06:59one with different kinds of houses,
07:01and one with musical instruments.
07:03Oh, my, whose booth is this?
07:09That's our booth, Barney.
07:13My.
07:16We haven't even started decorating it yet.
07:20That's because we haven't decided what to put in it.
07:22What are we going to do?
07:24Everyone will be at tonight,
07:25and our booth isn't ready.
07:27It'll be the only one without anything in it.
07:30Oh, I'm sure if you work together,
07:32you'll think of something to make your booth super-deep-duper.
07:37What can we put in our booth?
07:39Someone already did dolls.
07:41And clothes.
07:43Too bad we can't do musical instruments.
07:45Hmm.
07:46Thinking makes me hungry.
07:49Maybe we'll think of something to put in our booth
07:51if we have a snack to eat.
07:53I've got some chocolate chip cookies I'll share.
07:56Chocolate chip cookies?
07:57What chocolate chip cookies?
07:59I saved them for my lunch,
08:01and Lincoln, I'll share them.
08:02Mmm.
08:03Yummy.
08:04Boy, chocolate chips, chocolate chips.
08:07The cookies.
08:09They're gone.
08:10Gone?
08:11Oh, no.
08:12Oh.
08:13Whoa.

09:16I'm sorry, Carlos, but I was really hungry, and I didn't think you wanted them.
09:21Oh, that's okay, Juan, but next time you should ask first.
09:24Sorry.
09:25You know, we all have extra sandwiches, because we knew we'd be working on the booth after school today.
09:30Let's have our snack now.
09:32Oh, okay.
09:32Oh, goodies.
09:39Hey, my bread is square, and yours is round, like a donut, Kathy.
09:44Uh-huh.
09:44My bread is called a bagel.
09:46Mmm, that looks yummy.
09:49Look, mint sandwich opens like a pocket.
09:53It's made with pita bread.
09:55Mmm, delicious.
09:57Mine is made from a rolled-up tortilla.
10:00This is making me hungry.
10:02I think I'll run over to my refrigerator and get my sandwich.
10:08Refrigerator?
10:09I never knew Barney had a refrigerator.
10:11What the f-

10:21Oh, I love pickles.
10:23Ah, here's my sandwich, behind the milk.
10:27Oh, I can't wait to take a bite.
10:31Wow!
10:32That's a big sandwich, Barney.
10:34Oh, just the right size.
10:36For a dinosaur, that is.
10:38Your sandwich is made with dark bread, Barney.
10:41What kind is that?
10:42It has a funny name.
10:44What is it?
10:45Oh, it's called pumpernickel bread.
10:49Pumpernickel?
10:50Pumpernickel, pumpernickel, pumpernickel.
10:52That's a very funny name.
10:55For a very tasty bread.
10:58Mmm, yum.
10:58I have a bread, and it's called pumpernickel.
11:04Yum, yum, pumpernickel, pumpernickel bread.

12:28Oh, oh, oh, oh, diggy.
12:31Oh, that's great.
12:37I'm glad we brought those sandwiches. I was really hungry.
12:41Oh, I was, too.
12:42Howdy, partners!
12:47Stella, hi there.
12:49Stella, you look like a cowgirl.
12:52What a neat outfit.
12:54Why, thank you, Kathy. I just got back from Texas, where I've been roping cattle, busting broncos, and riding the range.
13:04I just stopped by because of what you were talking about earlier, and that reminded me of a story about bread.
13:11Well, it's sort of about bread.
13:13Oh, oh, oh, oh, terrific story. Let's get ready.
13:18This story is called The Little Red Hen.
13:21Now, as the story goes, this hen lived in a house with a dog, and a cat, and a mouse.
13:31Well, they all got along quite well, actually. They all like to do the same things. They like to read the same books. They like to play the same games.
13:39But there was one problem. The dog liked to curl up in the sun on the back porch all day. And the cat liked to snuggle into the couch. And the mouse liked to curl up in its favorite chair by the fire.
13:54Well, that left the hen to do all the work. The hen cooked all the meals. She washed all the dishes. She did all the laundry. And she tended the garden.
14:06One day, while the hen was hoeing in the garden, she found some grains of wheat. So she looked around for a friend, and she called,
14:18Muck, muck, muck, muck, muck, muck. Who will help me plant these grains of wheat?
14:22And the little red hen said, Muck, muck, muck, muck, muck, muck, then I will.
14:36So each morning, the little red hen watered the wheat. She pulled the wheat. And soon the wheat began to grow tall.
14:44And when the wheat was ripe and ready for picking, the little red hen asked, Muck, muck, muck, muck, muck, muck, who will pick the wheat?
14:52And what do you think they said?
14:55Not I, said the dog. Not I, said the cat. Not I, said the mouse.
15:03And the little red hen said, Muck, muck, muck, muck, then I will.
15:06And she remembered, Muck, muck, muck, muck, muck, muck, muck, muck.
15:09And the little red hen picked all the wheat and tied it in nice, neat bundles.
15:15Then she asked her friends, Muck, muck, muck, muck, muck, muck.
15:18Who will take the wheat into town to be ground into flour?
15:22Not I, said the dog. Not I, said the cat. Not I, said the mouse.
15:29And the little red hen said,
15:31Then I will.
15:36When she returned from town with the flower,
15:39the little red hen decided to bake a loaf of sweet bread.
15:43Now the hen loved sweet bread because it was almost as tasty as cake.
15:48Once again, she asked her friends,
15:50Oh, well, help me bake the bread.
15:54Not I, said the dog.
15:57Not I, said the cat.
15:59Not I, said the mouse.
16:02And the little red hen said,
16:03Then I will.
16:07The little red hen made the flower into dough and popped it into the oven.
16:11And soon the sweet smell of sweet bread floated through the house.
16:16Well, that got the other animals' attention and they came running.
16:21But the little red hen looked at her friend and asked,
16:25Now who will help me eat this sweet bread?
16:31I will, said the dog.
16:33I will, said the cat.
16:36I will, said the mouse.
16:38And the little red hen just shook her head and said,
16:41I did all the work myself and now I think I will eat it all by myself.
16:47And she did.
16:49Every bite, every crumb.
16:52Yum, yum, yum, yum, yum.
16:54You know, a funny thing happened after that.
16:57Whenever the little red hen asked the dog or the cat or the mouse to help her around the house,
17:02they were always ready.
17:05I think they learned a lesson.
17:08The end.
17:09Oh, yay.
17:11What a super-dee-duper story, Stella.
17:15Baking bread sounds like hard work.
17:18It certainly is, Juan.
17:20But it can be lots of fun.
17:22Some breads are made from kernels of wheat,
17:24some from corn and even rice.
17:27First they take the grains and they mash them into a powder.
17:30You know what that's called?
17:31Flour.
17:33That's right.
17:35And we use the flour to bake breads in all sizes and shapes.
17:40Crunchy and soft,
17:42bumpy and smooth,
17:44in all sorts of yummy flavors.
17:46That's right, Barney.
17:48Why just look at all these different kinds of breads, kids.
17:51Oh, oh.
17:53Let's see.
18:00Goodness.
18:01They look good.
18:10Wow.
18:11Did all that fit in there?
18:17Look at the little breads.
18:19Oh, good kinds.
18:22Oh, my.
18:23That is a lot of bread, Stella.
18:25Here are bagels from Israel and pita from Greece.
18:31Rye bread and corn bread.
18:34Let's eat a piece.
18:35There are so many breads.
18:37There are so many breads from which we can pick.
18:40Round breads and square breads.
18:44Some like a stick.
18:48Southwestern breads that we call tortillas.
18:50And Italian bread from my friend Sophia.
18:55Here's a German bread that makes your tongue tickle.
19:01Oh, you know I love it.
19:03It's called...
19:04Humpernickel.
19:06Right.
19:07And finally, a loaf that seems rather long.
19:12But with this French bread, you'll never go wrong.
19:15I never knew there were so many different kinds of breads.
19:22Oh, there are even more than you see here, Kathy.
19:24Bread is one of the most important foods to people all over the world.
19:28That's it.
19:31What's it?
19:32We can use Breads of the World as a bean for our food.
19:35That'll be perfect for the International Festival.
19:39Good idea, Ben.
19:40Thanks.
19:41But Stella and Barney helped me think of it.
19:44Well, it looks as if you all have a lot of work to do.
19:47And I'm off to tell more stories to children.
19:50So, as they say in Texas,
19:52Bye, y'all.
19:53Bye, kids.
19:54Bye, Barney.
19:54See you real soon.
19:57Bye, Stella.
19:57Bye, Stella.
19:58Thanks for the story.
20:00Toodle.
20:02Bye, Stella.
20:06We've got all the bread we need to make a nice display for the festival.
20:10Maybe, but I think it's missing one thing.
20:12What's that, Carlos?
20:13I think we should make a loaf of our own bread to put in the booth.
20:16That's a great idea.
20:18We could make the dough here.
20:20Then I'll take it home and Nana and I will bake it right away.
20:24Let's go.
20:25And for you.
20:29Empty, empty, empty.
20:33Has everyone washed their hands?
20:35Yes.
20:36Okay, then.
20:37Let's go.
20:38First, we'll have to measure the flour.
20:42Step one to make the bread.
20:44We have to measure flour.
20:46Measure flour.
20:47Yes.
20:47That's the way we make a loaf of bread.
20:50Okay, now.
20:52Time to pour the water.
20:53Step two to make the bread.
20:55We have to pour the water.
20:58Pour the water.
20:59That's the way we make a loaf of bread.
21:02And now we'll stir it up.
21:05Step three to make the bread.
21:07We have to stir it up.
21:09Stir it up.
21:10Yes.
21:10That's the way we make a loaf of bread.
21:12Now let's knead the dough like this.
21:16Step four to make the bread.
21:18We have to knead the dough.
21:20Knead the dough.
21:21Yes.
21:21That's the way we make a loaf of bread.
21:24And now we'll watch it rise.
21:27Step five to make the bread.
21:29We have to watch it rise.
21:31Watch it rise.
21:31Yes.
21:32That's the way we make a loaf of bread.
21:35And in the pan it goes.
21:37Step six to make the bread.
21:39We put it in the pan.
21:41In the pan.
21:42Yes.
21:42That's the way we make a loaf of bread.
21:45You did just what I said.
21:46Yes.
21:47We made a loaf of bread.
21:50Oh, what great bakers you are.
21:56Looks like we're all finished.
21:58And you made it all by yourselves.
22:00Now I'll take it home to Nana.
22:02And help her bake it for us in her oven.
22:05You've only put half the dough in a baking pan.
22:07What are you going to do with the rest of it?
22:09That's a surprise, Barney.
22:12We've got something special planned for that dough.
22:15Oh, I just love surprises.
22:19I'll be back as soon as our bread is baked.
22:22See you later.
22:22Okay, see ya.
22:23We're back.
22:25Let's go outside and start decorating our booth.
22:27Oh, still.
22:28Oh, pendus.
22:31Oh, now look at your booth.
22:36It's super de-duper.
22:40Wow.
22:41Our booth looks as nice as all the others.
22:44Hi, Kathy.
22:45How did our bread turn out?
22:47Perfect.
22:47See?
22:48It smells great.
22:54Good job, Kathy.
22:56Thanks.
22:57Nana and I baked it together.
22:59It turned out just right.
23:01Looks beautiful.
23:03And delicious, too.
23:05And we made it.
23:06I like all the booths, but I think yours is the most special.
23:11Your families will be very proud of you.
23:14And I am, too.
23:16But what's in the basket under the napkin there, Kathy?
23:19It's a little surprise for you, Barney.
23:22A surprise for me?
23:25Everywhere in the world, people love bread.
23:28But here's a loaf of bread to show you that we love you.
23:32Oh, a heart.
23:35Oh, thanks, everyone.
23:41I love you.
