Speaking to reporters on Monday, Speaker Johnson (R-LA) was asked about Rep. Thomas Massie's (R-KY) discharge petition on the Epstein files.
Transcript
00:00Discharge petitions are never a good idea in the House.
00:09It is a tool of the minority party, not majority.
00:13The majority party has stated its position, and it is mine,
00:17and it is the President's, that we want maximum disclosure.
00:20So the rest of it is a political game that Democrats are playing,
00:23and I hope Republicans don't join in there.
00:25This is something unspent.
00:27Some Democrats are saying that they're going to hammer Republicans
00:30for not producing Epstein files in the midterms.
00:32It's nonsensical.
00:33They have nothing else to talk about.
00:35I wish they would talk about policy,
00:37things that would help the American people,
00:39but instead they're playing political games.
00:42We have said our position on that,
00:44and there's no daylight between us and the White House.
00:46We adjourn the House on Wednesday.
00:48See you later. Thanks, guys.
