00:00Spain on Sunday braced for the second heatwave of the season that meteorologists expect will
00:09push thermometers above 42 Celsius in parts of the Iberian Peninsula and further heighten the
00:15risk of wildfires. In the southern city of Seville, a street thermometer had reached 41 degrees
00:21Celsius. Locals, tourists and even horses from carriages cooled off by drinking water and trying
00:27to find a shade to protect from sizzling sun. Hot and dry summers are common across the
00:32region, but more intense heat waves have contributed to destructive wildfires in recent years amid
00:39fast rising temperatures around the globe, with Portugal and Spain having had the hottest
00:44June on record.
