NGOs protest against plastic pollution ahead of UN treaty talks

Greenpeace, alongside other NGOs, call for world leaders to "secure a plastic treaty" during a protest outside the UN in Geneva, the day before talks aimed at hammering out a landmark global treaty on combating plastic pollution begin. "Every day we delay is another day that the world and our bodies are being polluted with plastic," says Graham Forbes, Greenpeace's head of delegation.

00:00Strong treaty now!
00:22If to solve the plastic pollution crisis we have to stop making so much plastic.
00:27Greenpeace and our allies number one priority is securing a plastics treaty that cuts plastic production,
00:32eliminates toxic chemicals and provides the financing that's going to be required to transition to a fossil fuel plastic free future.
00:40Well it's going to be up to ambitious countries like France and Germany, Canada and the UK to stand up for the level of agreement that follows the science,
00:50the moral imperative and the economics and they're going to have to stand up to the handful of countries in the fossil fuel industry
00:56that are trying to prevent progress.
00:58We cannot let a few countries determine humanity's future when it comes to plastic pollution.
01:03Plastic pollution affects every single person on this planet and we need a solution that protects everyone.
01:09Well we are here to make sure that it is the final one because every day we delay is another day that the world and our bodies are being polluted with plastic.
01:18Young people want to advocate for a strong legally binding instrument because now we don't have any more time.
01:27They need to take strong policies, strong laws.
01:31It cannot only be on the shoulders of the young people and the civil society or the commoner citizen to only take action.
01:40We need our decision maker, our politician to make strong commitments.
