00:00because of all the talk about who's gone
00:02from that offensive coaching staff
00:05and even the defensive coaching staff
00:06with Ben Johnson and Aaron Glenn now being head coaches.
00:10Well, maybe we learned something here.
00:14Maybe.
00:15I mean, it's a Hall of Fame game,
00:16but boy, the Lions looked awful.
00:19I mean, they really, really did.
00:21Where are you right now on this Detroit Lions team
00:23with all of this turnover?
00:25Good, not great.
00:26And here's where I may shock you.
00:28And we did learn something.
00:29Kyle Allen is absolutely terrible.
00:31He should not even be a backup quarterback in the league.
00:33Okay.
00:3491 yards, two interceptions,
00:35going back to his days at Texas A&M.
00:38When I look at this team
00:39and you look at the playmakers that they have offensively,
00:43Goff, Jameer Gibbs, St. Brown, and Jamison Williams,
00:46they could score with anyone.
00:48Are they going to be as explosive now without Ben Johnson,
00:52even though it might be the same system,
00:54might be the same scheme,
00:55when you have a new OC, new DC,
00:58that's a huge test to overcome.
01:01And Philadelphia started 10-1 a couple of years ago
01:04and limped to a 1-5 record at the end of the regular season
01:07and got knocked and bounced by your Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
01:11Right?
01:11You know that as well as anybody.
01:13And people will say, well, it doesn't matter.
01:14They're on the staff.
01:15Yeah, but coordinators need to understand how that talent responds.
01:19They have to call a game plan around that talent,
01:21and they have to get into a rhythm.
01:23And sometimes that could happen a couple games in.
01:26It could happen a month in.
01:28Might never happen.
01:29And that's where I think the inconsistency can lie in the Detroit Lions
01:33as it relates to a 14, a 15-win football team,
01:37number one in the NFC like they were last year.
01:40I think they have the potential, believe it or not,
01:42to be a 10-win football team.
01:44I think potentially Green Bay could catch them in the division.
01:47I really believe that.
01:49And I would bet at 2-1 that they have a better shot to miss the playoffs
01:52than make the playoffs.
01:54I'm willing to make that bet because I think there's a lot of pressure
01:58on this team.
01:58And we're not talking about, hear me out, San Francisco or Philadelphia,
02:04a storied franchise.
02:05We are talking about the Detroit Lions that have had success under Dan Campbell.
02:11They haven't won a Super Bowl, haven't even played in it.
02:14They got to the pinnacle, had San Francisco dead to rights,
02:18and they can't put them away.
02:20And now they lose last year after the first round, number one seed.
02:25And now there's pressure on to get back there.
02:28I think they're regressing.
02:29Yeah, I think the Philly comparisons, it can kind of go both ways
02:35because there's this expected step back.
02:39We know there's offensive line exits, right?
02:41Jason Kelsey had retired from Philadelphia.
02:44We know that.
02:45We saw the Ragnar retirement, plus Seitler moving on as well,
02:48joining Tennessee.
02:50There's the coordinator overhaul.
02:52There's a defense that was really, really bad.
02:55But I look at it, Joe, and there's a lot of room for improvement
02:58with the double safety pairing.
03:01Terion Arnold, who was supposed to be very good at Alabama,
03:03could maybe get a year-two leap.
03:05Getting Aiden Hutchinson is important.
03:07They spent their first-round draft pick on a defensive tackle
03:09in Williams out of Ohio State.
03:11So I don't worry about Aaron Glenn's departure as much
03:15because I just think there's more talent ultimately.
03:17And I don't know if I was ever fully sold on Aaron Glenn,
03:20the defensive coordinator, even if I think he can be good for the Jets.
03:24But the difference is Philly's coordinator turnover two seasons ago
03:29is because they had to fire everybody because they were all bad.
03:31But when Philly lost coordinators, because they were great in Gannon and Steikton,
03:37they were awful.
03:38And that's the comparison for what Detroit walks into.
03:42And that's where the offensive line stuff is a little more concerning
03:46because now what if Jared Goff doesn't have the protection
03:50or the overseer in Ben Johnson?
