00:00Mark the movement, people, on the early line on a Friday morning
00:03because we always take a look at the season, right?
00:05Ooh, we have a lot of fun from, you know, February and March
00:08and lining up the World Series odds and once teams take the field in April
00:11and early May and then the All-Star break.
00:13But the big one here is the trade deadline because teams do improve themselves.
00:17I always used to talk about the Los Angeles Dodgers, Joe, saying, you know,
00:20the team that they're going to have now, not the team they're going to have
00:22at the deadline, similar to many teams.
00:24Same thing with the Padres.
00:25I think the Padres are a better team today.
00:26I think the Yankees are a better team today.
00:28I think the Philadelphia Phillies are a better team today.
00:30Same thing with the New York Mets.
00:31So the haves and the have-nots, as we like to talk about.
00:33But if you look at some of the odds, particularly with the Dodgers,
00:37how about this, though?
00:38The Dodgers were a plus-220 price on Monday to win the World Series.
00:42The Dodgers today, Joe, they're a plus-240 price, and I want to start there
00:45because so many times, including myself, we always figure that the Dodgers
00:49at the trade deadline will win the day.
00:52More money to spend than anybody else, more prospects than anybody,
00:54and they feel they have a need to fill.
00:56They're going to go out and get the best prospect.
00:58Now, granted, if it maybe was the bullpen, they didn't really want to fortify
01:01because they have a pretty good one.
01:02Understandable.
01:03There weren't unbelievable bats out there in the marketplace
01:05outside of Eugenio Suarez, and maybe they didn't want to just dip
01:08into that prospect pool to get that player.
01:10But it's interesting to me where, like, the first time you see it,
01:13that's like a losing streak.
01:14Like, the Dodgers lost a price point.
01:16Why?
01:17Because the team in their division got really good,
01:19and that was the Padres, Joe.
01:20Yeah, well, exactly.
01:23And the Padres, and again, A.J. Pell, are one of the most aggressive
01:27general managers in all of Major League Baseball,
01:30and you've got to love that.
01:31If you're a Padres fan, then you know there's no question in your mind
01:36with this GM that if he thinks he's got a shot,
01:40he's going to be pushing chips all in.
01:42He's going to do whatever he's got to do to make this team better.
01:44It has been more exciting with Padres baseball over the last three
01:49and four years, Donnie, than it has been in a very, very long time.
01:54But ultimately, it's going to come down to it,
01:56because the Dodgers didn't do a whole lot.
01:58I mean, they kind of, you know, they had a little bit of depth.
02:02They got rid of Dusty May.
02:04They, you know, okay, great.
02:07Is it enough?
02:08Ultimately, it's going to be the question.
02:10Is it enough for the Padres who ultimately in the postseason,
02:13even with all those high-priced names and players
02:17over the last couple of years, still couldn't catch the Dodgers?
02:20Will it be enough this year,
02:22especially with Otani coming back into the rotation?
02:25It's going to be interesting.
