00:00Perikatan National will only decide who it wants as Prime Minister after taking over
00:05Putra Jaya, says PAS spiritual leader Hashim Jasin.
00:10He also said that PAS itself had several capable leaders who could take on the role,
00:14but that the Islamic party would not put forward a poster boy for the time being, Utusan Malaysia
00:19reported.
00:20Hashim cited the late Nick Abdul Aziz Nikmat as an example, saying few believed in his
00:25leadership when PAS took over Kelantan in 1990, but that Nik Aziz went on to lead the state
00:30for more than two decades, bringing about many positive changes.
00:35He added that it's not just professionals who are capable of leading, but religious scholars
00:39as well.
00:40The Turun Anwar rally, organized by PAS youth last Saturday, had called for Prime Minister
00:45Anwar Ibrahim to step down over the rising cost of living and economic dissatisfaction.
00:51However, critics have pressed PN to name a clear alternative for the top post.
00:56In March, Bersatu Deputy President Hamza Zainuddin said there was no urgent need for PN to decide
01:02on its candidate, as the decision required careful consideration to ensure unity.
01:07PN's choice for the top post has been under scrutiny since last November, when Hashim denied
01:12that Bersatu President Muhyiddin Yassin was the confirmed Prime Ministerial candidate for
01:17GE 16 and insisted that PAS should lead the coalition.
