00:00The Department of Agriculture explained why food prices in various markets went up

00:05during the House hearing of the Murang Pagkain Supercommittee.

00:08Data from the Philippine Statistics Authority show in December 2024,

00:12the retail price of regular milled rice was at 48 pesos and 81 centavos per kilo,

00:18while well-milled rice was at 52 pesos and 38 centavos nationwide.

00:22In Metro Manila, the retail price of regular milled rice was at 44 pesos and 94 centavos

00:27per kilo, while well-milled rice was at 52 pesos and 49 centavos per kilo.

00:32The supercommittee is looking at the supply chain, where the average increase in rice

00:37price is at 11 pesos, mainly due to the transport route of the staple grain to retail stores.

00:43Because of this, the committee ordered the DA to submit a supply chain analysis

00:48to better understand and address the high price of rice.

00:52I've been buying rice at 37 since December, till now. Since yesterday, I bought again.

01:01Because my entire coastal area and all my islands are starving because they cannot go out to shore.

01:09Because of the rains, because of the gale warning. We've been under gale warning for 47 days.

01:16Most likely, sir, baka po, local rice yan.
