A tariff relief package of credit and loans is on the way for Taiwanese business owners based overseas as the U.S. imposes fresh duties on countries around the world.
Transcript
00:00The government has a plan in place to help domestic businesses weather U.S. tariffs.
00:05But there are still lots of Taiwan-owned businesses abroad that need help too.
00:09Now there's a plan in the works to help them stay afloat.
00:12The Overseas Community Affairs Council, or OCAC, has met with Taiwanese business people based around the world.
00:19And it's found most have one thing in common, a need for financing, as tariffs force them to shift the layout of their investments.
00:26So, the council's teamed up with Taiwan's Overseas Credit Guarantee Fund to make getting that cash easier.
00:32We want to increase the $200,000 to $300,000.
00:38At the same time, we have a $30,000,000 plan for the last year,
00:47whether it's a month, or two months, or a month, or a month, or a month, or a month,
00:52or a month, or a month.
00:55We want to be able to provide these related information information,
00:59to prove that it's because of the impact of financing,
01:02and it's caused by the $10,000.
01:06There are further perks too, including some help with covering interest and processing fees.
01:11Many of the businesses facing the squeeze are small to medium-sized,
01:15and those that get approved for both kinds of relief can have a few million dollars to cushion the impact of tariffs.
01:21First of all, from the perspective of banks, is that the council guarantees 90% of the loans, lowering risk.
01:27But there are limits to this relief program.
01:30The $300,000 loan, for instance, will only be offered for one year.
01:34And there are also rules about which overseas companies can get tariff relief.
01:39The Taiwanese business people based in Southeast Asia and Latin America,
01:43sitting on either side of these officials, express hope about the plan,
01:47as a means to deal with deep uncertainty in the U.S., one of their big export markets.
01:52The relief program is set to start in September.
01:53And while U.S. tariffs will bite, especially in the U.S.,
01:54especially in the U.S.
