Les employés d'un immeuble de luxe de New York, proche de Central Park, découvrent que le principal locataire de l'immeuble, le riche financier Arthur Shaw, est assigné à résidence pour avoir détourné des milliards de dollars dans une vaste escroquerie. Parmi les victimes du malfaiteur se trouvent Josh et ses collègues, qui travaillent tous dans la résidence et ont côtoyé Shaw pendant des années. Ruinés et désespérés, ils apprennent, par l'agent Denham du FBI, que Shaw conserve vingt millions de dollars dans son appartement. Aidés par un truand minable que Josh connaît depuis son enfance, Slide, les employés décident de s'emparer de cet argent...
