The final days of July will bring flash flood risks to Colorado.
Transcript
00:00It has been hot and muggy, even more so than we're used to here along the Colorado Front Range,
00:05but a break from that humidity, unfortunately, is going to come with the price in terms of severe weather
00:11and potentially some flash flood potential, mainly along the Front Range Urban Corridor.
00:15We're talking about that I-25 corridor, basically from the Wyoming border down to the New Mexico border.
00:21We're really going to be tracking the areas here from Denver and south toward Colorado Springs and Pueblo
00:26for that potential to see that brief severe weather threat, but mainly going to be a flash flood threat.
00:32We've seen this here over the last couple of weeks, off and on, where we get into these active patterns.
00:37Last week, for instance, up in northern Colorado, we saw some pretty substantial flooding in the town of Greeley,
00:43a little college town up there, home of the UNC Bears.
00:45They saw some pretty heavy rain there last Thursday that flooded a bunch of streets in that area,
00:50stalling some cars, creating some issue.
00:52Even got a little bit of hail out of some of those storms as well.
00:55Not expecting big, severe weather today.
00:57There is certainly that potential.
00:58We could see a couple of severe storms, mainly with some larger hail and potentially some damaging winds with that.
01:04But it's going to be the heavy rain as these storms are going to be slow moving.
01:08And again, as I mentioned, we talk about the humidity here along the Front Range.
01:13Much, much higher than we typically see.
01:15It has been very, very humid, so a lot of moisture in the air for those storms to work with.
01:18That is going to lead to that flash flood threat today and possibly again tomorrow.
01:23I'll be tracking those storms here over the next couple of days along the Front Range.
01:26So certainly, again, if you are on the roads when those rains hit, turn around, don't drown.
01:30Reporting for AccuWeather on the Long Colorado Front Range, I'm meteorologist Tony Lawback.
