Camelford boss Bobby Hopkinson on Tuesday night's 1-0 victory over Sticker
Transcript
00:00Right. We're here with Camelford boss Bobby Hopkinson after tonight's South West Peniture
00:04League victory over Sticker. Bobby, a second win from two as Camel's boss. What did you make of the
00:10evening? Well, two wins from two, six points. I set the challenge to the boys, seven points over
00:20three games. I think we go into the Butte game on Saturday. With that, hopefully, task,
00:28you know, looking likely. The challenge now is three out of three to give that momentum
00:35going into the discard game on Tuesday, the following week. Frustrating game, but we said
00:43to the lads at halftime, you know, we've got to overcome some issues. You know, the frustrating
00:49thing about whether you can say it or not, the referees' decisions made for or against
00:55us. It's just frustrating for both teams. I feel a little bit sorry for Sticker in some
01:03ways because some of the decisions that went against them and certainly they could have
01:08had two penalties, we could have had a penalty. It was just a weird game, you know, but we come
01:17away with three points and our lads did us proud of them.
01:23And at halftime, obviously, like you say, the first half was particularly scrappy. What
01:29was said at halftime to try and sort of change the momentum and get that bit of spark into
01:33it?
01:34There's no point going and shouting the ball in because, you know, players nowadays,
01:37you know, they don't like that. You know, we try to give them some confidence, some little
01:41tips. Something so simple as, you know, a centre half not trying to get so tight to their striker,
01:47let him have the ball and let him play backwards. You know, let him have a touch on the ball because
01:53his touch sometimes wasn't great, which allowed us then to get the second ball and then, you
02:00know, attack from there. It was hard to pick points really in that game because there was
02:09no flow. It was stop, start. And I just said to the lads, look, we've got to just keep going,
02:17you know, dig something out that, you know, that will get us the three points.
02:23And obviously you got that in the last couple of minutes of a brilliant goal from Ryan and
02:27I guess that's why you brought him back to the club for moments like that.
02:29Listen, Ryan's a superb player. I've taught him from a young age and had the privilege of
02:36watching him develop as a footballer, but not just a footballer, but a young lad into a man.
02:44He works for me, so it's a little bit more personal there, but on the same respects,
02:48he's a match winner. You know, I brought him to Liscard when I was with Liscard, with Gilby,
02:52you know, things didn't work out there, but he's a game winner. I said to my, I said to Dan
02:59Bolston, when Ryan got Simbin there, you know, for asking the referee a question that should have
03:05been a foul to Ryan and he was just frustrated. I said, Dan, that's won us the game. I said,
03:10because Ryan will come on now and he's got a point to prove. And he certainly did that. His goal was,
03:17you know, was incredible. We tried to play into Ryan's feet to then let him to turn and get the
03:21shots away. And he did that. As soon as he's got to his feet and around the box, it's scary what he
03:26can do. And he's only just getting into a rhythm. And as soon as we start getting a Saturday,
03:32Tuesday, Saturday, Tuesday, what we've got coming now, he's only going to get better with games and
03:38more game time.
03:40And obviously, like you say, that leads into Saturday at home to Bud. Obviously, I think
03:44they've only played, well, once at this stage. Obviously, they're in action again tomorrow
03:47against Cannington, but what sort of game are you expecting against Bud? You know, Bud are always
03:52hard working. They're hard to break down. They're honest. You know, I think I'm happy we're playing
04:00them here on our third game in. It'll be a different game if we're playing them at their place. You know,
04:06it's hard to go to Bud to win, but I'm happy we're playing them here at home while the pitch is decent.
04:12And hopefully we can, you know, put another good performance in to, you know, get the three
04:18points and go into, like I said, go into the list guard game with nine points, hopefully.
04:24You know, and a good rhythm.
04:25And you had a few out tonight for various reasons. Are you hoping to have some more
04:30availability this Saturday?
04:31Well, you know, you come across the season and you're going to have players coming in and out.
04:35You're going to have people going on holiday, you know, your families. I've certainly got a young
04:39family and, you know, I'll be a hypocrite if I turned around and said, you know, don't go on
04:43holiday this and here. I think people have got to live as well, as well as enjoy playing football.
04:49And, you know, we've got Watsy's away on holiday. He's a teacher. So the only time he can go on
04:55holidays is school holidays. And we've got TC who's away on, he's working away. So who's our captain.
05:02So, but on the, on the same respects is the lads, you know, get opportunities to, to fulfill their
05:08places and, and, and do jobs. You know, we had, we had can be good away on, on, on Saturday, little
05:15Joe Parr. Oh, sorry, 10 days ago, Joe Parr came in 16 year old, you know, scored on his debut,
05:22set assisted on his debut, and he warranted a start tonight. So players have got to understand,
05:27you know, you go away on holiday, give a bit of the people the opportunity to play. And if they,
05:31if they do the job, you know, they keep the spot. But what an impact can be good at on,
05:36you know, tonight, I came on great attitude. And he's, he's, he's running with the ball in his,
05:43his feet, you know, it's hard, it's hard to mark him. So yeah, so, so it's positive.
