you blitz an inside linebacker.
45:34You believe that linebacker can win one-on-one in blocking versus the running back.
45:38That was not a win.
45:38That was a tie which allowed the play to be made by Zappi.
45:44Zappi floats it into the end zone and overthrown.
45:47Going for Remigio with Petro Clark.
45:50Another player that is fighting for a roster spot in the corner.
45:54Sixth round pick a couple years ago out of Louisville.
45:56Played a lot as a rookie.
