Manchester United have submitted an opening bid worth £73.85 million to sign RB Leipzig star Benjamin Sesko in the summer transfer window.
United have made it a priority to sign a striker before deadline day, with Sesko identified as their new priority target for the role. It is understood they have made an initial offer of €75m plus €10m in add-ons, which is lower than upfront fee Newcastle have offered for the striker.
Newcastle saw their opening offer of €75m plus €5m in add-ons rejected over the weekend and have submitted an improved offer of at least €80m to the Bundesliga club. With the two clubs prepared to pay the same overall fee for a transfer, Sesko's transfer preference will be the deciding factor in the deal and he must choose which team he would rather play for next season.
00:00Manchester United have submitted an opening bid to sign Benjamin Szczesko in the summer transfer window.
00:06Ruben Amarillo has made it his priority to add a striker in the final month of the summer
00:11and Szczesko has been identified as the top target by United amid fierce competition from Newcastle in his signature.
00:20Newcastle have submitted two bids now for the RB Leipzig star.
00:23Their latest offer is worth a total package of €90 million.
00:28Manchester United's opening bid is worth a total package of €85 million.
00:34United's offer sees €75 million paid up front with a further €10 million in additional add-ons.
00:42Newcastle's offer is an €80 million initial fee with a further €10 million in potential add-ons.
00:48So the headline there is United have made their opening offer.
00:52It is still short €5 million of what Newcastle will prepare to offer.
00:56But RB Leipzig are believed to be quite happy with both proposals.
01:01They think they are both fair reflections of the value for the player.
01:04And I know that initially you'd probably say, well, why will they not go for the higher fee and take Newcastle's money?
01:10Well, the fact of the matter is they have very good relationships with United,
01:14with Christopher Vivell, the head of scouting, and Benjamin Szczesko is the player and the deciding factor in this transfer.
01:23He has the right, there's a gentleman's agreement, for him to choose to leave for what he deems to be an elite or special club this summer.
01:31So it's down to Szczesko. There's conflicting reports over which team he would rather join.
01:36Newcastle can offer Champions League football straight away.
01:39They can also offer a more advanced project under Eddie Howe in terms of how long he's been at the club.
01:46But Ruben Amarim believes that United are on the right track.
01:50United, of course, have Mission 150, which is an ambition to try to win the Premier League title by 2028.
01:57They've already signed Cunha and Mbwemo this summer, two players who are happy to join United and determined to be part of success at the club.
02:06For Szczesko, that is very appealing as well. United want to sign a striker.
02:10They've made him their top target. Now it's down to the player.
02:14Newcastle are prepared to offer more money, Champions League football, but Manchester United can offer something very special as well.
02:21The decision is now down to the player, but the big news is Manchester United have submitted an opening bid worth €85 million for Benjamin Szczesko.
