Manchester United in talks over Benjamin Sesko transfer

Manchester United are in active talks over a potential move for RB Leipzig star Benjamin Sesko in the final month of the summer transfer window.  Ruben Amorim wants to add a proven goalscorer to his first-team squad before deadline day on Monday 1 September and Sesko is viewed as the most attainable target on the market. United have also expressed an interest in Ollie Watkins, but Aston Villa remain adamant he is not for sale, while there is encouragement over a possible deal for Sesko.  It means Sesko is now the most likely striker signing this summer, though United are well aware they will need to fund a move through player sales if they are to make it happen. 00:14and Sesko is viewed as the most attainable option for United in the final month of the summer window.

00:20Newcastle United, of course, had made the 22-year-old their top target to replace Alexander Izak this summer,

00:26but Manchester United are believed to be ready to hijack a move for the Slovenian international,

00:32and once more, he is believed to favour a potential move to Manchester over Newcastle this summer.

00:39So United have signed Mbwemo, they've signed Cunha, could they add Sesko to their forward line as well?

00:44Sesko only signed a new contract with Leipzig a year ago, that was until 2029,

00:49but it's understood that it included a gentleman's agreement that would see him allowed to leave for any club

00:56he deemed elite this summer if they matched the valuation of between €80 and €90 million.

01:03However, there is hope that United could strike a deal for an initial fee of roughly £60 million for Sesko this summer,

01:10and that the rest of the fee could be compromised via performance-related add-ons and all of that as well.

01:17So Sesko is the new number one target for United in attack.

01:20Ruben Amirim had favoured a Premier League proven striker, Oli Watkins was the other name under consideration,

01:27but Aston Villa are adamant that he is not for sale, and the sort of finances of a deal as well

01:33don't really make much sense for a player who is 29.

01:36Watkins could arrive and give United that immediate improvement in the Premier League,

01:40but Sesko at the age of 22 is viewed as someone who could play in the United attack for the best part of a decade.

01:45So there is still a long way to go on this one, United will need to sell players if they are to finance a move,

01:51but the headline is United are in talks with RB Leipzig over a possible deal for Benjamin Sesko this summer.
