00:00Diabetes mellitus in Indonesia is a common concern due to the increasing number of sufferers.
00:07The management of this diabetes was the focus of Dr. Kurnia Widia-Ningram's doctoral dissertation
00:12at the Faculty of Medicine, Brawijaya University. In her research, Kurnia found several factors,
00:20including diabetes literacy and government regulations, that pose challenges for hospitals
00:24in treating diabetes patients. These two factors must be addressed to improve diabetes management
00:30in Indonesia. Diabetes mellitus management in Indonesia still faces various challenges,
00:39both from the perspective of patients, doctors, and existing government regulations.
00:44This was the finding of Dr. Widia-Ningram's dissertation at the Faculty of Medicine,
00:49Brawijaya University. According to Dr. Widia, there are two things that need attention,
00:56public literacy about diabetes and BPJS regulations related to the management of diabetes patients.
01:03So, my dissertation is about diabetes mellitus. Because diabetes cases are so numerous,
01:10and one of them is in Indonesia, a country with extraordinary developments in diabetes cases.
01:15However, clinical therapy has not yet been achieved.
01:19So, here I'm trying to figure out what factors are preventing this from being implemented properly.
01:25Then, I'm looking for solutions.
01:29This research found three main factors, doctors, patients, and the healthcare system.
01:34Two new findings emerge. It turns out there are BPJS regulations and sociocultural factors.
01:40These regulations, it turns out, put pressure on the government and hospital policies to create
01:49restrictions, which ultimately lead to drug restrictions and lab tests.
01:57Secondly, there's the societal factor itself.
02:00They have a mindset about the myth that drugs can't be used.
02:06Then, they have a belief in over-the-counter drugs, and it turns out that diabetes literacy itself is also still lacking.
02:12So, these two things need to be improved.
02:16We need to evaluate how to improve public education.
02:21Secondly, how should these regulations be managed so that when the public is educated and the regulations are good,
02:27hopefully both can lead to better diabetes control?
02:30On the same occasion, Professor Ahmad Rudianto, a professor at the Faculty of Medicine at UB, supported Dr. Karnia's findings.
02:41According to him, the diabetes issue is quite complex because it involves many parties, so it must be a shared concern.
02:50We know that diabetes is not easy to treat.
02:52There are many factors that influence successful patient management.
03:04And we know that diabetes is a chronic disease with high health care costs, and it requires better management.
03:09Therefore, the results of this dissertation will give us a sense of how complex the diabetes problem is.
03:21This dissertation offers new hope because, based on the descriptions and the research into the determinants,
03:38we can then identify areas for improvement that will require further action.
03:41Yes, but what is clear is that we have been able to identify the determinants that play a role in diabetes management.
