00:00We've had a calm start to the 2025 hurricane season, but that piece might not last much
00:05longer.
00:06According to AccuWeather, August marks the shift into a far more active and dangerous
00:10phase of the Atlantic hurricane season.
00:13Lead hurricane expert Alex DaSilva warns that with warmer ocean waters and a possible return
00:18of La Nina, conditions are ripe for tropical storms not just through October, but possibly
00:24even into December.
00:26Right now, the skies are clear for the next 10 days, but that's exactly when people let
00:30their guard down.
00:31DaSilva urges everyone to act now.
00:34Restock emergency supplies, check your insurance, and stay alert.
00:38Historically, August through early October sees the biggest spike in hurricanes, peaking around
00:43September 10th.
00:45Tropical waves from Africa are starting to hold together better as Saharan dust eases and ocean
00:49temps rise.
00:50Once wind shear drops and conditions align, these waves can rapidly become powerful storms.
00:56And 85% of major hurricanes come from these tropical waves.
01:00So don't wait for the storm warning, because by then, it might be too late.
