00:00Donald Trump is readying an executive order which will have him lead a task force on the
00:042028 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles. The White House has scheduled an Oval Office meeting with
00:10a selection of athletes and members of the U.S. Olympic and Paralympic Committee to reveal the
00:15news. This includes having Trump in charge of the effort. Casey Wasserman, chairperson and
00:20president of LA28, released a statement which read in part, since we secured this historic
00:25opportunity in 2017, President Trump has consistently recognized the magnitude of our
00:30responsibility in welcoming the world to Los Angeles. This new effort is said to be an
00:35intergovernmental task force which will include several departments including law enforcement.
00:40But Trump getting hands-on with the project could exasperate the fractured relationship
00:44between the Trump administration and state and local leadership. A relationship which boiled over
00:49in June due to immigration raids in the city with officials ranging from California Governor Gavin
00:54Newsom and LA Mayor Karen Bass entering into a war of words with the president. Trump has a long
01:00history of being heavily involved in LA28. In June, Trump ordered a travel ban on 12 countries yet
01:07provided exemptions to Olympic athletes, their coaches and relatives. In January, Trump signed an
01:12executive order banning transgender athletes from women's sports and successfully pushed
01:17International Olympic Committee, IOC, to change its rules for LA28 to comply with the order.
