00:01Previously on Project Runway...
00:03Welcome to season 16 of Project Runway!
00:08You should always be expecting the unexpected.
00:13This season you will be working with models of all sizes.
00:16I'm super nervous I might have to work with a plus size model.
00:21I would never have been able to predict this.
00:24Indeed.
00:25Deontay, congratulations, you are the winner of this challenge.
00:34Cha Cha, the construction really was a mess.
00:37I'm sorry, that means you're out.
00:51You in the top, how was it out there?
00:52Congratulations.
00:53I won the first challenge.
00:55I've kind of set the tone for the competition.
00:57So I'm really excited.
00:58I'm just glad that I'm still here.
01:00Yeah, girl.
01:01We are too.
01:02Yes.
01:03Being at the bottom is not a good feeling.
01:05And so moving forward, I'm thinking, you know, I have to really show me.
01:10Oh, guys, get over here.
01:13Oh, my God, girl.
01:15Good morning, designers.
01:16I'm providing you with some protective gear because...
01:19For your next challenge, you're going to get down and dirty.
01:22There's no time to waste.
01:24Go meet Tim and a special guest.
01:26To find out more.
01:27XOXO Heidi.
01:28Oh, no.
01:29Oh, we got to get down and dirty.
01:31Oh, man.
01:32Let's do it.
01:33This is going to be good.
01:39Oh, no.
01:40We walk in and it's a giant recycling center.
01:43Oh, my God.
01:44Oh, no.
01:45It smells terrible and I'm wondering what we're going to do.
01:48Oh, like a kitty.
01:49Hi.
01:50Welcome to Royal Waste Services, one of the largest recycling facilities in New York City.
01:56Wow.
01:57And please welcome our very special guest and very dear friend, Anne Fullenwider, editor-in-chief of Mary Claire Magazine.
02:03All right.
02:04Welcome, Anne.
02:05Thanks, Tim.
02:06I'm so excited to be here with you and I'm really excited to tell you about your next challenge.
02:10The fashion industry has a huge impact on our planet and now more than ever, we at Mary Claire are focused on sustainability.
02:17The dress I'm wearing is made of 100% recycled trash.
02:21I love the idea of sustainability.
02:24I know that fast fashion is one of the biggest contributors to pollution.
02:28So this is your first unconventional materials challenge.
02:32For this challenge, it is your job to not only recycle and reuse, but also restyle.
02:37So you will be transforming the recycled goods all around you into high fashion looks.
02:44But there's a very important detail.
02:48This is your first team challenge.
02:51Yay!
02:52All right.
02:53Our first team member of team one is Kudzinai.
02:56Our second member is Michael, Cantaro, Deontay, and Margarita.
03:03Team two begins with Aaron, Botany, Brandon, Kenya, and Ayana.
03:12So team three is Santel, Samantha, Amy, Claire, and Sean.
03:18So we have our teams.
03:19Yeah!
03:20And let me stress that even though you're working with everyday recycled materials, your designs should not look everyday.
03:26They should look high fashion.
03:28You'll only have one day for this challenge.
03:30You will need to use your time strategically.
03:33I have one more exciting announcement.
03:35The winning look will be featured in a spread in Marie Claire magazine in a story about sustainability.
03:41Oh, yeah!
03:42I want to win this challenge on conventional materials, in a team challenge, and a magazine spread all rolled into one.
03:48I'm ready.
03:49On Ann's signal, you'll have five minutes to gather as many materials as you can with your recycling bins.
03:55Is everybody ready?
03:56Yes!
03:57Your time starts now.
04:02Watch out, watch out.
04:05It's pandemonium.
04:07Everybody's rushing to the same piles and the same trash.
04:10Here's my can.
04:12One minute, everyone.
04:14One minute.
04:15I'm grabbing plastic.
04:16This tray cover is just little things that I can add detail with.
04:20All right, everyone.
04:21Time is up.
04:22Designers, that's it.
04:24These other animals.
04:28That was a workout for the day.
04:29I'm good.
04:30Whew.
04:31Where are we at?
04:32Over here.
04:33Over here.
04:34Oh, it's so smelly.
04:35It's like Easter threw up in here.
04:36Good heavens.
04:37Wow.
04:38All right.
04:39We have our three design teams, and each team of five,
04:44we have our three design teams, and each team of five,
04:49we have our three design teams.
04:54We have our three design teams, and each team of five,
04:58we'll be creating a five-look mini collection.
05:02You have until 10.30 tonight, so work like there's no tomorrow.
05:08You have a model card inside your sketchbook.
05:11You all have a new model this challenge,
05:14and we will continue to rotate the models,
05:16so you'll all have the opportunity to work with models of different sizes.
05:20I will be back later to check in with you,
05:23but do remember cohesion within the team.
05:26Have fun.
05:27All right, thank you.
05:31What a great group.
05:32Nice.
05:33Yeah.
05:34Uh-huh.
05:35Guys, here.
05:37This is mine.
05:38Yes, let's definitely pick a theme.
05:40This is a thrift store where I live.
05:41It's called Uptown Cheapskate.
05:42Okay.
05:43So maybe you play on something like that,
05:45because it is trash.
05:46Cheap upscale or upscale cheap means that, like,
05:48you're balling on a budget.
05:50This is like...
05:51Falling on a budget.
05:52Falling on a budget.
05:53That's our theme.
05:54All right, our theme is falling on a budget.
05:55That's my motto.
05:56There you go.
05:57You did it.
05:58Hey, man.
05:59Love you guys.
06:00Our cohesive look is we're telling a story.
06:02Some kind of Japanese tale of modern,
06:05yet still very fashion-forward.
06:07Yeah, let's talk to you.
06:08All right, let's do it.
06:09Okay.
06:10And then if we did something like this,
06:11and something that we did...
06:13I was thinking more like translucent
06:15and very fluid-like.
06:17But it can't look like a hefty bag
06:18at the end of the day.
06:19Of course.
06:20Resort.
06:21Okay, I like that.
06:22We're gonna go with resort.
06:23We're going with sea glass and translucent
06:25to tie the whole collection.
06:30Samurai.
06:31That would be cool.
06:32You know, Japanese.
06:33That would be really cool.
06:34Brandon, your fabric looks killer, dude.
06:36You liking it?
06:37Yeah.
06:38You're elevating that fabric to another way.
06:39Yeah.
06:40What I want to do,
06:41because I'm really fast at braiding and weaving,
06:43is taking these, twisting them
06:44so they don't look like plastic bags.
06:46I like that.
06:47How about we look at braids as the idea?
06:48Okay.
06:49Then we'll each go work.
06:50I am not vibing with the direction
06:53that our team is going.
06:54They're telling me this is what we're doing,
06:56and I'm saying, okay, I guess.
06:58Okay.
06:59What am I doing?
07:00It's hard to have to start,
07:01because I'm starting to freak out.
07:03I'm nervous about this challenge
07:05because I am a modest designer,
07:07and I want to show that to the judges.
07:09This is so messy.
07:11The only thing that I'm seeing is clear plastic,
07:14so you will be able to see straight through it.
07:16The time is just moving so fast.
07:18I don't know.
07:19I don't know.
07:20I haven't figured it out yet.
07:21Last week I was in the bottom.
07:23Now I have the triple whammy
07:25of a team challenge, a unique material challenge,
07:28and my first time working with a plus size model.
07:31So I'm just, I'm really overwhelmed right now.
07:37Let's not overthink it.
07:38Let's not overthink it.
07:39I just, I'm terrified of the shame of failing.
07:46Coming up on Project Runway.
07:48Oh!
07:49She seems kind of stressed out.
07:51You planned beautifully.
07:52Good.
07:53I'm crazy about this.
07:54This is not going to help you.
07:56Hallelujah!
07:58It was utter elegance.
07:59This is what this show is about.
08:01I don't think there's a single fashionable shape there.
08:03You really need to change your perspective.
08:05It's like a leprechaun went dumpster diving.
08:07Wow.
08:08I can't stand stuff that isn't fabric.
08:22The challenge is to create high-end fashion
08:25made from recycled materials,
08:27and the prize is a spread of Marie Claire
08:30about sustainable fashion.
08:32What if instead of this, you brought it like this?
08:35Okay.
08:36Yeah, that looks sexier.
08:38Yeah, exactly.
08:39My individual plan is to stick with the color scheme
08:42and stick with the braided cord idea.
08:45I don't have the correct materials to make what I want,
08:48to make this full-length modest dress.
08:50You know, I need to make this work.
08:52And then a top that's similar.
08:55Um, yeah.
08:59I'm really concerned with Shawn.
09:00She keeps redesigning her look.
09:03She seems kind of stressed out.
09:06Is there anything we can do?
09:07We just need to get it done fast.
09:09I'm just frustrated because we are all a team,
09:13and the burden's on all of us.
09:17Honestly, I love what you do.
09:19I think it's super cool.
09:20Thanks.
09:21Growing up Muslim and wanting to be fashionable,
09:24I found that there is a shortage
09:26in trendy, modest clothing.
09:29I'm definitely trying to break the barrier
09:31and show women that you can still be Muslim,
09:34you can still be modest,
09:35but still be current and trendy and fashion-forward.
09:38Ah!
09:39What's our team name?
09:40We were just talking about it.
09:41Can you talk about it?
09:42Samurai?
09:43Samurai?
09:44How about Wabi Sabi?
09:45Wabi Sabi?
09:46What does that mean?
09:47Is that Japanese, like, you know,
09:48finding beauty out of something very simple?
09:51It's difficult to explain.
09:53It's, like, very deep.
09:55And it's art, but kind of going into, like,
09:58you know, connecting with universe.
10:00All right, team, that's good.
10:01Wabi Sabi.
10:02Wabi Sabi.
10:03Now I want sushi.
10:04Yum!
10:05We also need a team name.
10:08Yeah.
10:09Do you have any ideas?
10:10Uh...
10:11I mean, we're trying to work on the ocean,
10:12water, resort.
10:13Okay, um...
10:14Team Tsunami?
10:15Wait.
10:16Yeah.
10:17Love it.
10:18I love it.
10:19Let's check with the other two.
10:20Let's go.
10:21Good heavens.
10:24How are you all doing?
10:25Uh...
10:29All right, team Tsunami.
10:30Tell me what you're doing.
10:31So we decided to do a resort collection.
10:33We're each doing a look.
10:34Okay.
10:35And our cohesion is being built from sharing elements.
10:36Okay.
10:37With these CD cases.
10:38Braiding.
10:39And braiding.
10:40You're braiding the plastic.
10:41Samantha, this is you?
10:42Yeah.
10:43I mean, it's really been transformed.
10:44Talk to us.
10:45This is gonna be open down the center.
10:47And then this will be braided to...
10:49I mean, I'm looking at the vibe of Amy's.
10:52Mm-hmm.
10:53And I'm looking at your vibe.
10:54Mm-hmm.
10:55They feel like very different customers.
10:56Think about the threads of DNA that can connect these somehow that make us believe it's the
11:04same person.
11:05Santel?
11:06So I'm doing an off-the-shoulder bustier.
11:09For the neckline, I was thinking of doing the braided kind of vibe.
11:13And I'm gonna use this as like a jump ring.
11:15What are you doing on the bottom?
11:16I was thinking a pair of shorts.
11:17What would you make them out of?
11:19Yeah, I'm not sure.
11:21You have a lot of resources here that can really move you forward.
11:25So, Sean, what are you doing?
11:26I wanted to do more of a shapely bodycon.
11:30Where is it?
11:31In pieces?
11:32It's in pieces.
11:33Of course.
11:34I don't want to envelop her in these stiff fabrics.
11:39Right.
11:40Because you don't want to be on the bottom.
11:42No, certainly not.
11:43And not again.
11:44No.
11:45Indeed.
11:46Indeed.
11:47How is team wabi-sabi?
11:50We're coming together.
11:51We're coming together, Tim.
11:52How are you approaching this?
11:53So the basic idea behind our collection is a Japanese garden being taken over by samurais.
11:59Okay.
12:00With kind of this textile that I created, these plastic films.
12:03And I'll curl them so that it mimics a feather.
12:05Okay, so is that the effect it will have?
12:08Yes.
12:09Oh, all right.
12:10So in the newspaper, we just washed it out with a little bit of white.
12:13And then this I kind of covered with vinyl just to give it a little sheen.
12:17It's so disparate.
12:19Mm-hmm.
12:20Here I see a Japanese Mad Max.
12:22And here I see 1950s cinema.
12:25You need elements that bring these all together.
12:28How's ballin' on a budget?
12:30We are ballin' on a budget.
12:32Okay.
12:33Talk to me.
12:34Okay, so with my look specifically, I wanted to make sure that I incorporated the modesty
12:38aspect of what I do.
12:39So mine is gonna be long fringe.
12:41Okay.
12:42Kenya, what are you doing?
12:44I wanted to stay in my element as far as design aesthetic.
12:47Of course.
12:48And create a cocktail dress.
12:50It looks like I'm standing next to someone on the subway.
12:53And I'm reading part of the paper they're not.
12:55I understand what Tim has to say.
12:57So I'm really trying to calm myself down and try to make a plan happen.
13:03So Brandon, you're making this print?
13:05Yes.
13:06I'm just finishing up the patterning now, so I don't have anything to show on the form.
13:09But I'm doing a sleeveless jumpsuit with a huge bell-bottom pant.
13:13Does each of these pieces of vinyl represent a piece from which you're going to cut a pattern?
13:18Exactly.
13:19Okay.
13:20I believe you've planned beautifully.
13:21So my girl, she's going to an art gallery event.
13:25I'm gonna make this more structured.
13:27I'm gonna use some of the vinyl and some of the brown paper bag material to make the skirt flare out.
13:34Here is an overarching principle of this challenge.
13:37It's to work with these unconventional materials in such a way that you're controlling them and they're not controlling you.
13:47And botany, here's my concern about this.
13:49It looks like this paper is controlling you.
13:53I'm gonna be a blunt instrument because I'm most worried about you.
13:56Mm-hmm.
13:57This is not gonna help you.
13:59My mind is just turning like, okay, I'm just gonna scrap this and create a new design.
14:03All right, Erin, what are you doing?
14:05I'm designing for this party girl.
14:07I kind of have these, like, crazy, fringy pants and a clear plastic top that had a little bit of everyone's material confettied in it.
14:15Are these five looks coming out of the same closet?
14:20I'll be blunt with you.
14:21It concerns me.
14:26Coming up on Project Runway.
14:28Let's look through the materials and let's figure out what we could do.
14:31Will you...
14:32Stop.
14:33Stop.
14:34Stop talking.
14:35We're in trouble, aren't we?
14:40As individual pieces, I get it.
14:43As a collection, I'll be blunt with you, it concerns me.
14:46Talk among yourselves about how you can give some more depth to these surfaces because they're rather flat.
14:52That's okay.
14:53I can do that.
14:54We need to help each other out and pull off something that is phenomenal.
14:59We don't have any other option.
15:01All right, designers.
15:02You all have a huge amount of work to do.
15:04We do.
15:05I'm not going to mince words.
15:06I'm worried.
15:08Your models are coming in at 7.30.
15:11I have confidence in you.
15:14All right?
15:15Make it work.
15:16I'll see you in the morning.
15:17Bye-bye.
15:18Bye-bye.
15:19Bye-bye.
15:24I'm stressed.
15:25No, I'm stressed.
15:26No, I'm stressed.
15:27No, I'm stressed.
15:28No, I'm stressed.
15:29I'm too blessed to be stressed.
15:30Oh, I'm blessed and I'm stressed at the same.
15:32From Tim's advice, we reevaluate everything.
15:34We pull from Brandon's print.
15:36We pull from Kenya's newsprint.
15:38And my luck is going to be one that ties us all together where I literally use a concept from everyone.
15:44Santel and I are a little concerned with the progress that Sean is making.
15:51Let's look through the materials and let's figure out what we could do.
15:54Like, collectively, we can all, like, cohesively get something.
15:57I don't like asking for help.
15:59Oh, I'm the same way.
16:00But it's all about staying here and getting another chance.
16:03Yes.
16:04Perfect.
16:05So let's go.
16:06I'm kind of short.
16:07Hello.
16:08Hi.
16:09Tim has given me another critique that is not good.
16:12So I just scrap the whole design and I decide to work with the vinyl and just add accents of other materials.
16:18So how's this coming together to work with everybody else that's here?
16:22Yeah, yeah, yeah.
16:23I can't be at the bottom again.
16:24I just can't.
16:25Oh, boy.
16:26I think we got you a winner here.
16:27Oh!
16:29Newspaper, plastic.
16:30What am I going to do with that?
16:32These kind of designs, you can't move around that much.
16:35You can't sit.
16:36So I'm just like, okay, Monique, are you ready for this?
16:39Like, get it together.
16:41Bye, darling.
16:42I'll see you tomorrow.
16:43Bye, ladies.
16:44Yeah, there we go.
16:46That's so cute.
16:48Hi, babe.
16:51I miss you so much, babe.
16:54I miss you too, man.
16:56So the day before I came to Project Runway, I got married to the love of my life and I didn't
17:03have a chance to have any honeymoon or any time to spend with my husband.
17:06Just know that I love you and you're my main motivation.
17:09I'm always thinking about you.
17:10I think winning Project Runway would be the best honeymoon surprise for my husband and I.
17:15I love you, baby.
17:16All right.
17:17I love you, babe.
17:18Bye.
17:19Hammering.
17:20I love you.
17:21Okay, so this is the Daddy Timo Wabi Sibi.
17:25It's doing well.
17:26Yes.
17:27I really love how everything looks.
17:28Hello!
17:29I smell a, I smell a hater.
17:34Gotta make it do what it do.
17:36So towards the end of this first day, Sean's lost it, and she's, she's choking.
17:41I need...
17:42Stop. Stop. Stop talking.
17:45She's focused on Claire, and she's not even working on her design.
17:48I want to put, like, some other pieces here.
17:50Watching this is honestly... it's painful.
17:53Where are those pieces of those...
17:55We already took them.
17:56We all have to be all hands on deck,
17:57and we've already got two people practically overboard.
18:01We're in trouble, aren't we?
18:06I think I dropped the ball on this one.
18:08And I feel like it's my fault if we're in the bottom.
18:11I feel like our team could definitely be in the bottom.
18:14I don't know.
18:15That's why I'm so nervous about going into today.
18:18You guys been looking around at all?
18:19You think there's a top or a bottom?
18:21I think I'm feeling good about my look.
18:22All right.
18:23Well, let's get it in, guys.
18:27We sure do know how to make a mess.
18:36Good morning.
18:37Good morning.
18:38Good morning.
18:38What a room.
18:39All right.
18:40If you're in the Brothers Sewing and Embroidery Studio, listen up.
18:44A lot can happen in two hours, and you have two hours this morning.
18:47We say the long prayer.
18:49The JCPenney accessory wall is your resource for styling your looks for the runway.
18:55And your models will be going to the Avon Beauty Lab and to our hair studio.
19:00Thank you, Tim.
19:00Thank you, Tim.
19:00I love you, guys.
19:01Love you, too.
19:02Wow.
19:03I love you.
19:05Focus.
19:06Oh, out.
19:08Woo.
19:09Yee.
19:10Sorry for all the bad words.
19:13Hi, ladies.
19:14Hi, girls.
19:15Hey, girls.
19:20Okay.
19:21That's good.
19:21What I love about Brandon's design is the wide leg pants because my thighs are huge.
19:29The fact that he was able to get that and still make me look really good, I really love it.
19:37It's not getting over.
19:38It's not getting over.
19:45Oh, Jesus.
19:46I'm alive.
19:47It was a doozy getting into.
19:49I got to put some paint, a little bit of paint on.
19:52It fits like it was made for my body.
19:54I can, like, move a little bit, and it's just, I love it.
20:02That's what I would say.
20:03It covers enough of her side boots.
20:04Shawn's look has some fit issues.
20:06This is going to be a hot mess.
20:08It looks fine.
20:09You're not going to have, like, a range of moments.
20:11Ayana's has a lot going on.
20:13It's very creative, but, you know, kind of reminds me of some mid-Evil Times-ish kind of thing.
20:24This is Janine.
20:25Hi, Janine.
20:26Okay, so today we're going for, like, a Japanese theme.
20:29We start going outside the line.
20:31High fashion.
20:32Yeah.
20:33Great.
20:34Hi.
20:35We want contour.
20:36We want a lot of highlights.
20:37We have these marked by Avon.
20:39What I'm going to do is do the darkest ones, just to give it a little dimension.
20:42Yeah.
20:43So we want to go kind of beachy, a little bit cruisy.
20:47Touch and glow.
20:48That's going to give you that sun-kissed look.
20:51Mmm.
20:52It looks really natural.
20:53All right, design teams.
20:55In ten minutes, you and your models and I are going down to the runway.
21:03Gotta make you look good.
21:05We have the most color.
21:08We have the most texture.
21:09It's very different.
21:10It's very different.
21:11We use the materials in a great way.
21:13Oh, no, no, no.
21:14It's beautiful.
21:15I feel that Santel's design is lacking a lot of design elements to it.
21:19I know he's a menswear designer, but I think for womenswear, he might need a little bit more time.
21:24Sean!
21:25Designers and models, we are headed down to the runway.
21:29To the runway.
21:30Let's go, teams.
21:31Go, go, go, go, go.
21:32Slow but successful.
21:35Coming up on Project Runway.
21:37Today was utter elegance.
21:39Very good.
21:40I'm so impressed.
21:41Hallelujah.
21:42Something's confusing me.
21:44This would look like a really nice prom.
21:52Jazz.
21:53Hello.
21:54Hey.
21:55Hey.
21:56Welcome to the runway.
21:57As you know, in fashion, one day you're in, and the next day, you're out.
22:01There are 15 of you here, and after tonight, there will be 14.
22:04In this challenge, you took sustainable fashion to a whole new level.
22:08You went to a recycling center to gather your materials.
22:11I love the unconventional materials challenge.
22:14It is my absolute favorite.
22:16You worked in three teams of five, and you were to create a high fashion five-look mini collection using your materials.
22:24The winning look will be featured in Marie Claire magazine.
22:28Deontay, you have immunity and cannot be eliminated today.
22:32All right, let's say hello to our judges.
22:34First, we have creative director for Brooks Brothers Women and fashion designer, Zach Posen.
22:39Hi, designers.
22:40Hi, Zach.
22:41Creative director for Marie Claire magazine, Nina Garcia.
22:45Hi, everyone.
22:46Nina.
22:47Actress, Maggie Q, star of the hit series, Designated Survivor.
22:52Hi, Maggie.
22:53Welcome.
22:54Editor-in-chief of Marie Claire magazine and Full & Wider.
22:58Hi again.
22:59Hi, Ann.
23:00Also, we have Tim Gunn here for the runway show.
23:02And as you know, he is your mentor and will not be judging your looks.
23:06We also have an anonymous runway show, so we, the judges, will not know which designer created which look.
23:11All right, let's start the show.
23:13I love the colors on her.
23:14She is killing it.
23:15The vinyl that I put over the white painted newspaper is really glistening.
23:29I'm feeling like this is setting the tone for our team.
23:32I think my dress is clean, so I'm happy with it, but I wanted to have more volume.
23:42It looks good.
23:43The fabric is flowing, and it's the most beautiful silhouette.
23:55Looks like a real leather suit.
23:57It's incredible.
23:58I love how everything is moving.
24:10I think it looks good.
24:11It's not my cleanest work, but to be honest, from far away, it just looks super cool, and
24:20Liz is completely working it.
24:24Wow.
24:29Our team actually looks like a collection that you would walk into a high-end boutique and
24:35find.
24:36I believe we'll be in Mary Claire.
24:46I'm definitely feeling confident.
24:47I feel that it's safe enough to pass me through.
24:51It looks beautiful on her, and she sold it.
25:01Samantha looks so beautiful.
25:04I like the top.
25:07She looks like she's wearing real clothing made of real fabrics and not garbage.
25:11I feel that the garment looks very attractive and stylish.
25:25The lights are going through the colored discs.
25:27It looks good.
25:32It fits her well.
25:35She feels comfortable and confident.
25:38It vibes with the collection.
25:40I'm pleased.
25:41She is captivating.
25:50She is stomping it out and making my dress look top-notch.
25:53Our collection looks very different.
26:04I'm concerned that we tried to be too safe, too conservative, and really miss that mark.
26:10My dress looks so cool.
26:21The colors are popping.
26:24She looks really futuristic.
26:26I want to take it off the model and wear it myself.
26:29Oh, my God.
26:34I see the shine and the top.
26:37I see she is so confident.
26:39We actually might have a chance at winning this.
26:42My model looks happy.
26:48The dress is flowing perfectly.
26:50The fit is right.
26:54I'm very excited to see what the judges have to say.
27:03Jasmine's walking down the runway and, I mean, she looks amazing.
27:06I'm thinking it's kind of the glue to the whole collection with the head-to-toe
27:11checker print, probably the most classic cut of it all.
27:22Misha is bringing my dress to life.
27:27It's looking amazing, and she is making me so proud.
27:36I could not be happier with my team.
27:39Everyone came together, put their ideas off on each other, and we have a pretty solid collection.
27:45I think we're going to be okay.
27:52Some of the looks today blew our minds.
27:54They were amazing.
27:56Others didn't impress us so much.
27:59There will be a winning team and a losing team.
28:01One member from the winning team will be the winner of this challenge.
28:04And one member from the losing team will be out.
28:11Some of the looks today blew our mind.
28:17Others didn't impress us so much.
28:21One member from the winning team will be the winner of this challenge.
28:24And one member from the losing team will be out.
28:28The winning team is...
28:32Falling on a budget!
28:34Congratulations, you guys!
28:35Are you crying?
28:36Are you crying, Kenya?
28:37Yes.
28:38Yes.
28:39Yes.
28:40You really did blow us away.
28:41The losing team is...
28:43Tsunami.
28:45Wabi Sabi, that means you're safe.
28:47I'm going to talk to the winning team first.
28:49And then Tsunami, I'm going to bring you back out.
28:52You guys can leave the runway.
28:56Bye.
28:57Bye.
28:58Bye.
28:59Bye.
29:00Bye.
29:01Bye.
29:02Bye.
29:03Bye.
29:04Bye.
29:05Bye.
29:06Bye.
29:07Bye.
29:08Bye.
29:09Bye.
29:10Bye.
29:11Bye.
29:12Bye.
29:13Bye.
29:15Bye.
29:16Bye.
29:17Bye.
29:22I'm confused totally.
29:23If they decide to say who was the weakest, do you guys have that figured out?
29:28figured all right team balling on a budget please do explain and tell us
29:43about your collection our collection is playing on futuristic music festival we
29:51decided on the print that Brandon came up with and we just wanted to show that
29:56throughout after the critique botany literally like redesigned hers Aaron had
30:01the fringe and then we kind of just tied it all together with Kenya's news prints
30:05my look was intended to kind of be a portion of everyone else's I am blown
30:12away thank you thank you great imagination and this is what the show is
30:17about you guys did the best job of transforming the materials especially
30:22this newsprint but honey last week you had one of the lower score yes good for
30:28you for turning it around thank you when I saw that walk down the runway today I
30:32was like oh yes fashion really fashion it's not just a dress thank you I was
30:38particularly impressed with Ayanna the drama of the fringe there was utter
30:44elegance to this dress your bottle cap button back the button said that was like
30:51oh there goes my heart so you are the winning team but only one of you will be
30:56the winner I would like to know who you think that should be well I really like
31:01Ayanna's dress I think she should win I think Brandon I don't know he was kind of
31:06the glue to us I guess Aaron just because that's like maybe something closer to what I
31:10would make I would pick Ayanna she was a team player I'm very very proud of her wow thank
31:15you Ayanna what about you my favorite piece is Kenyans okay we've heard what you had to say now we're
31:25going to talk to the losing team next and then I'm going to bring you back in a
31:29little bit you can leave the runway thank you thank you cool team tsunami you are the losing team please
31:41tell us about your collection so we went with a resort where theme and just tried to incorporate
31:47the materials that we had found into the collection some of these pieces I'm looking at and I still see
31:54garbage I don't see anything looking like fabric all of a sudden in some pieces I do Samantha I feel
32:01like in your top I do it looks sharp the amazing braid effect of that halter top should have been
32:06the main detail throughout the collection thank you sent out how long did you work on your outfit I
32:12finished a little early and what do you mean like a little early an hour or two early I'm surprised to
32:19hear that you had so much time left because it looks like you made it in 10 minutes doesn't feel
32:23transformed it's like a leprechaun went dumpster diving recycling is very much a reality of our
32:31fashion future so for you guys to be so short-sighted about the possibilities of this is very disappointing
32:39if I may say I think perhaps it may have been I fear you gotta take risks it's it's baffling to me
32:49quite frankly this whole thing and Sean actually yours I don't mind as much you know when I look at
32:55your skirt it actually fits pretty well also the halter it looks quite nice I actually sold the halter top
33:01oh you did well done thank you I thought everyone did just their girl the braid on mine Samantha did I
33:11did everything else and I did uh Shawn's top the textile was made by Shawn but I made the look you
33:21guys spend a lot of time making this Warhol silver fabric I painted all of it I think the silver is great
33:27and it's actually it's one of the better notes of cohesion a lot of it was rushed like Shawn's
33:32look didn't get assembled until this morning and we were all working on putting it together with her
33:36I love how the two of you do the same annoyed face at the same time yeah but it's true all three of us
33:43did help finish the twins look right I don't think that that's quite accurate I think that is very
33:48accurate if I may quote you you said I dropped the ball for you guys that's not incorrect I won't say
33:54that thank you very much I want to understand because something is confusing me if I may what
33:59Shawn was having an issue with is that this was a new experience for her having never worked with a
34:06curvier model she's not curvy that curvy I'm like shocked that you're saying she's curvy if you think
34:14that's curvy you're gonna have a real problem designing in the United States because that is
34:18not curvy so you really need to change your perspective and who do you normally design for singers
34:23celebrities people in the entertainment industry got it even if you had the perfect materials your
34:29perfect model this would look like a really nice prom this is a team challenge when all of them are
34:37bad there is not salvaging anything it's about the team if I were to say one that doesn't fit most of
34:45it's Amy's here's that bus that bus just came right out but Shawn since you rolled that bus onto that stage
34:54I want to know who you think is the weakest designer for the sake of time management it was me stylistically
35:01it would probably be Amy's while I do think Shawn does have a lot of talent I would probably choose
35:08to send her to come back another time I like you I just want you to be able to like lift yourself up
35:14after each time and I don't know if you can then tell what do you think it would have to be one of the
35:22twins it would be Shawn they both had problems designing and constructing their looks if I may I
35:30nearly sewed the entire silver dress myself so who do you think should go home Intel should go home I
35:36didn't really care for the way that the dress was executed okay we've heard what you had to say now
35:42we're going to take a closer look at your designs have a big chat and then I'm gonna bring you back
35:47onto the runway now you can leave the runway thank you the winner of project runway will receive the
35:55opportunity to collaborate with JCPenney on a limited-edition capsule collection as part of
36:00the project runway line sold at select JCPenney stores and online a selection of brothers sewing

36:29center $100,000 to launch their line and the winning designer and model will receive a fashion spread in
36:35mericlare magazine hello Tim hello do you want to bring each individually Marcia's wearing botany oh cool
36:44she remade one here she rallied and look what happened it's been completely transformed Christina's wearing
36:52Aaron I love that they played with the transparency and it floats around your leg it feels fashion it feels
36:57emotional and Monique is wearing Kenya I mean this is pretty fabulous the fabric is amazing it's a proper dress and
37:06Jasmine is wearing Brandon I love this she has to pull this off and make this look light and breezy these hands
37:15that's what makes it so special and Misha's wearing Ayana Wow this was beyond magic you have to do your spin
37:25it's cool so do you want to look at it look by look so we have Samantha wearing Samantha you know this was
37:34effective this braided I mean I think out of all of them this was the best look and we have Sean wearing Amy oh wow
37:45should we take off the jacket no no what's underneath it is also not great Laris will
37:52come out wearing Claire if she took up all the extra stuff and just had a silver top and skirt pretty cool
37:57we have Sunita wearing Santel Santel had a lot of talk about the form it is a garbage bag it's hanging
38:06together he thought it was good we have Kylie wearing Sean there was this whole issue with who made the top
38:15it's surprising that we don't know how to make clothing for curvy girls grow up and make clothes for real people
38:21okay so we've made our decision let's bring them back out team ball in on a budget there was one
38:37designers look that really stood out Ayana you are the winner of this challenge congratulations
