BNI Manila West launches its first chapter in Manila City—BNI Galleon—reviving the spirit of the historic Galleon Trade that once connected economies and cultures. Launched at the iconic Manila Hotel, which also became one of its founding members, BNI Galleon began with 43 business owners and professionals committed to one mission: to grow their businesses by building strong relationships that lead to quality referrals. Now, BNI Manila West sets its sights on expansion with the launch of its second chapter—BNI Conquest. Business owners who are serious about growth are welcome to join.

00:00Hey, good morning, good afternoon.
00:27This is Butch Bartolomeo, the business mentor over Manila Times.
00:31You know, today is Sunday, the 3rd of August, the first Sunday.
00:36And, you know, we just want to bring and be enlightened.
00:42So today I invited a friend and a friend who is with a network, BNI.
00:52So the topic today is, is BNI still relevant and worth it for today's entrepreneurs?
01:00So people have been asking me, what does BNI really stand for?
01:06Okay, why are meetings so early?
01:10And why are so many businesses joining?
01:14So there are a lot of people who have joined.
01:16So we just want to be clarified at this point.
01:20And today we have invited a friend, someone who can really walk the talk with us.
01:27Regional Director of BNI Manila, West Gold member, chapter founder, past president of the Philippine Marketing Association, and more.
01:39And a business boss, an award-winning entrepreneur.
01:44Please welcome Ms. Yayu Javier.
01:47How are you, Yayu?
01:48Good Sunday to you.
01:51Good morning and thank you so much.
01:53As we say in BNI, it's always a good morning, you know.
01:55And thank you so much for the kind introduction and for bringing me here.
01:59I'm really so excited.
02:00Yeah, you know, a lot of people still wonder, you know, a lot of people want to join BNI and still wonder what it really is all about.
02:08But it's really the ultimate in terms of networking, you know.
02:13It started in the United States, founded by Dr. Ivan Meissner.
02:17And it has 350,000 members globally in 79 countries.
02:22And, you know, what's great about it, it has generated over $25 billion of businesses between its members in just one year.
02:32But in the Philippines, we have about more than 1,500 members.
02:36We have 45 chapters and have generated about 7 billion pesos between our members in just one year.
02:44And it really works.
02:45You know, it's not about selling your stuff.
02:47It's really about building real business relationships that really are based on actual referrals.
02:54So all we have to do is really follow the process.
02:56You know, Dr. Ivan Meissner came up with this brilliant, very simple, brilliant process.
03:01And if we just follow it and we're trained to follow it, they get a really good ROI anywhere from 20 to 20, 20 to 10 to 20 times their ROI.
03:11And some of them are even beyond that.
03:13And, you know, you could be any business and you can connect not just in the Philippines, in Manila, but anywhere across the globe.
03:23So it's really based on giver's gain, helping others.
03:27As we all know, if we help, you know, it comes back to us in terms of blessings and grace.
03:31And it's the same concept.
03:33But the difference is that this is business and it has a structure.
03:36So no fluff, just structure and results.
03:39Yeah, but what makes BNI different from other networking groups?
03:45Oh, yeah, it's so different.
03:47You know, I'm a member of so many organizations.
03:49And, you know, let's be honest.
03:51You join so many of these orgs while, you know, I am an advocate of the different orgs.
03:56But this BNI is really intentional.
03:59Now, you go to other events, networking events, you give cards.
04:03But what happens is you have a collection of cards, you email them and they say, okay, I'll get back to you and never get back to you.
04:09But what BNI does is it flips all of that.
04:12Now, you have people in BNI that actually ask you, what do you do?
04:16You know, what are you looking for?
04:18Who do you want to connect with?
04:19And how can I refer you?
04:21So in other words, how can I help you?
04:23This is such a very common question that BNI.
04:26So it's so different.
04:27It's way the other way around when you talk to a BNI member.
04:31It's not about waiting to be noticed.
04:33It's being proactive.
04:34It's being intentional.
04:36And members are there to grow with you, not just, you know, clamor or clap for you.
04:42Oh, okay.
04:43But tell me, is giving referrals awkward?
04:47Like, you know, do I need to be super salesy or whatever?
04:53Some people find it too awkward to be giving referrals.
04:57Is that right?
04:57So sometimes, you know, you're shy, you know, to push when you meet someone.
05:01You're kind of shy.
05:03But it's really not being pushy.
05:06It's about building trust because that's what it's really all about.
05:10That's the reason we have what we call the one-to-one, which is really a one-on-one conversations with each other.
05:16Really getting to know the members and what it is that they're doing.
05:20Because you become now like the extended salesperson of your referral partners, we call it.
05:26It's very structured, but it's very casual.
05:29And when you get to like each other, then you say, hey, you know, how can I help you?
05:34And I know someone actually who might need your services.
05:37So it becomes very second nature.
05:39And to be very honest, I'm like, even when I'm outside of BNI or when I'm not talking to BNI members, it's already a mindset I have.
05:48I'm always thinking of, how can I connect this person with someone?
05:50I'm always willing to help.
05:53Okay.
05:54So that's interesting to know.
05:57But tell me, what kind of businesses can join BNI?
06:01Is it only a certain confined industry?
06:03Oh, no.
06:05What's great about, you know, what's great about BNI?
06:07It's just so many types of businesses.
06:10When you join trade organizations, you're limited to that particular trade.
06:13But when you join BNI, there's just, you know, a slew of so many types of industries.
06:18And what's great about it is when you join a chapter, you are exclusive.
06:22You are entitled to the one seat of that industry or that business classification.
06:26That means you don't have any competitors.
06:29There's just going to be one florist, one SEO expert, one photographer, one insurance broker, and you're the only one.
06:36So it's all about building trust, getting, you know, better referrals because you trust each other.
06:43So there's really no competition.
06:46And you're not limited to the chapter.
06:48You can go outside of your chapter.
06:50You can reach out to people in Cebu, in Iloilo, in Pampanga.
06:54You can reach out to people in the U.S., in Toronto.
06:58You can reach to anyone.
06:59So when I visit a country, I always attend the chapter meeting because I want to connect with everyone.
07:06Okay.
07:07Let's be real.
07:10Let's have a real talk, Yai.
07:13How much does it really cost to join?
07:16You know, it's not really about membership.
07:19It's actually a marketing investment because that's what it is, referral marketing.
07:25You know, when you compare, you do a digital marketing, you pay about $30,000 to $70,000 to your agency.
07:31You have a trade show.
07:32You have an exhibit.
07:33It'll cost you $150,000 to $500,000.
07:36You get a salesperson.
07:38Sometimes, you know, it will cost anywhere from $35,000 to $100,000.
07:42And after six months, it's not going to be able to do that.
07:44So most networking events you attend, it's also going to cost you a lot.
07:48But for B&I, it's $43,500 for one year.
07:53And you can even get about, you know, a financing of about $5,500 only for a month.
07:58It depends on the kind of terms you want.
08:00That allows you to get 52 weekly marketing networking events.
08:06Can you imagine that?
08:07Then you have 40 to 50 business owners or professionals who are willing to refer business.
08:13So you always think about thinking about what to refer to you.
08:16You have trainings, you have branding, you have networking, and you have a platform, a CRM platform.
08:23We have a B&I Connect that connects you to the 350,000 members across the world.
08:28It's like a 24 by 7 call center.
08:32So you'll be able to recover your investment even after you've paid your monthly payments.
08:38Before even you finish that, you've probably recovered it.
08:40But you have to follow the system.
08:43Right, right.
08:44So, but again, walking the top, do you have any actual success stories that B&I has really documented?
08:52Oh, lots of them.
08:54We even came up with a book, 100 Success Stories of people who have been very successful in B&I.
09:00Some, they even got business before, you know, before even starting with an official chapter.
09:07And some, they just uploaded the profile in their B&I Connect.
09:10And somebody from another country of B&I already approached them in a span of two weeks.
09:16So there's just so many stories that you can hear.
09:19And the fact that we have been growing, we have 350,000 members and we have 1,500 members here in the Philippines is a testament that it works.
09:30So I understand you have a member who has not even joined yet and she got a referral.
09:38Is that true?
09:39It's true.
09:39And it's, she was able to recover it in just one meeting.
09:44So, so it's really, it's really something that can attract a lot of people.
09:51But tell me, a lot of people are asking, you know, 6.30 a.m. meetings?
09:57Really?
09:58I mean, are people waking up that early?
10:03Yeah, well, I know it really sounds crazy.
10:07But, you know, most business people are very busy and they wake up early.
10:11And what we do is we have a breakfast meeting, which is around 6.30 and before 7 o'clock we start the meeting.
10:18It's because by the time 9 o'clock starts, you're done, you know, you're ready to do your operations in the business.
10:25And a lot of people ask, you know, do we have to meet with the referral, our referral partners?
10:31Yes, it's the same thing, just like meeting your own salespeople every week.
10:34We do that.
10:35And we also attend training because we do that.
10:38We want to be able to change, you know, the way we do things.
10:42We want to level up our skills.
10:46So, and in every chapter meeting, you get to talk, you get to ask what you want.
10:51So, you say, I want to meet, can you please connect me to a marketing person of this particular company?
10:56And somebody, one of the members might, you know, for sure, somebody will probably say,
11:00yeah, I know that and I'll introduce you to that person.
11:03So, it's so productive and it's so efficient.
11:07So, basically what you're saying now is that there is the collaboration or collab, as a lot of young people would say.
11:14It's really a big thing in BNI.
11:16So, how do you do that?
11:17Oh, that's really one of our biggest thing.
11:20You know, the power team is what we call groups that are related.
11:25They're connected, but they're not competitive.
11:27So, I'll give you an example, like you take, for example, wedding, a wedding, somebody who wants to have a wedding.
11:34If you have a power team in BNI, you can have an event planner, a florist, a venue partner, a caterer, a wedding singer, a photographer, a videographer, a tailor, a gown designer, a limousine service, a honeymoon resort, a bridal registry or gift shop, all in just one power team or two power teams.
11:53And what they do is they work together and they find projects and they find customers so that they can all be able to give business to each other.
12:03In a power team, you're able to generate 67% of your business just from this power team.
12:09And that's what makes it so effective and so real.
12:14So, tell me, what's really the best part of being in BNI?
12:17You know, there's just so many things, but you know what I really love about it is the support system.
12:24It's not just, you know, being able to get all of this, the accountability.
12:28But, you know, when you're a business owner, it's kind of lonely in the top.
12:32You have a lot of problems.
12:33But when you go to BNI, because most of them are business owners, so you get to share what your challenges are.
12:40And they will say, oh, I've been there, you know, that's happened to me.
12:44Here's what I did to help.
12:45And I think it can help you.
12:47So, it's people that, it's like a safe space, you know, when you go there.
12:52So, it's like therapy, it's strategy, and it's like sales team all in one.
12:58Wow.
12:58I mean, you're getting a real, real deal.
13:01So, is BNI just for the big businesses?
13:04I'm just referring because a lot of our viewers are probably the small entrepreneurs, and probably they'll say, oh, those are just for big businesses.
13:15Actually, most of them are small business, but we have also big businesses.
13:19So, we have even freelancers, agents, local businesses who want to scale up their network, those who want to be able to go more national, expand it for other regions, and go even global or go to the ASEAN.
13:34It's like vertical and horizontal expansion.
13:36It's also for big businesses who want to be able to connect to small businesses.
13:42So, that's why we have also large companies who are part of it.
13:46We have banks who are part of it.
13:48We have insurance companies.
13:50We have real estate companies that are part of it because they want to connect to local partners.
13:55So, BNI works if you just have the right mindset, helping others first, and the success will follow.
14:01So, let's talk about how can BNI be something of a nation building.
14:09Yeah, it's definitely going to help the nation.
14:12Can you imagine if every entrepreneur had that giver's gain, what we call the giver's gain, helping others mindset?
14:19We'd be referring, collaborating, and growing together, and our GDP would definitely improve.
14:25MSMEs would scale.
14:27More jobs would be created.
14:29So, BNI is just not networking.
14:31It's how we change the way we do business in the world, in the Philippines and in the world.
14:36Wow.
14:37So powerful, Yayu.
14:39What are your final words?
14:42You know, it's really all about mindset.
14:44When I joined BNI, it really changed the way I look at doing business and helping people.
14:51It's helping others first.
14:52The rest follows.
14:53BNI is not just about business.
14:56It's about building a better future for all of us, especially here in the Philippines.
15:01So, let's all be part of it.
15:02If we can all be part of it, then let us start and be part of that change.
15:08Wow.
15:09It's a big Sunday learning here that we're getting, ladies and gentlemen, from this lady
15:15who talks about, real talk about BNI.
15:18So, again, thank you very much for this enlightenment, Yayu.
15:22Really, you are such a help in terms of tarifying a lot of people's, what they think about BNI.
15:30And I'm sure, where can they get in touch?
15:32I mean, I'm sure there are some people who say, okay, okay, I'm so to it, but I need to
15:36have more information.
15:38Where can they get in touch about BNI?
15:41Well, actually, when they go to the BNI Philippines website, bni.com.ph, or you can email me at
15:50yayu.javier at bni.ph.
15:53But you just look it up, look up in the website and look for Manila West region, which is my
15:58region, and you'll find me and you'll be able to connect there.
16:02But be happy to answer any questions.
16:05You can also look me up at LinkedIn and Facebook.
16:08I'm all over.
16:10You're all over.
16:11You're all over.
16:12But again, that's how entrepreneurs are linking with each other and how you collaborate.
16:18So, anyway, I won't take much of your time, Yayu.
16:20I know it's a Sunday, but you have given a big chunk of insights for all of us.
16:27So, again, on behalf of a business mentor and over at Manila Times, thank you very much
16:32for giving us this pleasure.
16:35Thank you so much for this opportunity.
16:37Have a happy Sunday and a blessed one.
16:39In the eastern hemisphere of the world, where the sails of explorers first touched the shores
16:47of foreign land, within the Philippine archipelago where east met west and the winds carried stories
16:54and spices lies a city where history and enterprise first met.
17:00A melting pot of commerce, culture, and connections.
17:04The old city of Manila, pearl of the orient seas, the gateway of the galleon trade, the anchor
17:11of Asia's earliest commerce, and this spirit of trade lives on presently in its streets, in its markets, in its people.
17:21This is where business breathes history.
17:24But this city is more than trade.
17:27It is the soul of a nation, a living museum, a canvas of heritage and color.
17:33This is where tourism thrives, and more than just travel, it's a journey through identity, heritage, and pride.
17:41Today, a new vessel sets sail.
17:47A chapter born from the same waters that carried galleons, forged in the heart of Manila.
17:53This is the BNI galleon.
17:58And we are the gallant galleoners of this chapter, built to trade ideas and grow enterprises,
18:05to showcase the soul of our trade, and open our doors to the world.
18:10Setting sail towards a future where business and culture thrive together.
18:16With its sail set high, this ship shall cross borders, build bridges, and conquer the seven.
18:22It's anchored in history, propelled by purpose.
18:26BNI galleon is ready to lead, with trust, with heart, with vision.
18:37BNI galleon sailing through connections, steering toward growth.
