00:03Frustrated residents have hit out at roadworks on the A61 Derby Road in Birdholm
00:07which are causing severe delays for motorists and public transport.
00:12Temporary multi-way traffic signals were put in place on the road at the junction with Storforth Lane on Monday
00:17and this has led to severe delays for drivers and caused disruption to some bus services.
00:22The repair and maintenance work is being carried out by Openreach.
00:26Craig Kennedy from Birdholm said,
00:27Notoriously, Derby Road is a bad road at the best of times.
00:31With Openreach deciding to erect emergency roadworks, there are cars going everywhere
00:35because they're frustrated with the traffic lights which are being switched off.
00:39Bus service Trent Barton warned passengers of heavy delays caused by the roadworks on Tuesday.
00:45An Openreach spokesperson said,
00:48We are carrying out essential safety repairs on Derby Road to replace a damaged box cover.
00:52The work is expected to be completed by Friday 25 July
00:56and we're sorry for any inconvenience caused
00:58and thank residents and drivers for their patience while we complete this important work.
01:03Big hearted participants in a race for life event in Chesterfield have run up more than £11,800 for cancer research.
01:13The 5k challenge attracted 357 runners and walkers to Queen's Park where they did a double lap of the course to achieve the distance.
01:21Philippa Back, Cancer Research UK's divisional event manager said,
01:24It was a great event for the community of Chesterfield coming together to help beat cancer sooner.
01:30The participants were up in full force and even wet weather couldn't dampen their spirits.
01:35More than 10 million people have taken part in race for life events across the UK since 1994,
01:42raising an incredible £970 million towards life-saving cancer research.
