00:00I think we can retire this thing that we do with Brock Purdy.
00:05Okay, so he's not Lamar, Patrick, Josh, or Joe Burrow.
00:11Yeah, we know.
00:12Nobody is.
00:14Those are the four best quarterbacks in the game.
00:17And I would argue that even though it's only been one year,
00:21we're damn near being able to go ahead and make Jaden Daniels the fifth one.
00:25So we don't need to do this like, is Brock a top five quarterback thing?
00:32I don't even know if it's relevant.
00:34I don't know if it matters.
00:36Somebody outside the top five won the Super Bowl last year.
00:39Yeah.
00:40So what?
00:41It's all nonsensical to me.
00:44You're only as good as your team.
00:47You're only as good as your coach, your scheme, your defense, the rest of it.
00:51And you mentioned it right there.
00:53Jalen Hurts.
00:54He's not a top five guy.
00:56Who cares?
00:57He won the Super Bowl.
00:58They won the Super Bowl because their coach,
01:01even though he might be annoying in many ways,
01:04and this is big dumb, and whatever else about Philly,
01:08they had an amazing ground game.
01:10They had two very good receivers, a great tight end, and a nasty defense.
01:14They won the Super Bowl.
01:15They took Patrick Mahomes' soul.
01:18So Jalen Hurts is not a top five quarterback?
01:21Fine.
01:21Who gives a crap?
01:22He's got a ring.
01:24And Allen, you don't.
01:26Burrow, you don't.
01:28And we can go all the way down the list of guys who don't.
01:31Lamar, you don't.
01:33I mean, you've got an MVP, and you're an amazing football player,
01:36but you can't even get to the Super Bowl.
01:38Yeah, Lamar and Josh haven't even been.
01:39Right.
01:40And they've had that game.
01:42Like, they've had that game.
01:44Yeah.
01:44At home.
01:45They've had that game.
01:46I'm not trying to shut down the convo because I do think it's always interesting to compare
01:50A to B and B to C, but sometimes I just get, like, top five quarterback fatigued.
01:56And sure, Jalen Daniels, you might be the next guy to be the guy, but ultimately in this sport,
02:03you've got to get to the last game in February and win the damn thing.
02:07Well, and again, like, what I find repetitive about this whole thing,
02:11and the reason I feel like it's repetitive, is because it doesn't seem to really resonate
02:16with a lot of people.
02:17Let's go back to the mere idea that, oh, well, Brock Purdy's only good when you surround him
02:22with superstars.
02:24And that's still out there.
02:25Okay, let's do Jalen Hurts.
02:28How'd that go last year?
02:30Let's see, I had A.J. Brown on my left.
02:32I got Devontae Smith on my right.
02:33I got Saquon Barkley behind me for 2,000 yards.
02:38One of the best running back seasons in history.
02:40Correct.
02:41I've got an absolute, like, not just a plus offensive line.
02:45I've got an offensive line that changed the game.
02:49They made up a play and changed the game.
02:52I've got Dallas Goddard as my tight end.
02:55I've got an amazing pass rush on the defensive side.
02:58And at no point have I heard, maybe it happens in Philly,
03:02but I've not heard people go, you know, and Jalen Hurts is not a first-round draft pick.
03:07I've not heard this whole, like, well, that only works when you surround him
03:12with uber-duper super talent.
03:15And then here's the other thing that I think breaks that whole thing down.
03:19All right, let's go to last year.
03:20Now, the season cratered.
03:22It was an awful year.
03:24I think all of us could come up with a list of six or seven reasons why.
03:28But I can remember, just as one example, I can remember before the year,
03:34you know, you would bring up Juwan Jennings.
03:36And I'm like, third and Juwan?
03:38I'm like, I love Juwan Jennings.
03:40But that guy can only get about, you know what I mean?
03:42Like, he can get you seven yards on third and five.
03:45He's not going to get downfield and be a 1,000-yard receiver.
03:48However, poof, yes, he is.
03:52Well, okay, we're not going to mix words over 20 yards.
03:56He had an incredible year.
03:58Now, who was his quarterback?
04:00Is he now uber-super-duper talented?
04:04Or can players take a huge step around Brock Purdy?
04:12Often with the help of Brock Purdy.
04:15Like, I don't know.
04:17I just, it's like, when you win the Super Bowl, yeah, you've got good players.
04:21So there's just all these things that I see, and it's not just Brock.
04:24But we point towards quarterbacks and use things to slight them.
04:29Oh, they run the system.
04:30Oh, they've got good teammates.
04:32These are not slights.
04:34Those are good things.
04:35That means your organization is healthy.
04:37If they run a good system and have good teammates,
04:40that means someone in the front office is doing their job.
04:43And then they have to take the baton and do something with it.
04:47And a lot of those quarterbacks around the league, from Brock to Jared Goff to Jalen Hurts,
04:52I'd argue to a degree, a Baker Mayfield from last year, for example.
04:58And there are probably others I'm not thinking of right now who are not those top five guys.
05:04But you damn well better believe that on the right scenario,
05:08they can be someone who picks up a baton and takes you to the finish line.
05:14Absolutely.
05:16And that's like, I don't know, that's the deal, right?
05:19That is the deal.
05:20That's what they're all trying to do.
05:21And if you look at Jalen Hurts last year, he didn't even pass for 3,000 yards.
05:26And that might be the lowest total in the past 25 or 30 years from a quarterback who went on to win the Super Bowl.
05:33So did Jalen Hurts have to go out there and light it up by himself with his arm in the passing game?
05:39Of course not, because they had a great running game, they had a great defense, and it's complimentary football.
05:44So we do get stuck on this whole idea of, you know, where does Brock Purdy rank among the quarterbacks?
05:52Well, only this year especially.
05:54He has to go out there and be good enough with what he has around him to win football games.
05:59And, you know, you mentioned the George Kittle sound, and, you know, we're going to hear it here coming up about, you know, the schedule and all the rest of it.
06:06The easy schedule.
06:07Yeah, I'd like to hear it because I do think the schedule's easy, but it doesn't mean that they're going to go 16-1.
06:12All right, we'll do that in exactly five minutes, okay?
06:14George Kittle, the situation in five minutes.
06:16But I'm just sitting here thinking of a list, a list of guys who I would say, like, fine, they're not great.
06:23They're not great, but is good, good enough.
06:27I mean, there's a list around the league.
06:30I just mentioned a few of them.
06:32Let's start with Purdy.
06:33Let's go Jared Goff.
06:35Let's go Justin Herbert.
06:38Let's go C.J. Stroud.
06:40I think Bo Nix is on the way.
06:42Jordan Love.
06:42Let's do Jordan Love.
06:44Absolutely good call.
06:45How about Dak Prescott?
06:47How about Tua Tunga-Vailoa?
06:49Like, these are people who have big money, a lot of them.
06:53Is Trevor Lawrence even in that group?
06:55I mean, jury a little out there.
07:00Big year for him this year.
07:00It's a huge year for him this year.
07:03A monstrous year for him this year.
07:06But these are all guys who I would say, you're not threatening anybody's top five list.
07:11But a lot of you are making north of $50 million, and you're all throwing a lot more touchdowns than picks.
07:20You're all winning a lot more games than you lose.
07:22Baker Mayfield, I forgot, throw him back in there again.
07:25Like, yes, thumbs up.
07:28Thumbs up, yay team.
07:30I like that guy.
07:31I want that guy to be the quarterback of my team, provided that I don't have an opportunity
07:37to grab one of the absolute stud superstars of the league.
07:42And there's always only a couple of those.
07:45Yes, but even if you have one of those absolute stud superstars of the league,
07:49it doesn't mean you're going to win the Super Bowl.
07:51Damn right.
07:51And you can look at Eli Manning as a great example.
07:54He was never, I think, among his peers seen as the absolute stud superstar of the league.
08:00But he won two Super Bowls because he was on teams that played complementary football.
08:05They ran it.
08:06They played good defense.
08:08He made plays in January and February, and you win the Super Bowl.
08:10And so that's where I look at Philadelphia last year.
08:13Jalen Hurts didn't even get 3,000 yards passing, and yet they won the Super Bowl.
08:18Does that mean that he's not a good quarterback?
08:21No, he's perfect for what they're trying to do.
08:23And that's where we get to the Brock Purdy conversation.
08:25And I think about Brock in this offense and what Shanahan needs him to do
08:31and what this offense really relies on, and it fits Brock Purdy to a tee.
08:36So if you want to take Brock Purdy in a vacuum, he might be the 15th best quarterback in football
08:41based on skills and whatever numbers or whatever you want to rank it based on.
08:47But the fit that he has with this team, the Shanahan system, the ability to make the right decision,
08:53to read and react, to execute the play fakes and all the rest of it,
08:58he might be one of the elite quarterbacks based on fit.
09:02Sometimes I like to play a game of what would we do if our quarterback did that?
09:07You ever do that?
09:08Yeah.
09:09What if Brock Purdy had a 24-7 lead at halftime in the NFC title game and didn't win?
09:16What if Brock Purdy had wide receivers reading books on the sideline during games?
09:22What if Brock Purdy suffered multiple primetime NFL game concussions to where his hands are locking up?
09:35What if Brock Purdy was somebody who got chased by police and arrested in college?
09:40What if Brock Purdy made $55 million a year and had essentially never made the playoffs?
09:52I mean, these are all things that we can say about a lot of these other B-plus level quarterbacks in the NFL.
