Days of heavy rain have caused severe flooding and landslides across southern Taiwan. The severe weather looks set to continue over the weekend.

00:00Rescue workers continue their search for the missing.
00:03After landslides in southern Taiwan caused a car to plunge into a ravine,
00:08the family inside still yet to be found.
00:22The tragedy comes after days of torrential rains drenched southern Taiwan,
00:27causing serious flooding, rockfalls and landslides in the region.
00:31Schools and businesses are closed in many areas,
00:34and some residents have been evacuated,
00:36especially from mountainous regions which have been the hardest hit.
00:40In one mountain town in Pindong, landslides blocked off roads down the mountain,
00:45preventing residents with chronic diseases from getting medical care.
00:50The town's mayor making his way across a swollen stream to get the medicine himself.
00:57In Taitung, large amounts of driftwood washed into a fishing port,
01:03leaving ships unable to move and coast guard vessels unable to enter or exit.
01:08Cleanup efforts there are still underway.
01:10The heavy rain has also affected sea conditions.
01:26This ferry between Taiwan's main island and a nearby outlying island rocking violently.
01:36And it looks like southern Taiwan may not be in the clear for some time,
01:40as forecasters predict rain to continue over the weekend,
01:44possibly bringing more damage and disruption across the region.
