DJ BUILDS SECRET LUXURY RECORDING STUDIO IN HIS SHED

WITH VID AND PIX

By Ben Rudd

This clever DJ decided that a normal recording studio in his back garden wasn’t enough and decided to completely transform his rather normal-looking shed into a luxury DJ recording booth.

Jon Hemming, 46, is a DJ with a mission to make it to the top of the music scene and, due to noise complaints, he had to get creative in making a HQ for his music goals.

Now, working out of a modified shed, Jon has taken to social media to show his new studio to show his new design.

Jon, from Birmingham, UK, said: “The shed is where I do live stream DJ shows and produce music. From this my brand shed has gone from strength to strength, elevating my DJ career and teaching my goals.

“The video shows my upgraded shed. From the outside it’s a very innocent unassuming structure. But now on the inside it’s a whole different story.

“Hopefully no more complaints and I can continue to grow my brand and my DJ career!”

DJ, Jon, has been working out of a shed for the past 10 years, creating music and igniting his music career.

Thanks to some noise complaints from neighbours, Jon had to revamp his previous recording studio and thought that normal sound-proofing wasn’t good enough.

Instead, he took the studio down and re-built the space as an inconspicuous-looking shed, filled with all of his recording gear.

Now, the shed is a HQ for all of his music-making ventures, equipped with a sofa, lights and a bench to make the studio a home.

He said: “For the last 10 years, I’ve developed my brand (Shedsessionshq.co.uk), I have a successful record label and host events at some of the biggest venues all over the country.

“All this off the back of having my unassuming shed.

“However, a few weeks ago I received some anonymous complaints, regarding noise pollution. To me this was completely unfounded as it’s the first complaint since I built the shed all those years ago.

“So, rather than being a terrible neighbour myself, I decided to make some upgrades.

“Originally it took around 2 weeks with electrics etc… skip forward almost 10 years and I’ve made the upgrades this weekend which took me and my pal 14 hours from 9am to almost 11pm last Sunday! I bet my neighbours loved that.

“So, I was getting booked a lot during the conception of the shed mk2. (Mk1 was at a previous address, a tiny 6x10 flat pack shed with zero sound proofing. Not good for the neighbours at all.)

“I guess the real total would be in the region of £3,000.

“That’s not including DJ gear!”

00:00Welcome to Shed 2.1. Big thank you to Phil Russell for the help and getting the vision complete.
00:11It's almost airtight now, so after a few complaints from a couple of neighbours who have remained anonymous,
00:20we've had two complaints. The first complaints over the last eight years, what I had,
00:25it's never that loud because it is already professionally soundproof but there was a lot
00:31of leakage through the original door and the window. Well the window has now been boarded up
00:36and soundproofed and we've got a second door which is fully insulated as well and it's living three
00:42inches, four inches thick of solid wood. So let's have a little look around. Welcome to the shed.
00:49It's like a prison door. There you go, there's the old door. Can't get rid of the old door because
00:57my dad put it up. Rest in peace dad. It's just a plain shed door. It's seen better days and for
01:04security reasons it's probably best we put a new door up anyway. But all these walls have been put
01:10up and I've been some acoustic insulation has been installed. So it's quite soundproof but a door
01:20in the door definitely helps deader the sound. So the leakage from this door is a non-issue now.
01:26So welcome to the shed. I've had a little sweep about. Hello. Shed Sesh Live. So there you go.
01:36Nice new shed rug. The decks and the window has now gone. Double insulated and boarded up.
01:49So in the ceiling we've got blue boards and two layers of acoustic professional insulation so
01:57that's solid as well. I just want to like fill the gaps in on some of the gaps so I'll probably get
02:05some filler and fill the gaps in. Make it actually airtight so no one can breathe. But there you go.
02:11Great job. Well done. Thank you Phil Russell on this wonderful new wall.
02:18We've got the bench.
02:21We've got the Sesh bench and the Sesh sofa.
02:25This sofa was actually in this shed before the shed was built and the shed was built around the sofa.
02:31Believe it or not. So it's definitely not getting back out of that door.
02:37There you go. Shed 2.1. Thank you Phil Russell for your help.
02:43And it's okay.
02:55And it's for you.
02:58It's for you.
03:00It's for you.
