In recognition of a visionary life dedicated to empowering communities, strengthening cross-cultural understanding, and advancing ethical entrepreneurship, the Icons of Change Awards 2025 proudly honors Dr. Fakhrul Islam Babu 孫逸仙—a transformative leader whose legacy embodies the spirit of unity in diversity, and whose work transcends borders, ideologies, and identities.
Born in Chandpur, Bangladesh, and now a proud naturalized Chinese citizen residing in Hong Kong SAR, Dr. Fakhrul’s life reflects the ideals of global citizenship forged through humility, perseverance, and purpose. His early upbringing, rich in moral values, discipline, and cultural pride, set the stage for a lifelong journey of service and leadership. From a modest childhood grounded in community and faith, he emerged as a dynamic force for social transformation across Asia.
As Founder and Group Chairman of MEXIMCO Group, Dr. Fakhrul has established a multinational enterprise that embodies ethical trade, inclusive growth, and South-South cooperation. His business acumen is matched by his unwavering commitment to social development, having created thousands of jobs and strengthened economic linkages between China, Bangladesh, India, and Hong Kong. His approach to business is not merely transactional—it is transformational, rooted in the belief that commerce must serve the common good.
A relentless advocate of cross-cultural diplomacy, he founded the China-Bangladesh Friendship Center to promote bilateral understanding, cultural dialogue, and people-to-people connectivity. Through this platform—and as President of Asian Club Limited and leader of the Hong Kong Association of Naturalized Chinese—he has created inclusive spaces that amplify marginalized voices, protect the rights of new citizens, and champion social integration.
Guided by his modern adaptation of the “Three Principles of the People”—ethnic harmony, public opinion, and livelihood—Dr. Fakhrul's advocacy is both visionary and pragmatic. He is a quiet architect of social cohesion in a region often marked by complex identities and histories. His work resonates deeply with SDG 16: Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions, proving that dignity, representation, and justice are not ideals to be negotiated—they are foundations to be built.
Dr. Fakhrul’s engagement in public governance—serving as a District National Security Law Tutor, Area Committee Member, and Care Team volunteer in Hong Kong—underscores his belief that civic responsibility is not optional; it is integral to nation-building.

00:00Hello everyone. As-salamu alaykum and peace to all. I am Dr. Fakrur Islam Babu. I'm very happy and grateful to receive the Icon of Change Award 2025. I want to thank the organizers for giving me this special honor.
00:19I have been working with Rotary International and other social groups for many years. I believe that true changes start when we listen carefully with kindness, purpose and bravery. When we put service above ourselves.
00:37Right now, I'm proud to support Talk Hope, a platform in Bangladesh that helps prevent suicide. Its goal is to bring hope and listen to people who are going through dark times.
00:52This award is not just about me. It's a reminder that our combined efforts can make a difference.
01:02I dedicate this honor to the change makers out there. Those who choose hope over fear, service over silence and action over ignoring problems.
01:14Thank you again to the organizer for inspiring us to keep working with kindness, courage and hope.
01:23Let's continue to make a difference one life at a time. Let's work for a world without property, pollution and war. God bless us. Thank you.
