00:00Meanwhile, the president's most coveted wish is to completely stamp out hunger in the homeland.
00:05Towards such end, he seeks to leave or to lift over 600,000 Filipino families from food-poor status,
00:12in which each household earns a max of 9,000 pesos a month.
00:16Arnoel Talacay has the full report.
00:20Rosilani Yosub is a street vendor.
00:23Her income, according to her, is less than 10,000 pesos per month.
00:28That's why her family is always short in their budget for food.
00:32A survey from the Philippines Statistic Authority says a household that earns 9,000 pesos per month can be considered food-poor.
00:51Therefore, Rosilani's household falls in the sad category.
00:56In the recent State of the Nation address of President Ferdinand R. Marquez, Jr.,
01:01he said that just this year, his administration aims to help 600,000 food-poor families.
01:09According to the Food Poverty Survey of the Philippines Statistic Authority,
01:14there are 750,000 food-poor families in the country.
01:19Of that number, 300,000 food-poor families have already enrolled in the Department of Social Welfare and Development's Walang Gutong Program.
01:29Next month, the agency will begin locating an additional 300,000 food-poor families.
01:36This year, mag-expand po tayo sa additional provinces at regions, depending na po sa mabababa sa ating datos ng PSA.
01:46The agency also supports a bill from the House of Representatives to institutionalize the Walang Gutong Program.
01:54Actually, last Congress, nakalusot na kami sa first reading, sa committee level, nakalusot na kami.
02:00Ipupurso na lang namin ulit this new Congress.
02:04One of the innovations that the agency would do this year for the program is to make it fully digitalized,
02:11which has already been running in Tondo, Cebu, and Surigao.
02:16Ipipindot-pindot na lang sila kung ano yung gusto nilang order ng mga pagkain.
02:22So doon na din lalabas yung kanilang resibo, itatap na lang nila yung EBT card nila, babasahin yung QR code.
02:28Anselmo Brasas from Tondo, Manila, has been a beneficiary of the program for a year now,
02:34and he observes that his family has now sufficient food on their table.
02:38Sobra-sobra po, sapat na sapat na po, wala na pong, wala na pong nagtatang tatay, wala na pong patayin kami.
02:46DSWD says that the agency is just waiting for the report of PSA on its community-based monitoring
02:55because this is the basis of the agency in determining the additional 300,000 food-poor families
03:03who will become beneficiaries of the program.
03:07Next year, another 150,000 food-poor families will be accredited to benefit from the program
03:15that will complete the 750,000 food-poor families in the country that the Marcus Jr. administration intends to help.
03:25Noel Talakay from the National TV Network for New Better Philippines.
