Wadebridge skipper Kelvin Snell on Wednesday night's WT Edwards Cup final victory over St Just.
Transcript
00:01Okay, so we're here with Weybridge skipper Kelvin Snell after the Swans have won their first ever Edwards Cup with a nine-wicket victory over St. Just.
00:09Kelvin, a historic evening for Weybridge.
00:12Yeah, one that means a lot to the club, to be honest with you.
00:16They've been in it twice before and obviously never won it.
00:20And tonight we've managed to put in another solid performance to make some little bit more history for the club.
00:25At the moment, we called it a little golden era for the club the last five or six years and long may it continue.
00:33Okay, obviously St. Just won the toss.
00:36You guys got three early wickets but they were flying along at 103 for three in the 13th over.
00:42What were the thoughts then and how proud were you with the comeback?
00:44Yeah, at that stage I thought we had a good start as well.
00:47And then obviously Philip Nicholas and Shammy, they put a little partnership on.
00:52And then we managed to get one of them and then through Elliot Dunn, it was an outstanding spell of bowling.
00:57But at that one other stage I thought we were going to probably be chasing 160, 170.
01:02So the little fight back there to keep it under 110, I was so proud. It was brilliant.
01:07Okay, and what was the chat at halftime?
01:09The chat at halftime comes from me is just be selfish.
01:13Have someone take it upon themselves to get all of them.
01:16Don't let anyone else come in.
01:18We lost one wicket, fair enough.
01:19But that was the thing. Be selfish. Don't let anyone else have a go.
01:23Yeah, and you mentioned about what it means to the club.
01:25Obviously the club have risen so far in the last few years.
01:28How proud are you and obviously what are the goals now for the rest of the season?
01:32So I've come to the club six years ago and I wouldn't say we were in trouble.
01:38But it was like a start of something new.
01:40Myself, Matt Robbins and now Matt Rowe and just keep the players that are already there.
01:46Turpin, Wilson, the McLaughlins.
01:48It's one of the people in the club when I turned up said,
01:52not many people come to Weybridge.
01:54But when you come to Weybridge, no one leaves.
01:56And that will stick with me for the rest of the time I play cricket.
01:59And for the rest of the season, we can only just keep winning games of cricket
02:03and keep trying to pile pressure on Penzance.
02:05And let's see what happens come in eight weeks' time.
02:08And obviously you've got the finals day now on August 3rd at Bridgewater.
02:12How do you go about preparing for that?
02:14That's a great question.
02:17It'll be one we look forward to again.
02:19We'll give it our all.
02:22Apart from that, I couldn't answer that right now,
02:25but I just know we'll be looking forward to it
02:26and we'll be going to Bridgewater with lots of determination
02:30and try and do Cornwall proud.
02:32And then obviously you mentioned the league there.
02:34You've got your level on points with Penzance at present
02:37heading into Saturday's trip to Helston.
02:39How excited are you to be in the title race
02:42and obviously now on for sort of a treble as well?
02:45Yeah, it's always good.
02:45Always good to be in there and in there around it.
02:49Boys are playing some good cricket at the moment.
02:50We had a little stumble a few weeks back where we lost two and three.
02:54But we've come out of that
02:55and now this is the period that we need to keep piling on the wins
02:59and see what happens, as I said, come eight weeks' time.
03:02If we're there, we're there.
03:03If we're not, then we give it a good go.
03:06Okay, and then what are you expecting from Helston themselves?
03:08Helston will be one difficult game.
03:09They are one team that have already beaten us this season.
03:11Give us a good hammering, to be honest with you.
03:13So we're not going down there with any...
03:15I think it's going to be an easy game.
03:16We're going down there expecting a tough one.
03:18And if we play our best cricket,
03:20then we're going to be there or thereabouts.
