00:00hot and dry today at Centurion for another potentially captivating group B game so much
00:28is happening in that group so much would depend on the outcome of this game these two teams know
00:32each other very well South Africa versus England group B in the ICC champions trophy here in South
00:38Africa it's coming to you live from Centurion now the reason I said it could be potentially
00:44captivating is that there is so much at stake in this game you can already see the crowds are
00:48going to get into it they're enjoying themselves lots of hats lots of umbrellas you'll see lots of
00:51summer clothing as well suntan lotion you can see all that coming up yeah it's not quite do or die
00:59but we're ready for the toss and a wonderful crowd here and it should be a fantastic atmosphere for
01:05this match I've got Graham Smith South Africa's captain Andrew Strauss England's captain and a
01:09Roshan Mahanama the former Sri Lankan batsman Graham's got the coin heads is the call from Andrew Strauss
01:16it is ahead it is ahead so England have won the toss Andrew what are you going to do we're going
01:21to have a bat looks like a pretty good wicket good opportunity for us to get some runs on the board
01:25and put South Africa under pressure that way any changes in your lineup we've got one Ravi Bopar is
01:31in for Matt Pryor unfortunately Matt's gone downhill this morning so Morgan's going to take over the
01:36wicket-keeping duties but he's looked pretty good in practice so should be all right and finally there
01:42was due here last night I think is that going to be a factor when you bowl second at all well hopefully
01:46not too much you know that we've got to learn to live with it if there is but we're confident if
01:53we get get some good runs on the board we can put South Africa under pressure and a couple of early
01:56wickets and you know that that's our way of winning the game good luck to you cheers thank you Graham what
02:02would you have done had you won the toss yeah we probably would have batted today also but it looks
02:06generally a good wicket and we we're happy to chase it's ensuring I think it's a ground that we've chased
02:10well at generally so hopefully today we can start well with the ball any changes in your team
02:15Herschel's back foot and he comes in for Hashim Amla now you said Mickey Arthur I think said that
02:20you got up in your percentage you're probably about 75 85 percent last match expect to raise the bar
02:25this time yeah look I think the intensity is which we started is crucial and obviously Dale and Wayne
02:30are crucial to that and how they start with the ball and in the field you know we want to just keep
02:34seeing that graph go upwards you know it's against Sri Lanka was the first game for us in the season
02:38and we just want to keep improving that graph and today if we can improve that graph and
02:41and play it's our potential then we're going to really be a tough team to beat and that's that's
02:45that's our goal today little breeze to help the players out there on what is a warm day
02:50so whose favorites Kepler what does your head tell you what does your heart tell you
02:57well England will have to play above themselves to win this one South Africa have a very strong
03:03combination and an excellent record at this ground and started the tournament well in fact they're
03:10top of this group so they've got plenty to play for and nothing to lose because I'll have one more
03:16opportunity after this match to try and qualify for the semi-final as well South Africa have just about a
03:2570 percent win record here at Supersport Park they've played 23 internationals have won 16 of them Dale
03:31stain first ball of the match wow that's a shocker maybe some nervous energy
03:38so there's a look at the surface a few bare patches there a little bit of green grass few cracks but they
03:50won't affect proceedings too much in a one-day game shot full face of the bat and that'll run away for
04:01the first boundary beautiful stroke by Andrew Strauss very well balanced excellent timing as well full face
04:11of the bat so confidence start by the England captain
04:14let's travel the full 72 meters 72 meters the ends boundaries and on the side the shorter one towards
04:30the scoreboard is 58 short pulled away handsome shot from the England captain excellent shot by Andrew Strauss
04:40that delivery just sat up no real pace in this pitch so impressive start by England hoping that they
04:50can continue through the first 15 or 20 overs look at that 37 runs saved baby de Villiers and the
05:08tournament so far clipped off his pads by Strauss could collect three here it might even run away for
05:15four it's done that fast outfield here at Centurion beautiful pitch to bat on particularly against the
05:24new ball when it's coming on to the bat now that may change when the ball gets old and the pitch slows up
05:29but at the moment ideal batting conditions sweetly timed that's belted away Strauss won't even run after
05:47that that's a magnificent fan boundary great source of we very concerned because it's been risk-free batting
05:55from England that's taken them on to 27 after just the four overs they haven't really had to take any risks at all
06:01South Africa have heard too much with on a very good batting surface so there's been no pressure really
06:09applied on the England openers great shot from Denley so full of confidence just stood there and hooked Parnell
06:23back over his shoulder great shot but then he's very still at the crease which is good he waited for that
06:30delivery right through the line sharp flicked away what a magnificent shot by Joe Denley
06:42Calis won't enjoy that just over pitched down that leg side again Joe Denley excellent balance waiting for the delivery
07:00not too many chances that'll run away for four as well lots of width
07:11yes I should I think Graham Smith would be dismayed by the quality of the seam bowling from
07:19Steyn and Parnell England have taken heavy toll anything that's been wide balls that have been bowled on or just outside the off stump have
07:32been dots all right but the boundary count already up to eight five to Strauss and three to Joe Denley
07:40Now then straight down the throat of J.P. Dumini and this is going to be a very very unhappy Englishman going back very good surface
07:55they've got off to a very good start and he found the one man in the deep there Joe Denley
08:00Denley will be most disappointed it was a brainless shot he knew exactly where the fielder was he just packed himself to clear the fielder
08:08the shortest boundary down there Dumini makes no mistake so England lose their first wicket
08:14Denley's the man dismissed for 21 England 48 for 1
08:19Ovesha is the new batsman 30 years old he's been a sort of there and thereabouts kind of
08:25cricketer from time to time he'll suggest that he's a solution to a lot of England's top water problems in the one day game especially
08:31he goes through a phase when he won't quite score as much as you'd expect him to
08:35well that's gone a bit further than 58 metres magnificent strike he did that the other day as well
08:46he kept blocking and blocking and suddenly hit one out of the ground this is a huge hit it's it's cleared
08:51all those people sitting there it's got right behind to where the space of the bra is where did that come
08:58from just almost like it was a free hit look how far that's gone
09:10it's stuck that is a fine catch
09:15just for a moment it looked like it might beat voucher but did very very well to get there
09:20that's not what England wanted to see very good start it's just starting to disintegrate
09:27well we were talking of all-round cricketers of the highest caliber and here's one Mark Boucher
09:34fantastic no slips there to distract him he knew it was his catch he went for it he pouched it Strauss goes
09:41to 25 it's 59 for 2. Paul Collingwood looked in very good nick against Sri Lanka 33 years old a one day
09:50average of 34 which is pretty good actually given that he batted at number six for a lot of a lot of his
09:55games oh that's a fine shot that is a fine shot straight enough there was a mid-on and he's picked the gap beautifully
10:12this is the reason oh hi is such an enigma he's capable of playing a shot as classy as that
10:19and yet his record in international cricket aren't that fantastic that's a magnificent blow
10:32well he gets a boundary this time i don't think it's where he intended onto the go i think deep mid
10:36wicket but he gets a boundary all the same so 20 overs gone 93 for two
10:42and i think jp dumini thought it was going to his left once he hit this dumini was running away to his
10:47left and it's only after the ball yeah you can see vandermeer they're raising his arms because he
10:53saw dumini going left and then had to change direction and come back to his right so he lost
10:59about three four five yards with that misread
11:07chipped in the air and it's found the gap what a good shot that's the 50 50 partnership as well
11:13this great shot there before collingwood loves to use his feet to the spinners and just comes
11:17down the clip should come to be over with wicket a couple of bounces into the boundary
11:24it's good shot it was just about a half volley and collingwood just lent into it
11:30end of the air of a good one for england nine from it 24 bold 119 for two
11:34that's a good shot and he's found the gap that really is crisply hit from collingwood picks
11:46up a boundary and that's his fourth
11:56that will go all the way what a beautifully hit to ball from
11:59shot he really found the gap but that's the area he likes
12:05his grace use of their wrists and hands here but always shot
12:13half century for our shop for england
12:18just a mild applause but the england dressing room is happy with that effort oh i sharp 50 63 deliveries
12:25that's his 12th one day international 50. he's also got 100. here at centurion today it's taken
12:33him 63 balls with three fours under six and that's a strike rate of 79
12:41well that's gone straight into the crowd about 12 rows back
12:44it's on to that grassy bank it's to the shortest boundary
12:47oh dear not looking after one of those south african ladies very well giving a hit on the head but
12:57she looks to have taken in good spirits maybe it was just a bit of a glancing blow
13:02but he's dragged down just slightly but ulof from the mover
13:06collingwood quickly back in his crease and caches him perfectly well
13:10that's a half century for paul collingwood
13:19paul collingwood 50 from 56 deliveries with four fours under six
13:24and that represents a strike rate of 89 it's played well
13:27that's six umpires are checking but it certainly is the century it's a six that brings up the century
13:41partnership between sha and collingwood 31 overs gone 164 for two
13:54but they're not controlling this one
14:04that is a huge six always just playing the innings of his life here
14:0965 from 71 he's at three sixes showing wonderful footwork against the slow ballers
14:16i'll tell you what he can hit the ball a long way
14:17this is a superb stroke he's in stark contrast to the one that he played at the wondrous
14:25on a different surface earlier in the week
14:28oh he was on tranquilizers that day
14:34oh good shot that'll be the field as well
14:38boundaries they're coming from everywhere now dumini is a good fielder
14:41but it beat him
14:46oh that's somewhere else way back into the crowd
14:51it's becoming a hazard for the spectators now 193 for two after 34
15:00when he's on fire always sharp he's played beautifully today he's got his 78 or 76 deliveries that was a
15:05magnificent lock sweep
15:12oh another one it doesn't really matter which side of the ground he's hitting them on short boundary
15:19long boundaries clearing them all today but if i shall continue to play like this they are going to get
15:24more than 300 the second magnificent shot in two overs also over that favorite leg side field of his
15:35he's going to see the distances he's getting on these sixes the boundary down that area is about 70 meters
15:46always in the air
15:49and it's that kind of day
15:51almost runs away for four
15:54better luck there for paul collingwood off the outside edge just beating
15:58backward points so we're just going to have a look to see whether this
16:04was indeed stopped by jp dumini or whether he touched the boundary
16:08at the same time so collingwood playing too early comes off the leading edge
16:12jp dumini making a lot of ground down there a third man
16:18last five overs 47 runs not even the power play
16:21stane comes back and the ball is an appointment with someone else down there at long leg
16:30well another excellent shot poor delivery though it has to be said it was halfway
16:34down dale stane dragging it down oh a sha is in great form now full shot to perfection this time
16:42shot again it's clattering the boundary rope well it's an excellent shot but that's a very poor
16:54delivery back-to-back short balls from dale stane the first one got the treatment second one didn't go
17:01for six but hit that so hard through mid wicket once again so england really dominating this phase
17:12so now is he going to catch it is that back pad on it yes there was you heard two sounds
17:20it's not going to be for oway sha but it doesn't take away from the brilliance of his innings
17:28what a penny from oway sha and england's point of view we're just talking about the fact that he
17:33richly deserved a century but he played quite beautifully
17:36just wonder if he tried to do something different maybe just thought let me dab the ball around
17:43for a single finger went up immediately voucher knew it bought i knew it
17:5098 from 89 balls england two to two for three so it lasts a wicket for south africa 222 for three but
17:58oway sha has played a fantastic innings 98 from 89 new man in is their new wicket keeper today
18:04owen morgan
18:09reverse sweep again and he should have been taken
18:15in parnell i think it carried now that would have just been what south africa needed
18:21well did it carry i think it did from first glance
18:26could have been a couple of wickets and a couple of overs it really would have got south africa back
18:30into the game well it's tough and he was diving forward he did about as well as he could
18:43last
18:47oh what is it what a shot people associate owen morgan with dinks reverse sweeps paddles but he's very
18:54strong down the ground too
18:55He's walked in like a man on a mission here Nick, just waltzed down the wicket, a little bit of width on offer, well I'll just hit that over extra cover.
19:07I'll middle it to the long boundary, there's only room to spare, 83 meters, only faced a few deliveries but I'm ready to go here.
19:15Doesn't deter Paul Collingwood at all, that's where his area is.
19:21It's Paul Collingwood looking to get across the stumps and work the ball leg side, I think if you said to him he's got one boundary to hit to save his life, I think he'd definitely be going onside.
19:31It's definitely his strength.
19:38Super strike, super placement too.
19:44He's placed a superb and raced off the bat.
19:48I can't remember this Owen Morgan when he played for Ireland, is it a different man?
19:55He's got everyone up on the leg side to the short boundary, I wouldn't be surprised if Morgan targets that side.
20:01Doesn't need to, he's just crashed it through the covers.
20:05What a strike. Forget the leg side for now.
20:0725 off 13 for the young man.
20:15Well has to hit, has to hit and doesn't.
20:17On this occasion, he's stretched to make his ground.
20:30And have done wonders for his calves.
20:32Very good fielder, Herschel Gibbs doesn't miss very often.
20:41Yeah, very good, very, very good from Parnell.
20:45It's full, it's straight.
20:47Collingwood trying to get it through the offside, gets a big inside edge onto the stumps.
20:51Wayne Parnell, with the golden arm, continues to take wickets for South Africa in important times.
21:00I mean, a prolific death bowler, a little bit of width on offer.
21:04Collingwood looking to hit it through the offside, drags it back onto the leg stump.
21:08And that's an end of a fantastic innings for England.
21:1282 runs of 94 deliveries, and the score is 262 for 4.
21:16Sensible decision from England's management, Luke Wright has been put up the order ahead of Ravi Bopar.
21:25Ravi Bopar replacing Matt Pryor today.
21:28Yeah, yes, yes, yes, pulled away.
21:32It's a shortish boundary, but it gets the connection.
21:35Short boundary, going for the change-up.
21:40Short to Morgan, equal to the task, just helped it on its way.
21:43Ball tends to fly here at Centurion Park.
21:46And this one's gone miles back.
21:48England flags waving in the background.
21:52See a lot of English flags this summer, Nick, with the tour coming here later.
21:59Down the ground, and that's gone as well.
22:01That's what we mean, a dynamo.
22:02You wouldn't expect that sort of power to be generated from a guy who is what?
22:06Must be about 5'9", maybe a little smaller than that, but he's doing a handy job.
22:11Well, this is simply in one of the best finishing innings England have seen in one-day cricket in recent time.
22:2047 from 22 balls faced.
22:25Oh, my goodness, I'm sure that he meant for that to go down to third man.
22:34He's gone down to fine leg. How do you get that fit?
22:37He's very happy pulling these tricks out of the bag.
22:41That is brilliant.
22:51Absolutely fantastic because Parmel going for the Yorker, and that must have been just outside the off-snub, or an off-snub at worse.
22:58Talk about power that Luke Wright tends to bring, but that is a good touch.
23:02Now, Luke Wright goes in the most unfortunate manner.
23:11Parnell got a little boot on it, and Wright, as most guys would tend to do at this stage of the innings, backing up what, two or three steps out of their crease, finds himself with not a ghost of a chance.
23:25No, very unfortunate for Luke Wright.
23:32A little assist from the centre forward onto the stumps, and Wright is gone.
23:40Ravibo Power makes his way to the crease to replace Luke Wright.
23:45Batting down the order today, and in the team only because Matt Pryor, the wicketkeeper pulled up ill.
23:52Set up perfectly, Ian. England rarely have this many wickets in hand with four overs to go.
24:02And 50 for Owen Morgan, what a fantastic innings it has been, 26 deliveries only, very nearly two runs a ball, with three sixes and four fours.
24:21That is high in the air, someone's coming in, taken safely.
24:31Albi Morko, he's taken a bashing today with the ball, but held his nerve and showed a good pair of hands and good judgement.
24:40A bit early for Vapara to go for that type of shot, I thought.
24:47He should really have just given the strike back to Morgan.
24:51Very difficult to come in cold and cart that sort of delivery for six.
24:57Morko had a long time to wait for that to come down, he made no mistake.
25:03Vapara goes for a single, 2.95 for six.
25:07We've all had some highlights with the bat against Australia in the Ashes series.
25:14That is a beautiful death bowling.
25:19That looked to be the perfect delivery from Wayne Parnell, something of a specialist at this stage of the innings.
25:29Well there's a golden ball for the leading wicket taker in the ICC Champions Trophy 2009.
25:36And Wayne Parnell is going to take some catching now.
25:40Fabulous delivery, first up.
25:44Same story as last night, the wickets tumbling in the closing overs.
25:49Broad goes for a duck, 2.97 for seven.
25:52Graham Swan replaces Stuart Broad.
25:59That's what happens, that's why it's so hard to replicate time and again.
26:03Because you miss your length by a foot and a half and your line and you get clipped away like that.
26:08300 comes up for England and what a start to Swan's inning.
26:13Very capable batsman, Graham Swan.
26:18He too, like Broad, had some magic moments with the bat against Australia last summer.
26:25Magnificent strike again from Owen Morgan.
26:32And he moves on to 58 with that towering six, four sixes.
26:43This guy has amazing back speed for a little man.
26:46Probably gave him an inch or two extra when I said five eight five nine.
26:50He looks as though he could be smaller than that.
26:53But again Parnell going for the Yorker and look at the damage that could be done if you miss your length at this stage of the innings.
26:59How did he get underneath that to hit that so clearly down the ground?
27:08That is a really an excellent shot.
27:11Well it's great to see the smile.
27:13It's great to see a young player enjoying his cricket.
27:18Why shouldn't he enjoy this innings?
27:21I've seen a lot of England one day international cricket but very few innings like this.
27:28Love you.
27:29Any done?
27:30I'm glad.
27:31I'm glad.
27:32No...
27:33I'm glad.
27:34Good job.
27:35Brillionly taken by Graham Smith.
27:38That was not an easy catch.
27:41It was moving to his right and dropping and the state got it right up there.
27:48And the end result South Africa wanted.
27:53End of a marvellous innings by Owen Morgan.
27:57That's a fine catch for a tall man.
27:59Smith got down well, took it cleanly.
28:02But what an innings from Owen Morgan.
28:0467 from 34 balls.
28:07England 3.20 for 8.
28:10Five pickets have gone down in the last six overs or so.
28:13James Anderson is the newest batsman replacing Owen Morgan.
28:18Very good last ball.
28:21Very good last ball indeed.
28:24In the midst of carnage.
28:26England and their innings on 3.23.
28:30The second highest score in the history of Champions trophies.
28:35Highs being 347 for 4 by New Zealand against the USA.
28:40So a wonderful performance with the bat by England having won the toss here at Centurion.
28:46Some serious looks on those South African faces.
28:51They really do have to win here having already lost to Sri Lanka.
28:55The scene set by Strauss and Denley who put on 48 for the first wicket.
29:02But after Denley was dismissed Strauss quickly followed when the score was 59.
29:07Then the marvellous, marvellous partnership between O.S. Shah and Collingwood.
29:12And then the whirlwind from Morgan towards the end.
29:15England, 3.23 for 8.
29:20Some pain for the bowlers again at Centurion.
29:25Some heavy runs per over.
29:28And the spinners expensive.
29:33South Africa have a magnanimous task ahead of them.
29:37324 to get and Sri Lanka lost down at the wonders to New Zealand today.
29:43So the group is in an interesting position.
29:45Can South Africa do it?
29:46The smoke from the prize is wafting across the ground here at Centurion.
30:00This is more in anticipation as well.
30:03A delicious cricket match.
30:04South Africa versus England coming to you live from Centurion.
30:07This of course is the second half you've had.
30:10A wonderful first half.
30:11Especially if you've been an England supporter.
30:14When they've gone out and notched 323 for 8.
30:19They started off quite well actually.
30:20Strauss and Denley they put on 48 in 10 overs.
30:23But then the key was the partnership between Ovaez Shah and Paul Collingwood.
30:27Shah I thought it was wonderful.
30:2998 from 89 balls.
30:31Collingwood played his part.
30:32And I think we've seen the emergence of a huge star in the making here.
30:36With Owen Morgan making 67 from 34.
30:38He hit the ball as cleanly as anybody.
30:41This has all the makings of a marvellous evening's entertainment.
30:46Depending on which camp you want to win.
30:48Of course we're all completely unbiased in this commentary box.
30:52Aren't we Shah?
30:53We just love the game of cricket.
30:56Yes definitely.
30:57There's no motivation for me whatsoever to support the captain of South Africa in this team.
31:02I'm totally impartial.
31:04That's short and it's poked around.
31:09And it's going to beat Luke Wright.
31:10That's four for Smith.
31:16Graham Unions trying to hit the deck with his first delivery.
31:19Probably would have been better off going for a bit of slightly a fuller length.
31:22Graham Smith very strong on the short delivery.
31:24Back of a length puts it to the weight comfortably.
31:27Very tall man.
31:28Very strong man.
31:30Enjoys the ball by in Belgium in that area.
31:37Nicely turned away by Graham Smith.
31:39Bopara with the dive but it's gone for four.
31:45Beautifully tied by South Africa's skipper.
31:55Oh look at that.
31:57What a magnificent blow from Herschel Gibbs.
32:00And the South African flags are all out now.
32:08Yes Gibbs realising that Unions is hitting back of a length as much as possible.
32:12He's not scared to use his feet down the wicket.
32:14Looks to take advantage.
32:17It's a short boundary but that's still gone way back onto the back.
32:22Something Herschel Gibbs is doing more and more these days.
32:25Running at the opposition.
32:26Great shot off the back foot there by Herschel Gibbs.
32:31Just dragged down.
32:32Just stood up on it.
32:34Caressed it through the covers.
32:37South Africa are ahead of England at this very stage.
32:41With that boundary.
32:42Look at this.
32:43Just caressed through extra cover.
32:45Bopara just watched it go past it.
32:49Really is a lump of wood and it's used beautifully by Herschel Gibbs.
32:56Oh that's even better.
32:58That really is so good from Herschel Gibbs.
33:02And he's treating Unions with disdain.
33:11Great shot off the front foot this time by Herschel Gibbs.
33:13Just opening the face slightly to place it through the cover region.
33:17Two full by Unions.
33:18Oh gone, gone, gone.
33:23It's a soft dismissal.
33:26And Herschel Gibbs.
33:28That cameo innings of his.
33:30But that's a big blow for South Africa.
33:33Yeah, huge blow for South Africa.
33:35And great moment for the England team.
33:37Herschel Gibbs looking to get on the front foot.
33:40Dragged down by Anderson.
33:42Gibbs trying to get on the pull.
33:43Doesn't get it high on the bat.
33:45And an easy catch for right at mid on.
33:48And the England team understand the importance of that.
33:51Herschel Gibbs goes.
33:53With 22 of 26 deliveries.
33:55And the score is 42 for 1.
33:57Jacques Carles wearing three.
33:59Is South Africa's number three.
34:01And he comes to the middle now with Gibbs gone.
34:03To find for third man.
34:09There was no slip.
34:12It's a good first over this from Broad.
34:14I must admit.
34:15Six came from it.
34:16It's 48 for 1.
34:23He is one of the great players of the cover drive in world cricket.
34:28And inevitably when Carles comes in.
34:30You start to wait for that shot.
34:31Now this is a challenge for Broad here.
34:38How often did you see Jacques Carles play shots like that in the early part of his career?
34:41It's not going to go for four.
34:42It'll only be two.
34:45The intent is there.
34:48You always look at Jacques Carles and say steady player.
34:51He'll play all the correct cricket shots.
34:56Found the man.
34:57Now Carles goes in exactly the manner in which he dismissed Denley himself.
35:09And guess who took the catch?
35:12Joe Denley.
35:13Maybe there is some justice in this world.
35:14Very similar shot.
35:17He just swiveled.
35:18And I think backed himself to clear the boundary.
35:20Or maybe at least place it well enough.
35:21This is a mammoth wicket.
35:24Yeah, deja vu.
35:25And again it is the short ball that gets the wicket.
35:30Mirror of what happened when England batted.
35:33Carles goes for 12, 64 for two.
35:37Very popular cricketer here in South Africa and much admired around the world.
35:4125 years old, A.B. de Villiers.
35:48Oh, he heaved at that, didn't he?
35:50He didn't even pull that.
35:50He heaved at it.
35:53He does play a pull shot that's quite distinct from everyone else's.
35:56It's not exactly subtle, there's no finesse in it, but it reaches the boundary.
36:04It's a muscular shot.
36:09Oh dear.
36:17That's a very rare occurrence indeed.
36:19Would you believe it?
36:20Would you believe it?
36:21He just hasn't picked it up, has he hasn't even got a hand on it?
36:26Oh, well, well.
36:34Magnificent.
36:38So off the hat was off the last ball and an over.
36:42Instead of the over going for one, it's gone for five, 78 for two.
36:46Bo Parra, sprawling dive, but once again, it's unsuccessful.
37:00Can't stop the boundary.
37:01Well, it's a magnificent effort from Bo Parra.
37:05He's tried this on a couple of occasions.
37:07He hasn't quite pulled it off, but it's no lack of effort.
37:12It's wide of the sweeper, so that'll run away for four.
37:15A very effective one-day tactician with the bat, A.B. de Villiers.
37:20Very good at picking the gaps in the field.
37:25Just a bit of width on that from right.
37:33Well, he hasn't chosen the onside.
37:35He's chosen an extra cover with an exquisite drive.
37:40Well, you get the impression that Collingwood is concerned about that leg side.
37:43And he's just created a bit of width for de Villiers.
37:47Here it's not the off-gutter.
37:51What a strike.
38:00That's 50 for Smith.
38:02Oh, it beats Stuart Broad.
38:05Some of England's ground feeling has been of a pretty high quality tonight,
38:08but that's 50 for Smith.
38:09His 40th N1 Nationals, in addition to 700.
38:15Excellent innings by the South African captain.
38:19Happy dressing room as well.
38:22Partnership worth 50 as well.
38:31Seems to get the ball away in different areas a little bit easier.
38:34Oh, another piece of good feeling, was it?
38:37Is it?
38:37Oh, unfortunate.
38:38I thought it was another piece of good ground feeling there for a while from Luke Wright.
38:43But his pullback was too strong.
38:50Oh, no.
38:52Oh, Morgan.
38:54Oh, and Morgan.
38:55Spoke about him.
38:57Last over doing a good job.
38:58But this is a missed opportunity.
38:59He had to scramble.
39:00Came off the pad.
39:03Just couldn't gather it in time.
39:06Graham Smith was a long, long way down.
39:10So a regular keeper.
39:12May have made a better fist of it.
39:13That's going to be out.
39:19That's the second time.
39:21In fact, the third we've seen Ahoyke.
39:24Caught on the leg side tonight.
39:25Second time in the deep.
39:27Maybe the Villiers will be kicking himself because he will feel that should have disappeared a lot further into the banks.
39:32The shot was on.
39:35No question of that.
39:36But Paul Collingwood has been doing a good job for his team with the ball.
39:40Maybe the Villiers just didn't get this one in the middle.
39:42It is a short boundary.
39:45We've seen that boundary cleared quite a few times tonight, but not this time.
39:53Maybe the Villiers has gone for a well-played 36.
39:56South Africa, 142 for three.
40:00JP Dumony replaces AB de Villiers.
40:03Two left-handed batsmen now at the crease.
40:09It's up.
40:11Has he got enough?
40:11Yes, it should be caught.
40:12It is.
40:12It's not caught.
40:13Would you believe it, Ahoyke Shah?
40:15Would you believe it?
40:17Did all the work.
40:18Got there.
40:19Surely should have been taken.
40:25Sour relief in the South African dressing room.
40:30Yeah, very big.
40:31Big appeal from Onions.
40:33Has it pitched in line?
40:35Yeah, I think we'll find this is pitched outside.
40:37Oh, not a bad shout.
40:42Just have to look at how it looks on the mat.
40:44I think it may be touching goes to where they're pitched on.
40:48Oh, that's got to be good enough.
40:52Pitch just on.
40:54No wonder we're so excited, Nati.
40:55Well, he may have just been a smidgen unlucky there.
40:58It's a hundred for the captain.
41:07Graham Smith.
41:10Graham Smith, South Africa's captain.
41:13With a hundred at Centurion.
41:15Is he going to steer his side home to victory against England here?
41:19Doing his bit to keep South Africa in this competition.
41:24Played well.
41:25He's led from the front.
41:28It's a happy South African change.
41:30And they know that perhaps the momentum in this game is just swinging their way.
41:34A hundred and four balls.
41:38Ten fours.
41:39Stripe rate of 99.
41:44Balding.
41:45Got the one to go straight on.
41:47It was the arm ball.
41:48It didn't turn.
41:50Germany played it back.
41:52And Swan has struck for England.
41:54How crucial a blow is that?
41:56Excellent ball in Graham Swan.
42:01The quicker delivery was further up as well.
42:04And it went straight on.
42:05JP Dumini looking to give himself some room.
42:08And England, the Wiccan, they so desperately need it.
42:11JP Dumini has gone for 24.
42:13South Africa, 206 for four.
42:18Comes to the middle.
42:20He really can turn this game.
42:23Long off has gone back.
42:28That'll fly away.
42:29That has gone racing off the edge for four.
42:32It's not a good delivery.
42:36This could be costly for England.
42:38Stuart Broad has got to determine what length he wants to bowl.
42:42Two short ones and then a full toss.
42:45Too much grip as well.
42:47Here's Anderson.
42:49Oh, he's bowled him.
42:50It was too far up to play the pull shot.
42:53And Anderson comes back and rips out Boucher.
42:58Kept a bit low.
43:01Good first delivery by Anderson.
43:02Not short enough to pull.
43:04We're saying England, they need a wicket.
43:06They got one.
43:07Anderson providing the breakthrough.
43:10Well, it hit top of off stuff.
43:12So it certainly didn't keep low as I thought.
43:14But it was too full to pull.
43:16So Boucher didn't really get going.
43:19He's gone for eight.
43:20South Africa, 230 for five.
43:22Albie Morkle is in the middle now with his captain, Graeme Smith.
43:30Now Albie Morkle can hit the ball fearful distances.
43:33He's found the gap at straight mid-wicket.
43:40That's a boundary, not the start that Stuart Broad wanted.
43:43But Morkle opens his shoulders.
43:53That's high.
43:54Is it long enough?
43:55It is long enough.
44:02What a start with a bad place then.
44:04We didn't say things tend to happen when Stuart Broad is bowling.
44:07England want wickets to happen, not runs like these.
44:10Fabulous strike from Albie Morkle.
44:16Lovely clean hit down the ground.
44:18And that's sent Broad and Strauss into conference.
44:24Smith 124, Morkle 17.
44:26They've put on 25, but it's taken them a runner ball to get there.
44:31Conversation out in the middle between the two umpires.
44:34The England captain's in on it as well about whether Smith should be allowed a runner.
44:39I think I saw Strauss shake his head vigorously.
44:46Smith saying, why no?
44:51Right, this is the other side we're seeing to Andrew Strauss.
44:54I'm going to go by the roots.
45:00Vicky Harper's not happy about the situation.
45:05And A.B. de Villiers makes his way off the ground again.
45:08So, no runner allowed for Graham Smith.
45:10Drama here at Centurion.
45:18It's called for a single nut.
45:20Is it the stumps of the striker's end?
45:23Everyone's celebrating.
45:25Swing and a miss from Smith.
45:28And he's well, well short.
45:33And the sixth wicket falls.
45:35Morkle clearly run out.
45:39It was his call as well because the ball is behind Graham Smith.
45:42He couldn't have seen it.
45:44Get a muted response here.
45:46Tells you how many English supporters are in the crowd.
45:49So then, Albi Morkle has run out for 17 from 14 balls.
45:51The explosion didn't arrive.
45:532.55 now for six.
45:54Johan Bota, the new batsman.
46:0069 needed.
46:06Well, that's going to be another going down.
46:07On the edge of the circle, the catch is very easily taken.
46:10Onions, the catcher, and that's the end of Johan Bota.
46:14And Stuart Broad gets another wicket.
46:16South Africa are collapsing very, very quickly here under the lights at Centurion.
46:22Bota goes for a duck.
46:25Broad with the length ball.
46:26Bota trying to get it aerial back over the bowler's head, but he skews it to mid off.
46:31Onions just stands and waits for it to drop gently into his hands.
46:362.55 for seven.
46:40Rule of Van der Merwe.
46:41They crossed over while the catch is being taken.
46:42The Smith is in strike.
46:45Call is no.
46:46There's a run out impossible at the non-strikers, and everything's happening here at Centurion.
46:50Could you expect that required?
46:51Run rate 13 now.
46:57Well, he's got hold of that well enough.
46:58He's a little bit there for South Africa.
47:02It might be too late.
47:06Smith moving like a man on stilts now.
47:09He's in a lot of pain with that cramp.
47:18Ball them.
47:20Anderson gets better and better with every ball that he bowls.
47:25Rule of Van der Merwe was looking for room.
47:27Anderson knew it.
47:27Full and straight.
47:29The stumps are gone.
47:30England are in she closer.
47:34Yeah, they're not very happy.
47:36Is it going to be another collapse in front of a home crowd now?
47:40Stunning performance this by Anderson.
47:43He's settled Strauss' nerves now.
47:44No way back for South Africa from here.
47:51Another duck on the wall.
47:522.63 for eight.
47:54Three wickets in the last seven balls.
47:57Now Wayne Parnell comes in normally at this stage of the innings.
47:59He's got the ball in hand and he's taking wickets.
48:00Oh, what a good slow ball that is.
48:04Don't think he picked it up at all.
48:07It's called no ball.
48:11Oh, maybe that's why.
48:12This innings is just fantastic.
48:21Groves and Mike Maritain from Groves with every shot he's playing.
48:26Every time Groves pitches the ball up to Graeme Smith, it disappears to the boundary.
48:30It's his best one-day score now.
48:33Leading that 1.34 not out.
48:39And another boundary.
48:43Too much width.
48:45Graeme Smith is just standing, waiting for Broad to deliver the boundary ball.
48:50Four times in the last two hours Broad has delivered.
48:53Served up on the plate each time.
48:56What James Anderson must think of this rubbish from Broad, I'm not quite sure.
49:03That's in the air.
49:06Fielders coming underneath it.
49:08Wide on the edge of the circle.
49:09This could be it.
49:10This could be it.
49:11It is.
49:16England move closer to a great win in a place in the semi-final.
49:21But I think we all need to pause a while here.
49:23We've seen an outstanding innings.
49:25It's just come to an end.
49:26Everybody's standing here at Centurion.
49:28It's one of the brave innings you'll see.
49:30Well, half the crowd have already gone home.
49:32But the rest of them are on their feet.
49:34To salute to the South African captain.
49:37A tremendous effort.
49:39A solo effort really.
49:42As the rest of the batting line-up.
49:43Much vaunted batting line-up.
49:45Have fallen short here.
49:48He raises his bat.
49:49But look at the disappointment on Graeme Smith's face.
49:53South Africa have done it again.
49:55They've fouled up at home.
49:57It's 2.74 for nine.
49:59Well, is this game over?
50:07Not accordingly.
50:09Dale Steyn and Wayne Barnell.
50:12Just clubbed another boundary.
50:14Six of this over.
50:18Another boundary.
50:19It's not hurting at the moment.
50:23But Dale Steyn is showing a bit of luck here.
50:31So England are through to the semi-final of the Champions Trophy.
50:34And I'm afraid the hosts are going out.
50:39Just 17 short.
50:41Of what they should have been.
50:42In fact, not 17.
50:44Even less.
50:44Because that's gone over throws.
50:46So that'll be five.
50:48Brilliant batting by Shah and Collingwood.
50:51And a blistering knock from Owen Morgan.
50:55Who then had to put the gloves on and keep wicket.
50:58He did a pretty good job of that as well.
51:00So all round, a quite outstanding evening for England.
51:05So 323 for eight.
51:07England and South Africa 301 for nine.
51:10They've got the leading run score in the tournament in Smith.
51:12The leading wicket taker in Panhill.
51:14But I'm afraid it's all over for them.
51:15England winning by 22 runs.
51:21England winning by 22 runs.
51:22England winning by 22 runs.
51:23England winning by 22 runs.
51:24England winning by 22 runs.
