Dandy Wellington, bandleader, producer, presenter and style activist, will once again be crossing the Atlantic to be at the heart of Goodwood Revival (September 12-14).

00:00good afternoon my name is phil hewitt group arts editor at sussex newspapers now really lovely to

00:07speak in new york one of my favorite cities in new york dandy wellington now dandy before too

00:14long you'll be heading across the atlantic for goodwood revival now that's quite some journey

00:20what is it that brings you across to goodwood what does goodwood represent to you all those

00:24thousands of miles away i mean goodwood revival is is a truly uh magical event three full days

00:33of of racing vintage fashion and of course lots and lots of community i'll be over there uh to be

00:40a part of the revive and thrive village uh our new fashion hub uh which is you know has a beautiful

00:47catwalk in the center of it and at the end of that catwalk is a stage where i will be talking to some

00:52absolutely fabulous people absolutely and when you were talking about vintage just a fabulous

00:57thing that you're looking back not to go back but to move forward explain more what's what's that

01:03philosophy yeah i mean it's so important to understand that uh you know our history uh

01:15our our history is is is is fraught but it's also fabulous yeah there's there's beautiful things

01:22and there's things that we can learn from and so uh the the whole perspective on vintage style not

01:29vintage values is that we take the elegance the craftsmanship of the past and we move it forward

01:36into the modern day uh we build community on it and uh and and we go from there absolutely and you

01:44describe yourself as a style activist is that what that means then tell me yeah i i would i would say

01:51that that is what what it means there's a big part of it which is um you know delving into history and

01:59and elevating um some of the icons and stories of of of my own black history being from harlem um but

02:08more more more importantly it's the community that can grow from that it's uh it's elevating the

02:16stories um and welcoming in welcoming in people to to vintage and to style you know style is powerful

02:25yeah it is it is certain elements from the past so that that gorgeous plum colored polo top you've got

02:31you're saying that's 50 years old at least absolutely absolutely yeah it is it's it's

02:37cherishing it's cherishing the past it's it's valuing uh beautifully crafted items and breathing

02:44new life into them by wearing them every day and also inspiring those around you to do the same i mean

02:50listen uh one of my favorite phrases from a very good friend of mine he said you have to inspire until

02:56you expire and that's it it's it's it's important to to to be as as much an inspiration and be open

03:05to inspiration because it's all around fantastic well that sounds great really lovely to meet you
