00:00And then what do you think is the solution next? Because, A, the Democrats from Texas can't stay in these states until midterms. And B, if I know Governor Newsom has said that he would redistrict. I know other blue state governors like Kathy Hochul, like Governor Pritzker, have said that redistricting isn't off the table. I mean, what do you want to see next here?
00:22I hope that those California Republicans and Illinois Republicans and Maryland Republicans and New York Republicans turn to Speaker Mike Johnson and to Donald Trump and say, let's just cut this out.
00:34And I think that would be the ideal outcome would be for there to be no more gerrymandering and for those Republican members to tell Donald Trump that he's got to try to win the election fair and square because Donald Trump doesn't have a plan for winning the upcoming midterm elections.
00:48He's trying to pass this plan to rig those elections. We can't let him do it.
00:53I think the next steps are for those brave Texas Democrats to continue to buy us time while we go and pressure those blue state Republicans to go talk to Donald Trump.
01:04And do you think that pressure campaign's working? I'm thinking of, like you said, Republicans in blue states like the Mike Lawlers in Congress. What do those conversations look like?
01:13I think that those Republicans that are in New York or in California or in Maryland need to go talk to Donald Trump and let him know that what Donald Trump is doing in Texas could very well cost them their seats.
01:30And so they've got to decide whether they're going to stand up for their district, for their constituents, for their work, or whether they just carry daddy Donald Trump's water.
01:39I think that's the question that confronts them.
01:41And Congressman, I know you're saying that this is a national problem.
01:45You are sounding the alarm here saying this doesn't just stop in Texas, but I can imagine that you've thought about your seat here in your district because this map essentially slices out your district.
01:56I mean, what are you specifically doing next? How are you feeling?
01:59Merging my district with my fellow Democratic congressman's district here in Austin isn't really just about me or about any other member of Congress.
02:11It's about our voters. Voters in Austin, Texas deserve their full representation.
02:17They don't deserve a gerrymandered map that's being imposed on them from the White House.
02:23At the end of the day, my district is a voting rights protected district.
02:29The Supreme Court determined that Latinos here in Central Texas deserve to have full representation.
02:36But if Donald Trump is allowed to suppress the votes of communities of color and working class people here in Austin,
02:43he'll want to spread that plan across America.
02:45And so this stand is not about me. It's not about my career.
02:49It's about the voters here in Central Texas and the right of voters across the country to pick their elected officials and not have their elected officials use basically racial districting redlining to suppress your voice.
