Transcript
00:00Did you know that between 1761 and 1799, Haider Ali and his son Tipu Sultan ruled Mysore in southern India?
00:17The formidable duo was a challenge to British imperial ambitions.
00:21This was aptly embodied in Tipu's words,
00:24It is better to live as a tiger for a day than as a sheep for a hundred years.

00:32Check out the Islamic Arts Museum Malaysia's new exhibition,
00:35More Than a Day as a Tiger, the legacy of Haider Ali and Tipu Sultan of Mysore.
00:42Located in Kuala Lumpur, IAMM has the finest collection of artifacts from the Mysore Sultanate outside the UK.
00:49Visitors are invited to explore and immerse themselves in the rich heritage of this influential yet largely forgotten father and son.
00:57Both rulers consistently sought out economic opportunities for their kingdom.
01:02Tipu was also known for producing weapons of exceptional quality that were regarded as among the most inventive of the time.
01:10At the exhibition, you'll get the chance to view a remarkable collection of Tipu's guns and swords.
01:17Mysore's weaponry and regalia captivated the British, who are said to have plundered as many items as they could send back to England.
01:24Still, there were some things that were simply too large to be taken in full.
01:29For example, Tipu's magnificent drone was torn apart for its golden jewels.
01:35You'll be able to admire one of the few gem-encrusted gold finials that survived the British looting.
01:41This exhibition is about reclaiming history.
01:46These two people, the father and son, Haider Ali and Tipu Sultan, ruled more than 200 years ago in southern India.
01:54Completely forgotten everywhere except southern India. Actually, northern India as well.
01:59The important thing is that we're trying to revive their reputation here.
02:02Don't miss this golden opportunity to spend more than a day as a tiger.
02:08Part of IMM's ongoing mission to shine a light on underrepresented stories from the Islamic world.
02:13Noramira Saraya and Sheila Vijayan, FMT.
