00:00Former Minister Khairi Jamaluddin has insisted that his political future should not be guided by allegiance to any particular party, amid speculation that he had appealed to rejoin UMNO after being sacked.

00:13Khairi said his political future should instead be tied to the ability to help as many people as possible.

00:20Khairi was responding to an FMT report, quoting political analysts as saying the former UMNO youth chief's political future remained tied to UMNO.

00:30The report suggested that his appeal to rejoin the party was likely motivated by the assessment that no other party offers a genuine fit for his political ambitions.

00:39It comes after FMT learned that Khairi submitted an appeal letter over his January 2023 expulsion through an aide.

00:47However, UMNO President Ahmad Zayed Hamidi said the party has yet to receive it.

00:51Khairi, the former health minister and three-term Rimbau MP, was sacked from UMNO in January 2023 for breaching party discipline during the 15th general election.
