Repeated bouts of rain and flooding in central and southern Taiwan are testing residents’ patience as they brace for more damage. The government has rolled out financial aid, but only a small number of people qualify.

00:45The record-breaking rain has brought multiple transit routes to a halt in Pingtung,

00:50and downpours continue in the Kaohsiung Mountains.

00:54The central government has raised the emergency response alert to the highest level,

00:58as it monitors the situation on the ground.

01:01Authorities are also offering up to US$1,700 for affected households.
