00:00for nearly a decade the garden rescue team have made dreams come true for hundreds of garden
00:09owners across the UK oh wow it's absolutely stunning thank you so much thank you very much
00:26no matter the challenge it's just coming down a little harder the rain if this weather keeps on
00:32as it is we're not going to have any of this here and no matter the garden I tell you what Flo it's a
00:38little bit smaller than I thought we've got the job done that's brilliant but the one question I
00:44always get asked is what happens to the gardens after we leave well now wow are we blooming it
00:54it's my turn to be amazed that's grown into a bar I'm going back been a long time
01:01to my favorite garden rescues five years including some of our very first to find out what happened
01:18we should have called it the dim actually after we packed up our spades I'm very excited to see the
01:24garden it has gone huge we've picked the perfect day to show you around the sun is shining the
01:31garden's looking beautiful it's fabulous this time in the Cotswolds hello Charlotte Grigg I see for
01:44myself how a blank canvas has been replaced with a mouthwatering country garden retreat we've had lots
01:51and lots of fun growing potatoes among two I don't know about you but whenever I've grown veg with
01:57children they actually eat those ones yeah catch up with a garden in Birmingham that needed some major TLC
02:07do you still love the garden yeah do you it's just been amazing you know we can't thank the team
02:12enough really it's just for so much and I head to Milton Keynes to discover what's happened to a garden
02:20we transformed six years ago you've done a fantastic job looking after it Charlie this is a dream garden for
02:27us now over the years the garden rescue team have been lucky enough to build gardens in some of the
02:37prettiest parts of Britain one of my favorites was in the Cotswolds where the rich brothers and Aret found
02:44themselves four years ago this is Charlotte and Greg's garden in Morton in Marsh in the Cotswolds their
02:52daughter winter their son Albert and shadow the dog now the whole family relocated recently from Dubai to
02:58a beautiful part of the world what they're looking for is to have a country cottage garden one that is
03:05typical of the Cotswolds area Charlotte and Greg's garden was a complete blank canvas this is our garden we
03:14have a lot of green space a beautiful wall that goes all the way around it red brick wall a lot of
03:22grass and it's waiting to come alive the couple had four thousand five hundred pounds to spend and had
03:31already built a vegetable patch yeah it's been a lovely summer of creating some beautiful fresh produce
03:38so Aret proposed a design that moved there grow your own patch to a more convenient spot so I've
03:44brought it nearer to the house and given you a raised bed for you to be able to have your herbs and
03:49vegetables this patio area has been extended so that you've got enough sitting area for a table
03:55and your sofa I love that but those cheeky rich brothers had a trick up their sleeves we know that
04:03you wanted to have a Cotswold country garden somewhere that had a nice bit of formality but
04:08also some informality through the plants we wanted to create a bit more of an informal atmosphere so
04:14that's why we've got this nice bound gravel on the floor the gravel leads to the evening bar area so
04:20it's going to be an elevated bar you can have some stools there and it's somewhere you can just relax and
04:25enjoy the last little bit of sun it just have a bar in our garden it's going to be so cool and so
04:31picking a winner was actually quite straightforward and the winner is the rich brothers really just
04:41just fabulous we're really excited that was the easy part face we've got to do a bit of preparation
04:51first and then all hands on oak with nothing to clear from the garden there was plenty to bring
04:59in starting with 500 pounds worth of oak for the bar pergola and raised beds I'm just putting the
05:07basic structure of the bar together as well as the new patio to lay for Kyle the tricky thing is when
05:18when trying to do this is match the existing slabs but the boys have actually done a really nice job
05:22with these and a pergola to get up now the the timbers here have been screwed together keep them
05:29nice and firm but as you can see gruff's just putting in little oak plugs all that's doing is
05:35it's going in the hole of the screw went in but it's just covering the screw head so when you look at
05:38it it looks as if you're using almost a traditional way of building where it's no joints and then the
05:44nook pegs that go through to hold it next the planting started to take shape now Greg and Charlotte
05:51really like the idea of having quite a romantic almost quite country garden now when you think of
05:58that you think of perhaps roses and lavender so they were the two plants that we definitely wanted
06:03to filter into these planting beds the trees are doing a really important job in this garden they're
06:15controlling it but they're not dominating it inside the pergola we've got an espalliated apple tree lots
06:21of control going on there it's not taking up much space at all but it's really utilizing this warm
06:27south facing wall and finally thanks to loads of perennials grasses and evergreen hedges Greg and
06:35Charlotte's new garden was ready for them to see what had been a vast open space was now more like an
06:46established old country garden three two one open your eyes oh my gosh wow I'm actually speechless oh
06:57look at that it's so beautiful thank you oh thank you so much you clever guys amazing I'm never short of
07:07words I'm never short of words wow from that boring nothingness oh my goodness mate I mean wonderful
07:14there's let there's so much in the garden yeah lots of plants in the garden things like roses
07:24lavender rosemary thank you so much should we go and have a little I'd love to yeah okay we've got
07:30the wisteria on this side and a rose on that side so you can train it up and around and it'll kind of
07:35cascade down it's a dream come true it was a vision wanting you here and to have it realized today is
07:42it's so beautiful Greg and Charlotte loved the garden four years ago but what I want to know is has the
07:49love blossomed into their dream space hello Charlotte Greg morning good morning it's a pleasure to see you
07:58welcome to Morton in Marsh yes now I have to say I saw the program and Harry and David really nailed
08:06that Cotswoldy theme to the garden didn't they oh absolutely we're absolutely thrilled with it we were
08:13taking back at the time and and it's even better now in four years Greg and Charlotte's garden has
08:21undergone a dramatic change when we left the planting in the newly laid patio area was yet to mature now
08:29the beds are blooming back then the newly raised veg patch was just soil now fresh fruit and veg is popping up
08:40for the family to enjoy oh I can see the veg we've got a bit smaller scale this year but obviously four
08:48years of sort of harvesting and production and the children being very involved as well we've had lots
08:54and lots of fun growing potatoes of mange too and tomatoes tomatoes sweet corn yeah that's fantastic
09:02it's really good for the children as well you know they learn about where their food comes from and
09:07growing it I don't know about you but whenever I've grown veg with children they actually eat those
09:12ones yeah it's true when they're so involved absolutely when we had finished the pergola and
09:20its new surrounding plants were still young now the hedges have flourished along with the new trees so the
09:27pergola is it's a nice space and is that the apple tree espaliered on the wall yes it is and we've had some
09:35lovely harvest from that as well Greg's become I wouldn't say an expert become quite good at pruning
09:42it it's grown very vigorously though this year so I might need a few tips on that that'll be all that
09:48rain we've had so what you'll need to do this year is you see all those long wispy bits that have come
09:54out yeah you need to summer prune and take those back by two-thirds right okay just take those back
10:01so it keeps the shape and then you build up these fruiting spurs and it it will stop a lot of that
10:06excess growth so it all goes into the fruit rather than into making more branches yes okay that's good
10:13because it looks very green but we need a bit more fruit this season four years ago the planting in
10:20the center of the garden was yet mature now the perennials and grasses have grown so much it feels
10:26more like an established old country garden this has been really exceptional and has just taken really
10:33well it changes every year though some of the plants have kind of come back some don't we found the
10:39grasses really are quite vigorous yeah and so have moved a couple of them out so grasses you know
10:45that once they get going they can really get going so it's quite fine to dig them up and split them
10:50through and as with all sort of herbaceous type plants when you split them through you know you want
10:59to save the younger bits and chuck the older bits because the younger bits are going to be the nice
11:04healthier vigorous plants so you could split them through no problem at all but with your perennials
11:11you find some perennials are shorter lived and some are longer lived yeah that's part of the garden just
11:16developing really so we are so over the moon that we had garden rescue it was an absolute game changer to
11:28us being here and feeling settled here and creating this amazing space we're thrilled we had garden
11:35rescue come and design the garden and four years on it really has delivered what I love about it is you've
11:42got that formality with the informality and they just contrast and such lovely spaces for you to use as a
11:50family absolutely good on you well done the garden looks fantastic I hope I've been able to help you
12:00out with a couple of things and keep up the good work oh thank you so much Charlie lovely to see you
12:08thank you thank you very much we appreciate it so much see you in another five years okay
12:12I'm loving how Greg and Charlotte's garden turned out but my next garden revisit was a very different
12:25challenge I'm back in a sunny Milton Keynes where six years ago Vinnie and Renute's garden was transformed
12:33by the rich brothers garden was very plain and patio area was uneven all the slabs were coming off and the
12:44drainage area had damage so it was a risk as well we were hardly using the garden basically it was
12:51like a dead square piece very dull and very boring they both enjoy gardening but a lack of time meant the
13:01couple needed help and that's where Harry David and I came in what would you like from the garden the
13:08only thing which probably we need a lot of color in this garden you is that what you would like more
13:13color in the garden yes because in the interior of my house I have used a lot of colors and color brings
13:20happiness to your life it makes you smile doesn't it I mean I see that you've got lots of seats around
13:26the garden and places to relax entertainment is key for us we we do lots and lots of barbecue during
13:33summer and I want our friends family to enjoy he is very popular among our friends and family for his
13:41barbecue which we thought we should reflected more seating space and maybe some herbs and vegetables in
13:49the garden that would be fantastic yeah yeah picking up my own mint if I'm making my hito that's not
13:56really barbecuing my hito it has to it has to go the food has to go the drink and the food has to go
14:02together we are Hindus and Hinduism is all about love peace peace with nature and I think a vibrant garden
14:13is a true reflection of what we believe they do also like the idea of a sort of meditation area
14:20so a nice lively side of the garden then also a nice relaxing quiet side of the garden as well
14:25that's the one it looks like a pretty large garden and there's not that much in it so what's the budget
14:31the budget's three thousand okay it's all right yeah you know so there's a lot of work there but three
14:37grand can go quite far the boys and I wasted no time coming up with our designs so your patio area
14:44down here I've just rearranged it leveled it made it more usable but the main entertainment area is
14:52this new patio further up the garden and then coming down here an ornate pathway with lots of herbs running
15:01through it so as you tread on them you'll get that scent leading to this area here where you can
15:07sit and meditate my design took a more traditional approach while Harry and David's design was more
15:14contemporary what we thought would be very necessary in the garden is to have a larger patio area at the
15:20moment it's really thin small and most of its trip hazard so what we'd like to do is remove all of that
15:26and then repave it with a nice natural stone but large enough that you can have a lovely big family
15:32table there nice way to incorporate color into the garden also to provide more seating for when you
15:37have people around is to actually put these walls into a garden there's reasons for the colors we've
15:43chosen so this burnt orange burnt yellow is turmeric and then we want to go for this kind of purpley dark
15:49purpley blue is juniper and then it's saffron yeah and then the plants that we've got running through
15:55here are gonna be nice and vibrant and colorful as well you said you like to meditate it creates this
16:00lovely spot just sitting amongst the shrubs in this lovely natural space where you can sit relax and it
16:06should enjoy a slightly more tranquil side of the garden both our designs created spaces to entertain
16:12and to relax for Vinnie and Renouk choosing between the two wasn't easy when we saw both designs in fact
16:19both design amazing amazing we both were like you know we wanted both but there was very little
16:27between two designs and in fact very difficult for us yes but a decision had to be made you're making it
16:35difficult for us but yeah we picked up rich brothers and not Charlie there was very subtle difference in
16:50Charlie's design the entertainment area was on the back side of the house and we wanted something which
16:58is closer to the house so that there is cooking happening in the kitchen and you straight go into
17:03the garden and saw the food so maybe we thought we were finding out reasons to choose a design and that was
17:09one of the reason it was then up to the team to bring David and Harry's design to life and with the
17:16entertainment space top of the wish list we needed to get cracking two big problems here are the patio paving
17:24and that grass and I tell you guys that is rock hard all coming up with a huge area of patio and lawn to dig out
17:32it was a back-breaking start to the project but with the new slabs going down the summer house got a
17:44facelift and work began on the rich brothers walls David and Harry and I couldn't wait to get involved
17:53too wow look at this hey well the patio looks incredible the team have done a fantastic job at laying
18:01this lovely dark limestone and it's a far cry from what was here before David got to work on his colored
18:08walls tell you what this rendering jobs easier than it looks isn't it it's almost like baking a cake I feel
18:16I would just burn on the icing I do love a bit of decoration whilst I took inspiration from some bamboo
18:23I found in the garden to concoct an off-plan mini bar for Vinay so to make the bar look a little bit more
18:32bar-like I'm using Vinay and Renouk's bamboo they've got a great big clump of bamboo in the corner of the garden
18:41which is fantastic looks great but of course it's also useful for getting canes with Harry busy
18:48making a bespoke table it was time for the planting
18:57it was really key that this garden was full of life and full of colour and that's one of the reasons
19:02that we're using this gorgeous rowan or mountain ash now it's a small tree so it's not going to
19:09dominate this space but what it will do is add loads of colour
19:21we've got things like hazel which has a lovely golden tone which comes in early we've also got
19:27cornice which again has a lovely autumn colour and is really well known for its winter form and
19:32colour through the stems but you've also got something like this rose tottering by gently
19:36its lovely soft yellow tone but really this garden is all about linking in with the bold colours of the
19:41wall with the beautiful change in colour in through the shrubs with the gravel paths laid for the
19:48meditation zone of the garden there was just time for some spiritual touches before Vinay and Renouk
19:54got a first look three two one open your eyes
19:59oh my god wow this is awesome yes come on
20:10this is that's good then i take it look at that nice oh my god it's totally changed yeah
20:17it's absolutely amazing we were really shocked and we didn't expect uh that it's going to turn out
20:29to be so beautiful what had been a large empty square of garden was now a space fit for entertaining
20:36and meditation with a large patio complete with bespoke table and colourful seating walls
20:43and a quiet more reflective area with gentle planting and revamped summer house
20:52i have not even imagined that this would be the change oh really i have not imagined i've seen the
20:57pictures i've shown shown us the design and we knew there would be some walls we knew well there would
21:05be a quiet place there oh but charlie's also been really busy she's built a beautiful mojito bar
21:13that's beautiful because she has used in fact bamboos from yeah it's all recycled here i know i know now
21:20where i can find vinay very very clever yes beautiful just amazing everything we wanted and it's it's
21:28fantastic i can just sum it up in one word that's fantastic that was six years ago and i'm keen to see
21:34for myself what's changed we are excited to show our garden to charlie but at the same time we are
21:41also nervous because we did not select her design oh here we go
21:46hello
21:55so good one so good to see you
21:58now i know it wasn't my garden because you chose the rich brothers i'll let you off
22:06but i'm very excited to see the garden off we go
22:11this is exciting oh my goodness renoke it's changed so much
22:19it has look at this meadow oh it's absolutely gorgeous it's so colorful even though we're what
22:25where are we we're sort of mid-july and it's still looking absolutely gorgeous
22:32what looked different back then is even more different now this garden basically it's a retreat
22:39for me when you know hustle bustle and it's just so peaceful here and i just find it so good
22:47so the whole thing was having a big socializing area but then also somewhere that you could just chill
22:52this is great vinay which is your favorite part of the garden i would say bar
22:57after after having few drinks next day if you want to calm your mind yeah meditation meditation
23:07meditation that was over there yeah now the heart was already there the summer house yeah summer
23:13house was there yeah it wasn't that color i changed the color we just wanted to camouflage with
23:19everything the garden so i can't wait to explore six years ago top of the wish list was a proper
23:26entertaining space and harry and david certainly delivered i'm excited to see how it looks now
23:33you still got harry's pension seats yeah wasn't this color was it this was natural color okay
23:40we painted green painted green to match with the summer house the summer house right okay i remember
23:48when you walked out because this area here was defined by the walls remind me of the colors again they
23:53were juniper saffron turmeric turmeric and it is all in sync with uh with the nature yeah the colors and
24:03it really does define this socializing area i know socializing was a really big thing for you wasn't it
24:11it is because like the month of august in this space itself in this garden we accumulated about 80 to 90
24:19people so this place was buzzing whenever we have got parties of friends coming over we prefer
24:25outside and our friends also like they say we don't want to sit in we want to go out
24:31six years on and the entertainment area is proving its worth but what about the rest of the garden
24:38i mean look at it i said you know give it a year and this meadow will be up to almost waist height
24:44and it is look fantastic and what i love are the trees in this garden people get very nervous about
24:50putting trees in a small garden but look it's fantastic dappled shade because sometimes you
24:56want to sit in the shade the berries and of course those flower in the spring so for the wildlife and
25:01also it's very natural and i love the way it changes the color with the season and i have to say vinay this
25:09is great so you've this dogwood you've you've crown lifted it so you've got the texture of the semes
25:15nice snail there a cute little snail but you've still got the canopy that just adds height and when
25:21you add height to a garden like this it makes the garden feel bigger bigger yes i mean it is amazing
25:27come back six years later i mean they have grown and shot up so much because they were sort of this
25:33little height weren't they look at this it is like a woodland walk isn't it yeah which plants do you
25:40like here this purple one here which plants do you like here this purple one here right so this is it's
25:46a hardy geranium so it's more of an ornament this is it's a hardy geranium so it's more of an ornamental
25:51but you can actually plant it into the meadow turf because it will take being chopped down and it flowers
25:57and flowers and it's also known as crane's bill because if you look at the seed head it looks like
26:03the bill of a crane a bird yeah so it's gorgeous isn't it i i i like this yeah and the combination
26:11of purple and yellow makes it very special yeah it does looks gorgeous and you've got two different
26:16yellows there you've got st john's wort which is native and then that's the bird's foot trefoil
26:20this is going to my area now i was responsible for this bit of the garden wasn't i what was
26:29originally designed to be the meditation area of the garden has kept its promise as a place to unwind
26:37this garden gives us love peace very close to the nature and mainly peace of mind actually where's my
26:46bar gone we have moved the bar because here we could do two or three in the bar all right and
26:53we have moved to new place where we can have 20 or 30 okay so the bath who are very popular yes i
26:59thought you'd got rid of it back then but it has got a new color a new color as well yes so i do remember
27:05this area was going to be the the quiet zone so do you use this area for meditation this is my favorite
27:11place in the morning i come here i have my tea and then i do meditation and my breathing exercise
27:18like can you listen to the birds chirping now so the early morning it's even more and it just sets
27:24you up for the day doesn't even when it rains or when it's cold uh because we go into our summer house
27:31there if it's really open the door just surrounded by nature yeah what could be better absolutely maybe a
27:38mojito six years ago i had a hoop designing a mini bar for finney i can't wait to see how it looks now
27:48well there is the bar i have to say i mean it's looking good lack of mint there finney all mint
27:54used for mojitos okay okay perhaps we can shush that up it's amazing you know that's basically just a
28:01palette that we up cycled but very practical do you use it a lot very practical and it can cater to many
28:07people my bars certainly get in good use but it could do with a spot of tlc
28:15pop that down there finney oh vinney this rose doesn't look too happy
28:20we are struggling with this rose is it because it is in the shade of the bar it won't be the shade
28:25what i can see is the obvious sort of problem is that the soil has eroded from around the roots
28:32so it's struggling so like these roots are exposed come the autumn what i would suggest is that you
28:38cut it back hard and just replant it sort of maybe somewhere else to the side and plant it so that the
28:46soil is at this level okay so you can see these are all the roots and all you need to do with these is
28:51just pick off the sort of most diseased leaves and don't put them in the compost put them in your
28:57your green bin yeah and dispose of them so here vinnie have a leaf for the bin back to the bar and
29:04some new plants to add to the basics i potted six years ago right vinnie here you go i've got some mint to
29:12go in here but i thought because you like your cocktails and you like making them look pretty yes i do so
29:18these are scented geraniums so you squish the leaves oh lemon and real citrus lemon citrus citrus
29:28and this one is the same as well so i'm going to get you to put them in the pots you can use the
29:33petals to dress the drinks with but they're not hardy so come the winter time you need to move them
29:40either very close to the house so they're out of the rain but protected or you can move them in onto
29:46the windowsill to keep them going and you can tip them back and they're really easy to take cuttings
29:51off as well so if you pop those up hopefully you'll keep those going for many years yes look at that
29:57you've done that before yeah so recycling the compost so remind me vinnie what is in a majita made of mint
30:07sugar lemon and of course rum rum so i've got some mint to replace your other one and the good thing
30:14about putting mint in a container is it keeps it under control because if you plant it in the garden
30:20it can really take off johnny how does this that's that's fine so that's good yeah that's fine you've
30:27got a nice gap between the top of the soil and the top of the pot so that's ideal so that's that one done
30:37now vinay's gone off to get all the gear ready because he's going to make me
30:41a mojito or show me how to do it so he's getting all his bits and bobs together so i'm going to
30:46plant up the planter with a few extra things so i want it to be a bit of a surprise for him so we've
30:52got some mints this one is chocolate mint so it's got a more purple tinge to it as part from the mints
30:58i've also got apple mint which is just the most loveliest oh lovely lovely but then i wanted to give
31:07him a couple of things that he can use to dress the cocktails with as well so we've got dianthus
31:14they've got the smell of cloves to them and you can use the petals to dress salads or go in fruit
31:20salads or of course in cocktails and you literally just pluck the petals off and use those and then
31:29because vinnie really likes that yellow orange color i've got him a calendula and you can use the
31:35petals again to dress drinks and salads there you go look at that revitalized and all zhuzhed up ready
31:44for ranuk and vinay's next party it's just time for a quick cocktail lesson for me
31:52wow this is amazing a lot of colors yeah and a lot of herbs now yeah so show us your cocktail making
31:59skills then vinay so let's try with new herbs pick the tops out there you go you smell that beautiful
32:08fresh as
32:13most important ingredient big slug of white rum
32:17whoa that's a lot vinay shake it
32:20my new decorative flowers are being put straight to use look at that well my oh my cheers well cheers
32:39vinnie and ranuk's garden has been on quite a journey from the square and unloved plot we first took on
32:46to the vibrant entertainment spot and peaceful meditation space we built and now six years later
32:55it's really come into its own i have to say guys i mean i can see why you love the garden it is so
33:01tranquil so much wildlife and the color and the scent you've done a fantastic job looking after it thank
33:09you thank you thank you very much charlie this is a dream garden for us now i've just about got over
33:15the fact that you picked harry and david across the years we've created many produce growing plots
33:29it's incredible look at the chilies the peppers is that basil what we've done is we've planted a mix
33:34of edibles such as strawberries mint it's everything i need and water-filled retreats for those in need
33:41of a sanctuary on a hot day i can imagine getting my feet up in there yeah i can do that too in which
33:46to unwind just look at everything around here my final garden was created with relaxation and produce
33:54in mind wow lots of paving lots of paint i mean little signs of green life yeah strawberries mint yeah
34:02five years ago ara and i visited sharina and her husband abu in birmingham they were frustrated
34:10by their first ever gardens lack of well garden the garden is just slabs not very pretty to look at
34:20no interest at all that's one thing we're not proud of our garden at the moment it is that
34:26typical concrete garden you certainly wouldn't be relaxing in this space since i've come to this
34:31country which is roughly 1990 and all the homes i've lived in and did not have a garden
34:38so now we've we have got a garden i just can't get the time to do anything with it
34:45sharina and abu were desperate for help so it's a lovely big garden and somebody's into a bit of
34:52gardening yeah yeah that would be me yeah so um it's just me i like cooking so i enjoy vegetables and herbs
34:59i come from bangladesh and over there we have a lot of fruit trees but more of exotic fruits so you've
35:07got mango papaya um i know birmingham is very exotic but i'm afraid we won't be able to grow
35:14those things but okay there's no reason why we can't have apple cherries maybe peach so fruit trees are a
35:22definite for you then in the garden um yeah yeah yeah yeah maybe a bit of water features a little bit
35:28of water as well you want a little bit of everything don't you yeah the couple trusted my design to
35:34deliver a garden for relaxation and produce with its large and raised veg beds a pergola to relax in
35:44and a water feature let's try it i created a patio and pergola to dominate the main central space
35:58but the main feature for abu and for me is this raised pond it's great perching height and i know
36:05it's breeze block at the moment but what we're going to do is clad it in the paving to give
36:10and quite a modern sleek feel and then this will all be lovely and shady we've gone for these gorgeous
36:18mild steel panels and what i'm going to do is not only have them up on the roof we're having them
36:24on the sides so this will make this area very private and intimate for abu and sharina
36:30while the team worked their magic with the detailing on the pond
36:40ara and i filled the space with fruit trees and veg got red apple here cherry here and then we've got
36:49damsons over there so just getting the herbs and some of the veg into the bed i think it was a nice
36:54idea to anchor it with the crab apple but we've got vietnamese coriander as well as just you know our
37:00ordinary uh coriander so that thought that would be a really nice touch go swimming fishies
37:09with fish added to the pond the garden was ready to show sharina and abu
37:13do you want to open your eyes inshallah wow oh my god oh my god it's so amazing oh it looks like a show
37:29god the once grey concrete garden was now full of produce and life a perfect urban retreat you've
37:40got your raised bed full of vegetables and herbs oh i can't believe it can't believe it
37:50i can show off my garden that's that's all that we finally got a garden yeah well you've never had
37:55a garden i've never had a garden but what do you think of the pergola i love fantastic i love it
38:02i love the um metalwork it's sort of quite modern but it is modern traditional at the same time
38:09that's what i like yeah that's what we wanted then yeah your raised fish belt feel like taking a
38:13dip in this weather oh my god yes you brought the fish in yeah thank you that's me today
38:24you know we just don't know how to thank you enough yeah it's it is it just looks amazing
38:30oh my god it looks so good and then we wander on down to the other end of the garden which is all the
38:36orchard fruits we've got a red apple and a damson because i know abu you said yeah the red and the
38:43green fruits yeah five a day
38:49five years on sharina and abu are still in birmingham and their garden has transformed
38:57the young planting has matured and sharina and abu are even more content with their space
39:03do you still love the garden yeah do you i love it yeah i mean we've had it for a couple of years
39:11now and we've just got so much joy out of it haven't we the garden has given us a lot it's been like
39:18our sanctuary when we had the garden done the following year we both were working from home
39:24so it was it was like a godsend it was calming we were able to reflect it's just been amazing
39:39this garden went from concrete car park to urban sanctuary
39:45and now it's grown planting like the apple tree is even more productive than ever it was really
39:52quite small wasn't it it's gone quite big and it produces quite a lot of apple more than that we
39:57can eat you can see like a lot on there now we're gonna have to pick some out so they can get quite
40:02big yeah neighbors will be happy it's got quite a lot of apple this year so they'll be happy when you
40:07take them around yeah yeah garden rescue has started a newfound passion for both of us we're kin
40:15gardeners so every spring every winter we we just keep on top of it and just make sure we maintain it
40:22um and i think that's probably why it's thriving as well we just learnt along the way but now there's
40:28more to this garden than the plants and trees we brought in abu and sharina have been busy they've
40:35introduced their own planting like the asa tree and gooseberry and then we've got the little daisies we
40:43get a lot of color throughout the season and abu's been busy with the wood the team left behind
40:50at the pond area this is your favorite part of the garden isn't it the pond yeah i i i enjoy seeing
40:56yeah watch the fish but you can see here because you built this bench and the bench over there and
41:03it's nice for me because then it's nice and enclosed so i can sit here and enjoy the fish
41:07we've added in little cozy areas little nooks so it's nice for us to come out sit down it's inviting
41:17and we've still got the fish in the pond and that was a nice surprise for both of us
41:21so they're still there they're still thriving to be fair you do look after the fish in the pond
41:26so so that's your contribution to the garden it is it is abu's introduced shelving at the potting station too
41:38while sharina's added finishing touches to the pergola they were meant to rust weren't they and
41:45we left it for the first year and then i didn't like it so we just painted it um back to its original
41:52color and it looks much better we let it rust on the top which looks nice so we get a bit of both
42:00finding produce as well as peace was the reason the couple initially wanted their garden rescued
42:07and the produce area is thriving so we've got the original crab apple tree that charlie planted and
42:14look you can see so many on there and we've still got the strawberries from what charlie left behind so
42:20we get a lot of strawberries started doing some spinach as well haven't you yeah this year we've
42:24put some swiss chard in we made a spinach curry it was very nice actually well that's that's the
42:31difference between shop bought spinach and homegrown spinach yeah we're always interchanging the
42:36vegetable patch so we every year we're doing something new when we pick our own vegetables i mean
42:41you can tell that it tastes better than what you get from the shops because it's just fresh isn't it
42:46it brings satisfaction to the cooking and to know that it's come from your own garden
42:56it's just been amazing you know we can't thank the team enough really yeah it's just bought so much
43:04thank you garden rescue it's been great to see the gardens we built looking better than ever
43:11but the joy for me is discovering how the owners have come to love them
43:16it's not just a garden that was built for them it's their garden now
43:40you
43:50you
