00:00The Philippine Statistics Authority recorded a slower inflation of 0.9% for July 2025.
00:07Meanwhile, rise inflation is expected to remain negative throughout the year.
00:12PTV's Denise Osorio has the details.
00:17Inflation continues to ease this year, according to the Philippine Statistics Authority,
00:22slowing to 0.9% in July, down 1.4% in June,
00:27significantly lower than the 4.4% recorded in July 2024.
00:32This decline is attributed to a more modest rise in the cost of utilities,
00:37such as electricity, water, and rent, which eased to 2.1% from 3.2%.
00:43The prices of food and non-alcoholic beverages also dipped by 0.2%,
00:48while transport costs fell by 2%, thanks to cheaper fuel at the pump and public transport fares.
00:55Yung vegetables inflation natin as a whole ay mababa pa rin.
01:01But we saw sa National Capital Region, particularly noong second half noong July,
01:13The price of rice dropped markedly by 18.2% from P50.90 in July last year
01:20to P41.31 this July.
01:23So, yung ating first regular milled rice nitong July,
01:47Yung year on year na reduction niya ay negative 18.2%.
01:52Rice inflation is expected to remain negative for the rest of the year.
01:56The Department of Agriculture explained its recommendation to gradually increase tariffs on imported rice
02:02from 15% to 25% and eventually 35% to balance the needs of both farmers and consumers.
02:30The Mesa added the proposed temporary suspension of rice imports for 45 to 60 days during harvest season
02:37is based on strong supply forecasts, owing to a record domestic harvest and high stock levels at the National Food Authority.
02:53Yung 45 to 60 days, ano yun eh, one and a half months.
03:10This downward trend in inflation is felt by many Filipino households,
03:15especially after recent typhoons when any relief from price hikes is more than welcome.
03:20Tumaas din konti, pero kahit pa paano mayroon.
03:24Isa naman, mura, wala naman.
03:27Minsan pagbagyo, mataas.
03:36Grandma Lucia, who used to spend between 1,500 pesos and 2,000 pesos per week
03:42to feed her four grandchildren, now finds 1,000 pesos a week enough for all five of them.
04:01Yung budget is okay na yun.
04:04Both grandmothers, Neri and Lucia, agree that one of the most significant changes
04:09is the drop in rice prices, particularly the availability of the Bente Bigas Merona program
04:14offering rice at 20 pesos per kilo for senior citizens, solo parents,
04:20persons with disabilities, and beneficiaries of the four-piece program.
04:24More affordable food is now reaching communities across the country,
04:28especially in eastern Visayas, northern Mindanao, Davao, Soxargen,
04:33and the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region, or BARM.
04:36In Metro Manila, inflation has declined to around 1.7 percent,
04:40while areas outside the capital report rates hover close to 1 percent.
04:45Denise Osorio from the National Television Network for a new and better Philippines.
04:50Well done.
