00:42Roxy looks fired up. She had an incredible fight camp.
00:47She talked to us about her dream came true this camp and her ability to go and work with her idol.
00:54Lifelong idol, which is Katie Taylor, one of the greatest female boxers of all time.
01:00And she talked to us about how humbling that experience was for her.
01:04How motivating and inspiring it was for her.
01:07Katie told her she was the best sparring session she had ever had.
01:10And you know that that gives not only confidence but confirmation in her skill set and in the work that's being done for Roxy.
01:21I don't think Roxy needed to hear that to believe in herself.
01:24I think she possesses those skills.
01:25But to have like you said that affirmation from one of the best to ever do it.
01:29I just that's going to elevate your motivation in your game and just your confidence level like you said.
01:35And quite a quite a unique experience for Roxy Verduzco.
01:40Roxy doing a great job of just staying right outside, moving around, finding her openings.
01:47That beautiful right hook of hers is landing perfectly tonight thus far.
01:53We talk about that spotlight on Roxy.
01:57You know she's starting to get a lot of buzz and attention and like you said turning into the face of women's boxing.
02:05But not a lot of athletes want to step up and fight her right now.
02:09She's so talented.
02:10I mean she has an incredible amateur career.
02:13Over 110 fights.
02:15She's won multiple national titles, international titles.
02:19You know she made it to the Olympic trials.
02:22Roxy has been fighting and training since she was six years old.
02:26She had her first fight at eight years old.
02:29And again her mom is who really helped pave the way.
02:32Her mom is such a huge part of her career.
02:35A big supporter.
02:36They have this beautiful relationship between the two when they know when mom is on.
02:42They know when coach is on.
02:43I mean it's just it's such a beautiful thing to see.
02:46And it's so rare in this sport to witness.
02:49And you talk about that relationship with her mom Gloria.
02:53And Roxy's talked about you know life after boxing as well.
02:57She says there is no life really after boxing.
03:00Because boxing is always going to be a part of her life.
03:02It's been basically the family business.
03:04And it's really unique to see a young woman at just 23 years old who's focused on her career.
03:10But also has it in the back of her mind.
03:12Like I'm going to make moves here and potentially be a manager or a promoter.
03:16Wherever the sport can take her.
03:18She's open to it all.
03:19And I think that stems back to her roots.
03:21Literally her family four generations of athletes.
03:24And you know she's in it for the long haul.
03:26Long even after her career will wrap up one day.
03:29But still a lot more to do inside the ring as we're heading into our second round.
03:42Roxy coming out establishing her range.
03:47Throwing that right jab looking for her openings.
03:51Immediately establishing the real estate inside of this ring.
04:01Celine doing a good job of staying strong.
04:05And you know not getting hit with big shots.
04:08But her punches are few and far between.
04:11She landed a nice right hand there.
04:14But they're few and far between compared to the volume.
04:17And the pressure of right hook Roxy.
04:24Roxy talked about the style of opponent that Roman is.
04:30And said you know she had a very unorthodox boxer in front of her last time.
04:34And she was looking forward to having this match up.
04:37Simply because she knew that Roman was going to come after her and come forward.
04:41Yes she respects her.
04:42She talked about how Roman comes forward.
04:47And is a forward pressure fighter here.
04:49And she was looking forward to as you said.
04:52To having a real fight.
04:54And you know dealing with some awkward rhythm.
04:58And movement.
04:59And fighters who are extremely defensive.
05:01It is it's hard to have an exciting and fun fight.
05:04When you have someone that's just so tight.
05:06And unwilling to really engage.
05:08And she talked about that too with the two minute rounds.
05:10You really can't afford to let somebody not let you get your offense off.
05:15Because two minutes will go by in the blink of an eye.
05:18Yes.
05:19They go very quickly.
05:20And the volume is up.
05:22You know you have to get right to work.
05:24That was a headbutt though that Roxy was caught with a few seconds ago.
05:27You can see it she's wearing that redness on her face.
05:34But she's right now Roxy is doing a great job of pulling Roman into where she wants her.

06:40She talked to us about going through some really dark times.
06:43In her life.
06:45And how boxing was the lifeline for her.

06:49And how that really helped her.
06:50And so it's...
06:52She said that she loves how tangible this sport is.
06:55And it is her versus her.
06:57And ultimately.
06:58And she understands that going through the darkness.
07:00And having to overcome herself at times.
07:03And she's really up for the challenge tonight.
07:06But Roxy is just has been a step ahead.
07:09And this is the first eight round fight for Roxy here.
07:13She talked about being really excited for this.
07:15And having these...
07:16Having a longer fight.
07:18And she's just making her way up as she should.
07:21You know, with all of her skills and experience as an amateur and throughout her life.
07:26And really coming into herself as a professional.
07:30Talk about that extra time allotted.
07:32You know, two more rounds for Roxy.
07:36Obviously you try to get that cardio built up in the gym.
07:40But when you actually go out there and do it for real.
07:42And it's not a sparring session.
07:44Do you feel like you adequately get the idea of what it's like to have a pro fight?
07:49Eight rounds just by sparring in the gym.
07:51Or does it feel a lot different on fight night?
07:53Yeah, it depends on the environment of the sparring session and where you are mentally.
07:57I think that it really boils down to mentally.
07:59Because I think that in training, you know, you're typically sparring after two hours of training prior to the sparring session.
08:06So you're certainly in shape.
08:08But the mindset and where you are, the environment that you create for yourself in the sparring.
08:14Is it quiet?
08:15Is it comfortable?
08:16Or are you creating really uncomfortable and chaotic environments and situations for yourself inside of the sparring?
08:22And that mimic a fight.
08:23Right.
08:24You know, I've heard athletes say that just the adrenaline that you get from that initial walkout at times can actually tax you.
08:31Yes, absolutely.
08:32It certainly can.
08:33Closing moments here of the round.
08:38Your thoughts here as you get another one of the books?
08:47I think Roxy's doing a fantastic job of controlling this fight wherever it takes place.
08:52And she talked to us about that.
08:53Her ability to adjust throughout the fight.
08:57She's fighting on her back foot.
08:59She's controlling the fight moving backwards.
09:01She's controlling the fight moving forward.
09:02Look at that beautiful left hand she just landed there.
09:05I mean, she's doing a, she's calm, she's composed, eyes wide open.
09:09She's intense.
09:10I mean, look at her.
09:11She's having a great time.

09:14Hollywood fight night is always a fun time.
09:16But, I mean, that's the thing.
09:18Roxy Verduzko, this is her job, but she loves her job.
09:21And it's just so unique to know that that's her coach right there.
09:25Maybe not her mom at the moment.
09:27Mom will come out later.
09:28But the relationship that those two have inside and outside of the ring, Roxy and Glory, it's really unique.
09:34It is so unique.

09:36They hope to be the first mom-daughter world championship, or world champion duo.

09:51Celine doing a good job of weathering the storm here, but the, again, the volume is, is so, it's behind.
09:58She has to really create some urgency in her fight.

10:21Which, she's constantly moving, she's constantly putting her hand out, feeding, forcing Celine to blink and close her eyes, and stopping her tracks like that, and then throwing shots.

10:40And then on her pedal.

10:43And moving around.
10:44Doing a great job of positioning herself.
10:47And this was the type of fight that Roxy wasn't afforded with a very unorthodox opponent last time.
10:53And she's very comfortable playing the game she's playing tonight.

10:56And, you know, the approach that Gloria and Roxy have towards the training is very scientific.
11:02They're constantly experimenting with the newest technology and the newest things out for, you know, physical therapy.
11:09She talked a lot about how she does physical therapy now to just kind of maintain her body and, you know, prevent injury.
11:17She implemented the Hyperbaric Chamber this camp, and she absolutely loves that.
11:22So they have a very scientific, flexible approach to this.
11:26They're willing to try all avenues, you know, to really make her the best, and that's what makes a champion.

12:23You know, she really does need to kind of allow herself to fight in this fight because I feel like she's holding back.

12:59And every generation of fighter gets a little bit smarter and wiser.
13:03But, you know, I just think about an athlete who's already got it figured out in their 20s.
13:07A lot of people have to fight for 10 years before they figure out exactly how to take care of their bodies.
13:11Yeah, absolutely.
13:12And I really believe that that was her mom and her aunt and her grandma.
13:15They paved the way for her and really have played such a huge, you know, impact in her life and in her career here.
13:25She was born to be a champion.
13:27Here we go, halfway point of the fifth round.
13:37And you talk about that desire to become a champion.
13:40Roxy actually opened up to us in our pre-fight interview about she was burnt out for a time.
13:46And you talk to her about being a little girl as she lands a nice little combination there.
13:53And she basically kind of went back to when she was a kid and kind of utilized that to motivate her because she's like, I put in this much work.
14:03I can't stop now.
14:05And it would have been a shame if she actually did walk away from boxing.
14:08Yeah, kidding me.
14:09She's not walking away from boxing.
14:10She might take a little break, but she's not leaving boxing.
14:13She was born for this.
14:14Yeah, she talked about having her dreams of going to the Olympics and winning an Olympic medal being shattered due to COVID
14:22and having to pivot her career and go pro, you know, finding the great promoter in Tom Loeffner,
14:29who's kept her busy and kept her moving forward, you know, and her mom, Gloria, just playing such a significant role.
14:38Oh, that was a beautiful right hook that closed that round.
14:42You know, the support and the impact that Gloria makes in her life is, it's just an amazing, it's such a beautiful story.
14:55Let's take a look at some action here, a combination from Roxy Berdusco.
15:01She does a great job of putting her hands together.
15:03She'll throw multiple punches on the same side, which is, you know, not typical.
15:08And it's so easy and she's just landing them effortlessly because you're used to seeing, you know, the centrifugal force.

15:18And moving back and forth.
15:20And she's doing a great job of putting three, four punches on the same side together tonight.

16:03She said that she is mentally feels so much better that she's calmer, more composed.
16:08And she said, when I'm calm, I'm dangerous.
16:10We're seeing that tonight.
16:12I mean, she looks like she is just so in tune tonight and technically sound
16:17and just enjoying the moment and being present in this moment at this time.

18:16or if she's frustrated because she has just a puzzle
18:19that cannot be solved right in front of her in Roxy.
