Transcript
00:00Did you know where the longest overwater bridge in the world is?
00:03It's so straight that halfway across, you can't see any land or shore,
00:07creating the feeling that you're driving along an endless strip of water.
00:11Some drivers even panic and call emergency services,
00:13thinking they've completely lost their sense of direction,
00:16especially in fog or heavy rain.
00:18The bridge is located in the U.S. state of Louisiana
00:20and is called the Lake Pontchartrain Causeway,
00:2338.5 kilometers of perfectly straight road without a single turn.
00:26It crosses Lake Pontchartrain, which is larger in area than the entire city of London
00:31and is supported by more than 9,500 concrete pilings.
00:35Construction began in 1955 and within a year, the first span opened.
00:40Later, the second span was added to separate traffic directions.
00:44In 2005, Hurricane Katrina brought catastrophic destruction to Louisiana,
00:48but the bridge survived.
00:50The bridge is in the Guinness World Records
00:51and today up to 40,000 cars cross it daily,
00:54with a patrol car on duty in the middle to help drivers who feel disoriented
